About Hilary or Jack Robertson
We are now semi-retired after demanding careers in special education and senior management in the NHS. We love living in a quiet part of Belsize Park, North London, with its easy access the the West End, theatres, cinemas and art galleries and the wealth of events on in London. We are members of The Tate, The National Gallery, Kew Gardens, The Art Fund and The National Trust and we enjoy South Bank festivals, Open House Weekend, Open Squares Weekend and open gardens days. We walk in London's parks, along the river and the canals and we are avid readers. Jack is the art and musical mentor to Hilary who is the practical DIYer in the family.
Hilary or Jack Robertson purchased this Farmhouse in 1988

We fell in love with the unique ambiance. This we have retained and the house is now extremely well equipped and furnished as a family home. So it has a very personal feel while maintaining the sense of history and place. Large private relaxed garden and salt system pool

Swimmingpool with stunning view.
Totally charming farmhouse.
Very well equipped kitchen.
Don’t let the drive of the last kilometer to the house scare you of: It is a steep climb on an uneven road (for a Dutch driver anyway), but totally worth it!
Thank you for your lovely comments and great advice about the road . Taken slowly it is fine and we recognise for the Dutch it may be a small challenge. The local Italians are totally unfazed by it and a gravel road not on a map deters unwanted visitors which is an advantage.
Home and garden of tranquility
Vasciano is an extraordinary home and garden, reflective of years of care and creation by Hillary and Jack. If it’s a relaxing stay you’re after in a secluded rural retreat offering a house of rustic comfort and character, set in a gem of a garden with pool, Vasciano is perfect. (Some grading of the access road would make it extra perfect!)
Thank you for such a lovely review
Note: we arrange for the access road (strada bianca) to be regularly graded, so the road could be "extra perfect" for others. An advantage of a gravel road is that it deters uninvited "visitors".
Best holiday home I've ever had.
The farmhouse is great, the rooms are well furnished and the kitchen is really well equipped. But the the best of all is the fantastic garden with the awesome view. We enjoyed the stay and fell in love with the house, the garden , the peaceful atmosphere, the delecious food, the
tasty regional wines and there friendly Umbrian people. We surely will come back.
Thank you for such wonderful feedback - we love our guests enjoyment of our house and garden. It gives us such pleasure to share our lovely home with you. We find it a place of deep restoration
Tranquil getaway in the Umbrian countryside
My family of 3 had an incredible week at this beautiful restored farmhouse. The pictures simply do not do it justice. I have traveled extensively and stayed at some beautiful places but the setting of this farmhouse could not have been lovelier. In addition, both the owner and the property manager were great to work with and very responsive, both prior to our stay as well as during our time there. If you just want a place to hang out and relax or looking to take day trips to the many beautiful villages and towns in the surrounding area, you will not be disappointed.
Such a lovely review . Thank you so much . We are delighted you enjoyed Vasciano so much..
Beautiful, peaceful house in the hills
Vasciano is simply a fantastic place to stay. It is a beautiful location on the Tuscany-Umbrian border, down a quiet track. It has fantastic views and a wonderful salt pool. It is peaceful and still - perfect for getting away from the rush of everyday life. The house is also well stocked with furniture, books, games, crockery and glassware; the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. Hilary was excellent at offering advice and there are lots of things to do nearby. We really appreciated her telephone call to check that we had arrived safely. The garden is extremely well kept, and I cannot think of a nicer place to sit and read books for hours on end. Thanks for sharing your lovely house with us - we will certainly be back!
Very pleased that this family enjoyed our house which we love to share . they recognised the care we put onto making this a this house and its location a positive place to stay
Vasciano Nove is one of a group of old stone farmhouses dotted over the hillside above the beautiful agricultural Niccone valley with its scattered small villages and farms. Mercatale 10 mins, away is a small, relaxed non-touristy village with supermarkets, bakery, bars and restaurant. The house is within easy reach of many interesting medieval towns and villages with a wealth of restaurants, art and architecture , markets and festivals . Many local physical activities, beautiful walking and biking in mountainous country . Boat trips on Lake Trasimeno to its islands (one a nature reserve) and beaches . Piero della Francesca frescos, St Francis of Assisi retreats and Etruscan sites will be of special interest to some people. Nature lovers will find interesting but shy wild life and flora. Cooks will be stimulated by local produce and artists will find it hard to decide what to paint frst : maybe the view of the 13C church. Private, salt system pool, in delightful garden
Other Activities: wine tasting, fashion outlets, festival, markets, cookery classes, painiting, sulpher springs
Golf: There is a golf course (which hires clubs) about 1 hr from the house.
