The most unforgettable get away!!!

  • 5 of 5

From arrival to departure, Randy was extremely helpful with setting up rides to and from the house which was super convenient! There was so much exotic furniture present on the property! The view from the deck overlooking Esperanza island from the blue hammock is marvelous during sunrise. All of the house appliances worked and the stove is gas which is a huge plus when it comes to cooking meals quickly! Amenities also include a double decker washer/ dryer, A.C. Units in both rooms as well as, complete cookware, silverware and plate ware sets. The views from just the house are so worth staying over and over again! I can't wait to return again in the coming years!!! There's also cable and wifi!

Peculiar,but has extreme potential.

  • 3 of 5

At first we felt odd due to the property being located where it was. Our very first time in Vieques,PR even as a resident in PR for over 15 yrs I've never been to neither sister islands (culebra) so we were getting use to the surroundings. We contacted a extremely helpful gentleman by the name of Denny who's a local resident and happens to be the newly appointed manager of the property (Renee is the owner also very helpful but not to in touch with his property) . The house: very nice spacious and nice view Looking towards the west ,you'll see the wildlife refuge and certain beaches. Inside as soon as you step in you'll see on your right como de costumbre La Cocina that could use an upgrade, to sum it all up if you aren't worried about modernizing surroundings and just a spacious place to kick it then this is for you. But be aware of the dust and Sahara dust which can combine and get you ill. There also termites on the exterior of the house which is normal in PR. There's more plus than minus because of the amenities you receive and how the manager came quickly to resolve some issues that the cleaning staff didn't attend to. Denny also gave us some cool ideas to do like places to eat and site see. He highly recommend and I second that from my personal experience a beach called "la chiva" this beach is awesome, a must do but overall every beach in Vieques is breathtaking. I would recommend the house ,it just needs better maintenance and I'm sure the new manager will take care of these issue from here on then.

roach infestation hell

  • 1 of 5

I am so sad this was awful. As you see the pictures are pretty. We looked forward to this so much. but the infestation of roaches and wasps is no joke. every cabinet, every size, in side outside. Im not squeamish, i was disgusted. I cried. The only hotel in town was booked and cost 500$ per nite. we needed 2 rooms. so we had to stay. I bought bottles of and bottles of bug spray, and fumigated the house, placing towels under doors to block them from crawling in. The toilets both stopped working. the paint on the ceiling is peeling. the walls are a mess of patches, bad red paint and dead roach juice. no propane in bbq, dust everywhere, fake flower decor inside full of dust and spiders, especially near the mildew ridden fridge, with baby roaches .. all kitchen areas had baby roaches and creature poop. See that red veranda, dont go near it its wobbly and falling apart. rebar sticking up around yard. I thought the indonesian decor would be cool, but it was just creepy. All sheets smell smokey, because the first thing everyone does is light mosquito coils in the house.CREEPY place, and no, I didn't call the owner to complain while I was there. I dont know who he was going to send. Vieques is very poor, I dont need anyone knowing the tourists are in. My kids googled him and found he has done this before, and has a very very shady past. thats why the property name changes after every client. He has a Gross car with open windows parked outside, dont rent it. wasps everywhere. dont trust the pictures. too bad, the location was terrific. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!! fat chance huh. a Roach climbed on my son!!! in the kitchen. we killed some and left them in the kitchen in a pile in the corner. YEUCH!!! Vieques is cool and the beaches are amazing, but stay in a hotel and come by plane, and rent jeeps, . the town is so poor no house can be trusted to be vrbo standards. the ferry from fajardo is another weird nightmare with a 3 hr, 6am wait in a cage. No real markets on island. We brought frozen stakes from san Juan, oops, no Propane! bring ZIP lock bags to keep roaches off you tooth brush and food. How did I survive, I drank a lot of rum before going to bed . dont come to this roach hotel.

Our Home away from Home,,,

  • 5 of 5

We have been going to Vieques for 4 years in a row, and have stayed at 4 different rentals, but is, hands down, the best place.

Not only is this property very clean, comfotable and well equipped, but it is also very large. We are only two, but could have easily had 4 more people with us and not felt crowded at all.

The kitchen is a joy, I love to cook and felt totally at home working in this kitchen.

Our dog Harley loved having such a wide open front yard to roam!

And the views were spectacular.

We already have it reserved for a month in 2017 and hope to go every year from now on.

The owners were very quick to respond to questions and offered lots of tips and guidance for living in Vieques, both in advance of our stay, during our stay and after our departure. Can't wait to get back.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (from May 2017)

  • 3 of 5

We are two early retired couples who stayed at this home for one week. We have traveled the world for nearly thirty years in budget hotels to luxury resorts to private homes. We are easy going, know that some trips and places are "an adventure." Vieques Island is wonderful, we loved it, it's an island lover's paradise, small with friendly locals, spectacular beaches & snorkeling & laid back vibe. This place, however, was good, bad and ugly - thus the title.

The Good

Randy was very easy to communicate with, responding quickly though stateside during our stay.

House location is great: quiet neighborhood, no loud neighbors or barking dogs or crowing roosters or traffic (house is at the end of a road).

View from the large outdoor deck is spectacular, we ate breakfast & grilled dinner there most days. Watching the sunsets w/an adult beverage, then the fireflies was perfectly relaxing.

The house has all the amenities noted, kitchen is well equipped, the grill was a nice bonus. Plenty of space, the house is very nicely laid out & open. Indoor decor is very unique with some cool art pieces (loved the seahorse). We found the wicker furniture very uncomfortable, but the beds were comfortable.

The Bad

The house was not clean when we arrived, we spent two hours sweeping, mopping, washing sheets, bath towels and a couple bed pillows (deeply stained), cleaning bathrooms and kitchen before we headed out to the beach for a bit of de-stressing. Very disappointed in the condition upon our arrival. We informed Randy and he said he would have had the house cleaner return to clean it properly, but we told him we did not trust the house cleaner to do a better job so cleaned it ourselves.

The Ugly

The house is in desperate need of a very, very deep cleaning & updating in general. Besides the condition upon our arrival, the house in general is in disarray. Furniture, windows, art work etc. are dusty/dirty and appear not to have been cleaned in many many months. Every closet and armoire is full of old blankest/sheets/etc. Bugs in most of them and all drawers. Kitchen items are old/chipped. Pile of broken chairs in kitchen corner w/sign not to use. Chipped paint on walls throughout. Outdoor furniture falling apart/some unusable.

Overall

House location/view/setup are wonderful. Owner easy to work with but we wonder when he last saw it or does he care. House condition is dirty/falling apart. Would we rent this place again? NO. Would we return to Vieques? YES! YES! YES!
