Owners Martin and Karen owned their first ranch in Templeton, CA. until 2001 when they purchased the world-renowned 'Hurdledale' from famous horse trainers Brian and Lisa Sabo. Once used as a pre-Olympic training site for 3-Day Eventing, they quickly fell in love with the property and decided to turn it into a human and horse retreat for all to share!
Karen purchased this barn in 2000
Because...you have to see it to believe it! The ranch is centrally located, and I went to college in San Luis Obispo and fell in love with the area and always wanted to return.
Karen was a great host. Ready for us on arrival, meeting us as we pulled up to the house. The ranch is beautiful! The view is wonderful, the covered porch is a great place to hang out and to have a lovely meal, including with a spinning serving circle in the center of the nicely proportioned round table. The wildlife and nighttime skies are all and more that we hoped for. So many birds - doves, woodpeckers, hawks, and more - horses, donkeys, mini ponies, goat, and squirrels , ground hogs etc.... Deer in the surrounding areas. Amazing nature! The bedrooms are nice, the wifi and cable tv worked well, and the bathroom and kitchen are clean and did the trick. We made two or three gourmet meals. The house is a portion of a partially repurposed stable. It was really cool to park our motorcycles in the stable ! The location is great in the west side of Paso Robles, adjacent to great vineyards, and an amazing ride east of the most beautiful Adeleida area. It's also an easy drive to Paso Robles town center, and near to a great breakfast diner at the Truck stop (seriously) that is one stop south on the 101. It's a lovely, rustic, special place, with amazing nature, location and world-class beauty all around you. Paul
Can't say enough about the ranch. If you're looking for a place to stay with a wonderful view and gracious hosts, this is your spot.
Where do I begin?? My four children and I were just looking for a place to get away to reconnect as a family away from the hustle and bustle of LA life. We hit the jackpot when we found Campana Creek Ranch on VRBO! Before we even left for our vacation, Karen was so kind and was checking in with us to make sure we were all set with directions and asking if there was anything else we needed. Upon our arrival, we were met by Uriah and Kelly who throughout our entire stay made us feel so welcome and were always on hand to answer our annoying tourist questions. We met Marty soon after and he was such a wonderful and gracious host throughout our stay. We can't thank him enough for his hospitality. We brought along our two horses and two dogs who were literally having as much fun as we were. If horses and dogs could smile, they were grinning ear to ear!! They were so enjoying playing with the friendly ranch dogs and the extra space to run around. We visited the Hearst castle and a few nice winery's but for the most part just stayed on the ranch to enjoy its beauty. Our walks together on the property were our favorite part. We rented the whole cottage, upstairs and downstairs along with a stall and the accommodations were awesome! The horses had fresh shavings and water on our arrival. We had everything we needed. We were there over Christmas and were so impressed how they decorated the cottage and barn with beautiful Christmas lights. The kids were blown away when they received a rice crispy treat xmas tree "from the ranch" and devoured it in minutes. The hospitality was top notch!! If you want to rejuvenate your family and soul, this is the place to go! We can't wait to go back! Thank you Karen, Marty, Uriah and Kelly for your amazing hospitality!!

Loved everything about this place! Gorgeous property, animal friendly! We will definately be returning.
My family met here for the first time - half from the Bay area and us from San Diego - from 79 yrs old to 18 yrs old and EVERYONE had a great time. We are EXTREME animal lovers and not only were our dogs welcomed, it was sooo enjoyable to interact with your dogs - and the horses! Marty and Urija took Baily and Sleepy out to the ring out front for an amazing show of running, jumping, kicking and rolling!
Kelly and Urija couldn't be more friendly and hospitable - especially with our crew of 5 dogs - 1 pug, 2 Frenchies, a Westy and a Pit/lab mix that looks like a mini me of your Lucy!
We stayed in the entire barn and it was so beautiful, comfortable, clean and lots of extra touches that you can not take away while staying at a hotel. This concept is brilliant - and absolutely priceless!
Karen - from the moment I was in touch with you, you were extremely personable, quick with follow-up and response and, although I didn't get to meet you - I already love you for the AMAZING work you do for animals. I've cried so many times reading your posts.
Marty - I cannot thank you enough for your hospitality, your willingness to accommodate every need and, more importantly, going above and beyond to accommodate each of us - share your stories, share the history, and you gave the boys an experience they will never forget.
We loved it so much, we are thinking of moving to the area!!!!
Thank you sooo much for everything -we will be back soon!!!
Our family vacationed at this amazing ranch last weekend celebrating my fathers 75th birthday. It is absolutely stunning, with its beautiful views, wildlife and peace and quiet. We stayed in the main barn, including the newly added top floor loft and the cottage barn, both are beautifully decorated and well equipped! The cottage and main barn are a few minutes walk away from each other which gives you a chance to see and explore the lovely property. The dogs greeted us and Sascha accompanied us to our quarters making sure we were safe and sound, she even walked my sister in law back to the cottage from the main barn. The horses are beautiful and friendly, and the ponies were very excited for visitors and snacks! We enjoyed breakfasts and late night stargazing from the the large but cozy front porch, The wine country and wine tasting are my absolute favorite. Karen the owner was easily available by phone and went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. Kelly and Uriah were absolutely the most amazing hosts! We enjoyed meeting them and sharing hunting and riding stories. My daughter is a sophomore at Cal Poly so we hope to be back soon and spend more then a couple of days at this beautiful, peaceful ranch.
Had the opportunity to stay at the ranch just last weekend. Was absolutely enamored with the location and the landscape surrounding this lovely getaway. Located in the heart of multiple wineries, much of our time was spent relaxing at the ranch. The dogs are absolute characters and, as a dog person, it was a treat to meet and interact with them. We also got a chance to visit around the ranch; such beautiful horses. It was a pleasure to be here with such great company and great wine. Far better than the monotony of a hotel, we will definitely be staying here again.
