Renovated stone cottage & barn with large garden, pond & pool.
LAHARANDOTA - The Artists' Cottage, an old stone farmhouse previously owned by American painter Frank Russell, now fully renovated to include slate floors, old beams and stone walls. Set in over an acre of land and surrounded by fields with extensive views over the sea and the Mizen Head. Ideal for those looking for a relaxing holiday or weekend retreat, for walkers/cyclists or families, with its large garden, spring, pond and small outdoor pool (solar heated). Located 4 miles west of local village Kilcrohane, and a scenic half-hour drive from the busy market town of Bantry with its great restaurants and pubs. Stroll down the lane from the cottage directly on to The Sheep's Head Way, one of Ireland's 31 Waymarked Ways (marked trails). The peninsula's natural wild beauty makes its 55 mile trail stand out from others and offers an exciting challenge for all keen walkers. If, however, you're not a 'wild rover', there's always riding, sailing, kayaking, diving, golf...
NOW FEATURED IN ALASTAIR SAWDAY'S IRELAND GUIDE: Review: 'Now how many Irish cottages come with an outdoor pool? Next to the road but shielded by hedges, it even has sea views! You are at the tip of the strikingly beautiful Sheep’s Head peninsula, a paradise for walkers. Laharandota was the house of an artist for many years; it still shows. Everything inside is in the best possible taste and breathes a generous spirit: a wonderful kitchen with big Rayburn stove, art, objets and a fabulous hamper, a claw-foot bath, a glasswalled sun room, nooks, crannies and a rustic fireplace that roars in winter. Next-door’s studio, often rented to the same party, provides comforts on a reduced scale, but the light, the art, the sea views are the same. Hike a part of the Sheep’s Head Way: ‘the best walk in Ireland’ says Country Walking magazine. Head for the lighthouse, look out for choughs and peregrines. Shops and restaurants are a short drive away, lovely Bantry Town and sandy Barleycove beach are not much further. Inspirational'.
Guest Comments: 'It is a fabulous place to stay - we found ourselves spending lots of time just pottering around the cottage because it was so lovely. We will definitely come again and will recommend it to our friends.'
Gerry & Liz, Gloucestershire
'Thank you so much for the weekend. I must say your cottage is spectacular - you have a real eye for interiors and the quality of the renovation and furnishings is stunning. We had 3 days of great weather, the kids were even swimming in the sea. They didn't want to leave and now want to live there!'
Adam & Jane, Hertfordshire
'Thank you for a wonderful 3 days in your beautiful cottage. It was everything we had dreamed of and more. We absolutely fell in love with The Artists' Cottage and the surrounding area.'
Jayne & Gordon, Rockingham, Australia
'We had a fabulous time. The setting was wonderful and the cottage was just gorgeous. Daniel loved his cute little bedroom. He was even brave enough to swim in the pool!'
Pamela & Roger, Glasgow
'Thank you for providing such a welcoming, comfortable taste of rustic charm for we city-dwellers. We all loved everything about the cottage. Of course the swimming pool is the icing on the cake - luckily the weather was glorious so we chilled out and lazed by the pool or braved its invigorating freshness!'
John & Susan, Edinburgh
'Just a note to say how much we enjoyed the cottage. It is in a beautiful and unspoilt location and the views across the bay are something to remember. The quality of the finish and furnishing in The Artists' Cottage are incredible, really beautiful. We had some really lovely times there and we will remember it with great affection.'

A perfect holiday hideaway
Immaculate accommodation in a spectacular setting. Thoroughly recommendable.
Compact but beautiful in a remote idyllic area
The Studio is small but extremely tastefully decorated, with all modern appliances and cosy log burner, which we did need even though it was May. The pool is nice to look at but too cold for us!! Everything was clean and pretty new looking and the groceries on arrival was a welcoming touch. Booking and key collecting was easy and efficient. It was great for two adults but I think two more would be a squeeze and/or keeping an eye on small children with all the lovely knick-knacks around might be a problem too! However we would highly recommend it and the country side around is fantastic for a "get away from it all" experience.
Many thanks for your positive comments and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay.
I just wanted to clarify on the space The Studio has to offer and its suitability for famillies. The Studio is a converted stone hay loft comprising a compact kitchen/lounge area and adjacent sun room with en suite shower room on the ground floor. The sun room has a single day bed with an extra pull out to sleep up to 2 guests. There is a double bedroom with further en suite shower room upstairs.
We usually only recommend The Studio to couples and encourage families to book the Cottage next door as it has nearly twice the space, including 3 bedrooms (double, single and twin). The Studio is perfect for couples but also good for families with one or two children staying for the weekend or couples with a small child on longer stays. During school holidays and the peak summer season, the Studio is usually booked in conjunction with the Cottage by large family groups who appreciate the extra space and beds the Studio provides, the fact that it is self-contained with its own kitchen and lounge, as well as having 2 extra shower rooms.
Regarding the pool, this is located in the garden directly in front of the Studio and is heated by solar panels and does warm up nicely during spells of sunny weather. As we've had an unusually cool and wet spring this year (2012), the pool water has been a bit on the chilly side!
If you have any questions regarding the facilities and layout of the Studio or the Cottage, their suitability for your group/stay etc., please do get in touch. Many thanks.
Pleasure in Paradise: Sheeps Head
We had a fantastic time, relaxing and unwinding on what has to be one of Ireland’s most beautiful locations, The Sheep's Head. The Artists’ Studio where we stayed was beautifully and tastefully furnished, and went beyond the comforts and taste of the typical holiday rental. We just visited in September, and were lucky to have sensational weather every day, sunsets were enjoyed most nights overlooking the Mizen Head. The peninsula itself is easy to get around with lots of walks, hidden beaches and piers, and great pubs, in addition our new favourite restaurant ever close to the cottage 'The Good Things Café' (something no-one should miss, if you’re lucky enough to catch it in season!). We definitely will go back to the cottage; it’s nice to leave the bustle of London and revisit a part of Ireland that is relatively untouched, a simple, relaxing way of life, which we were privileged to enjoy for a week (and who knew that Cork now has a great airport, so it’s simple to catch a flight from London and be there in no time).
Laharandota is located on the southern side of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, about 4 miles south west of the village of Kilcrohane and 15 miles from the bustling market town of Bantry, West Cork. The propoerty is ideally located for touring the West Cork area, for walking, cycling or sailing with it's many walking routes, scenic drives, coves and bays. West Cork attractions include Garinish Island and Glengariff, the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head, as well as the town of Bantry, with its many shops, great restaurants, bars and cinema.
The area is also well known for its raw natural beauty, attracting walkers, artists and anyone with a love for the outdoors to the area. Within a short drive from the property is the village of Kilcrohane, with its quay and coves for bathing, two pubs, shop and local church as well as the Sheep's Head Lighthouse and Way, which passes directly behind and in front of the cottage's gardens.
Other Activities: Cookery classes at nearby restaurant, 'The Good Things Cafe'
Golf: Bantry Bay Golf Club's 18 Hole championship course is located a short drive from the town and is open all year.
