After the hustle and bustle of city life in Houston we fulfilled a dream to move to the peaceful Rocky Mountains of New Mexico and build a log home on property purchased some years before. We had a good 10 years at this property as our home. In 2002 we became missionaries to Africa and have lived there the better part of the last 10 years. See Help4HopeAfrika.org When we are home and house is rented we may be found in the bunk room apartment downstairs. Otherwise we are away traveling and speaking to raise support for our Africa work.
Judi purchased this lodge in 1991
We built this house in a secluded area in the Lincoln National Forest as a haven for us and for our friends and family.
Every aspect of Livin Hi is a story. You will see evidence of travels around the world. If you are a hunter or just enjoy being in a 'hunting lodge' you will enjoy Livin Hi! There's even a Victorian room and bath to make the ladies happy! The view from the 35 foot long covered upper and lower decks fill you with awe of God's creation. Bask in the sun on the large balcony off the master bedroom. You will not be disappointed and will never be able to take it all in! A jewel in the rough!
Judy, We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our time in your home! It was so comfortable and interesting. my children spent a lot of time looking up animals in books and internet to identify each one there. It was the perfect place for us. We spent most of our time there, went into Cloudcroft for dinner one night. We saw about 20 turkeys in the yard most days and after putting out some corn, came home to between 35 and 40 elk in the yard. One day we went to the national observatory and drove over to Bluff
Springs and counted more than 100 elk on that drive. We had a fun , relaxing time to remember while our son is in Afghanistan. It was very hard to leave him but we sure enjoyed our visit with him and so did he, and your beautiful place helped make that possible.
Thanks so much for sharing your home!
I thought the property was very unique, cozy and the location although a bit too far was very peaceful. The scenery was breathe taking. It was a Christmas that we will never forget. We made wonderful memories and I definitely would recommend this property, it has everything you need and more.
This home is exactly as described, fully stocked kitchen, beautiful décor and the owners were so nice and pleasant to work with. Wood fired stove for heat ( pre-stocked, pre-cut wood!) washer/dryer, dish washer, all the modern amenities! The home is filled with trophy animals and some amazing items from Africa. We especially liked looking at the stars from the skylights above the master bed upstairs!
We ride ATV's and direct access to the Lincoln National Forest was our primary reason for staying here. Access was great...
The road coming into the property is unpaved for a few miles ( from either direction) so be aware if you're traveling during inclement weather.
We LOVED the remoteness and were impressed with the large herd of elk that showed up in the yard one morning. If you stay here, bring everything you need with you as the closest restaurant, shopping ( Cloudcroft - approx. 10 miles), grocery stores (Alamogordo 30 miles) are a drive to get to.
If you like the sound of the wind in the trees, bugling elk and peace and quiet, you'll LOVE this place.
Tucked into the high alpine meadows, Livin Hi is an experience destination. If you want city life an amenities - don't stay here. If you want solitude & quiet and wildlife - this is a great place for you. We wanted the latter. So, this place was perfect!
Greatly enjoyed our stay at livin high. If you like to be away from it all this is the place. The view off the balcany is fantastic. We saw lots of wildlife. Judi was very responsive even though she was in Africa! The house is like a museum. Our teenage boys enjoyed seeing all the big game animals. The road leading to the place is a gravel road for a few miles and the location is about 15 min from Cloudcroft. Overall a good experience.
This vacation home was perfect for our family! The setting was breathtaking, the home itself was very well equipped for cooking, sleeping arrangements and having fun! Board games, books, dvd's...the property owners have put a lot of thought and time into making sure their guests have any and everything!
We can't wait for a return trip and stay at the Livin Hi lodge!
Livin Hi Lodge is a beautiful home located in a beautiful location. The home was very clean, and well maintained. We contacted Judi a couple of times with questions by phone/email and she responded quickly even though she was in Africa. The ability to hike in the national forest right behind the house was amazing. The whole setting is peaceful and calm. At night, we listened to the male elks gathering their harem...so cool! Every amenity needed is provided by the homeowners. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
A Perfect place to get away! Rest, Hike, Drive watch the Humming Birds! White Sands Desert & Carlsbad Caverns as a day trip. Historical Lincoln, NM & Old Mesilla also a good day trip. Charming Village of Cloudcroft is 20 minutes away with quaint shops and good food. A meal at the famous 'Lodge' is a must! This country is abundant with Rocky Mountain Elk and Merriam turkey and if you look hard you may also see deer, bobcat, black bear and cougar. No cell phone coverage here either!
