We are a 15 minute drive off Interstate 515 in North Georgia, a 30 minute drive from Amicalola Falls State park, a 25 minute drive from Blue Ridge, a 15-20 minute drive from several apple orchards, 10 minute drive from the fabulous Ellijay Apple Festival, and no distance at all from one of the most beautiful sections of Mountaintown Creek. It's a secluded cabin on a private drive in a REFRESHING environment that has something elegant and enjoyable for all styles and preferences: trout FISHING and TUBING in your FRONT YARD, a hot tub, a clean, mountain creek to spash in, gourmet kitchen, cozy den for the enjoyment of TV, a wood burning FIREPLACE, and a welcoming decor.
The cabin is also near other exciting, outdoor activity sites (golf course, horse back riding, hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting).
Our creek front cabin is spacious and will comfortably accommodate 2-4 adult friends, a family of 4, or 2 couples traveling together. It's of course, ideal for a romantic getaway for two.
River Rest is nestled in a secluded area on the Mountaintown Creek: only four other cabins nearby. One cabin is next door to River Rest, the others are not visible from our property. There are no properties within sight across the creek from us, just beautiful undeveloped wooded land. All paved roads, up until the last mile before the cabin. Then, the road turns to gravel, but it is accessible for all types of vehicles. The air seems to feel just a little bit lighter and cooler, and the sleep is always much deeper and peaceful here. It's a short 15-minute drive from the Ellijay square and local grocery, shopping, and dining options.
The creek by the cabin is a TROUT fisher's local pilgrimage site and flows like a gentle river: about 60 feet wide, 1 to 4 feet deep, and perfect for fly fishing, wading, and floating. Local ANGLERS call Mountain town Creek 'one the most picturesque and beautiful trout streams in North Georgia and is quietly becoming one of the best trophy trout streams in the state.'
Enjoy the beauty of a unique, Native American fishtrap in the Mountaintown creek on cabin property. In the morning, wake to a dip in the hot tub or creek, followed by a breakfast on the porch with brewed coffee, pancakes, syrup, and local apples. At night, wrap yourself in a cotton throw on the screened porch and listen to the burbling water. Tubes for floating are provided in season.
This beautiful creek front cabin features unique, traditional décor and amenities. The first floor has 1 bedroom with a queen-sized pencil post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with shower and tub, den, kitchen, dining area with breakfast table, and screened porch and deck.
The second floor has 1 bedroom with 1 queen-sized, post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with a shower, loft with sleeper sofa, and large walk-in closet. All one-of-a-kind furnishings are selected to make you feel at home.
The screened porch has charming, white wicker furniture including a dining table that seats 4, ceiling fans, and rocking chairs. You'll want to sit and stay as long as possible to play some checkers, read a book, or dine with friends and family. The deck has a picnic table for four, and is a great spot for morning coffee.
The HOT TUB is an easy few steps from the door. It is private, faces an undeveloped creekfront lot, seats 5 people, and is accessible from the deck with a great view of the creek.
Last, and our favorite, the cabin has a small and growing 'Lending LIBRARY.' Need a book to read while you are here? Can't finish it during your stay? Fine. Keep it and return it upon your next stay. Leave a book for our other guests if you bring one of your own.
Your friends and family will thank you for selecting a special place for building memories, having fun, and relaxing. River Rest offers a home away from home. You need the rest, and you're always at home at River Rest.

Our family lives a short distance from Ellijay. We take pride in offering River Rest to guests, and make use of the cabin for personal use when our schedules permit.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005
My family purchased this property a few years ago, after falling in love with the beauty of Mountaintown creek that flows by us as well as the quiet, dead-end lane where the cabin is located. In addition, we like the Ellijay area, because it represents a sharp departure from the cookie-cutter, over crowded, mountain vacation destinations we have seen elsewhere. Ellijay and the surrounding area offers our family ample options with regard to outdoor activities as well as the chance to be together away from the hustle and bustle of life.
This cabin reflects the touch of an interior decorator, and our personal preferences with regard to furnishings. We think that the decor as well as the cabin location offer a unique destination for guests.
My cousin and I have tremendously enjoyed your cabin. Everything was wonderful! We especially liked the porch and sound of the river -- so relaxing a person can do a lot of meditating in this atmosphere. Thank you for sharing. We'll want to come back.
This is a perfect place for rest, relaxation, and fun. The cabin is located in a very secluded and quiet area of the Coosawatee River Resort. Be ready for a nice drive down to the cabin from the main road. On the way to the cabin we saw deer everywhere. It was fun to look for them each day of our trip. The cabin is beautifully decorated with a mix of new and antique furniture. All were the rooms were cozy and comfortable. The owners had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. I loved the modern kitchen. This made cooking a breeze.
My husband and I sat out on the screened porch and listened to the serene river in the evenings - so peaceful. One of the afternoons I played down in the river which was very relaxing. My only wish would have been to have had easier access to the water. The bank was a little overgrown and the steps down made me a little nervous. The neighbors have a nice area cleared out in front which looked very inviting.
Ellijay and Blue Ridge were towns we visited several times during our stay. Everyone was friendly and the food at the restaurants was delicious. We also rented a boat for the day at Carter's Lake. A must go is to Mercier's Orchard for the best peaches and fried hand pies. Yum!
Thank you, Sarah, for making this cabin feel like home. My husband and I truly cherished the days we were there celebrating my early retirement. We would definitely rent this cabin again for a couple's getaway.
We reserved this cabin for a weekend getaway from stress....and it lived up to exactly that. We got off the main highway for several miles...turned onto a side street that led to a gate that a real attendant. Then we drove at least two miles+ back into the woods on pavement then gravel roads. The seclusion factor is great. The minute we opened our car door we could hear the river rushing by not far from the driveway! Unfortunately...it was pitch dark when we arrived and we would have to wait and see our surroundings till morning. (Recommend arriving during daylight hours on your first drive into the cabin just because it makes the drive a little easier). But we still had no problem, the directions provided are spot on. We entered a gorgeous cabin, beautifully furnished and clean. The kitchen has everything you need to eat-in with modern appliances. Antiques everywhere. We loved the atmosphere. We woke the first morning to birds chirping and could hear the river. The river is only about 30 yards from the cabin and you can view everything from your balcony thru the trees. No pictures can do justice to seeing this view in person. Lots to do in Jasper and Ellijay. But resting at the cabin was best. You will love your stay here. The owner is very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed to know for our stay. If I had to say anything negative...it would be that the rates were more than advertised on line. We paid $193 a night for Friday and Saturday. That might be a website issue.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this cabin right on the water. Very close to town for necessities but far enough away for that secluded, getaway feel. Beautiful cabin with a lot of antique looks! Loved it!! The only thing that I recommend is that your first encounter be during daylight hours so you can maneuver your way in properly. She had great instructions, but we arrived at night and it was a little difficult to get in the first time, only because I was not familiar with the surroundings. But very private, we loved it!!
We had a very nice time we took the opportunity to visit some of the local wineries but other than that we just sat around read books and soak in the hot tub we do plan on returning again possibly this fall.
Girl's Weekend was everything we had hoped for in the North Georgia Mountains.
River Rest was relaxing and easy to get to. I have stayed in many cabins over the
years and I have to say, River Rest has the BEST beds! My morning coffee, never tasted so good, sitting on the screened porch, listening to the river rapids and especially eating Apple Donuts from Mercier Apple Orchids in Blue Ridge.
We drove to the Apple Festival within 15 minutes from the cabin. We saw lots of families of deer on the roads driving out of the Resort to Ellijay & Blue Ridge.
Sarah, the Owner, was wonderful and understanding in so many ways! If you have any question or concern, she'll take care of it for you.
Located an easy 10 minute drive from the annual Apple Festival, 15 minute drive from Historic Ellijay, and other attractions near and in Ellijay. 25 minute drive from Amicalola Falls State Park, 25 minute drive from several white water rafting or equestrian riding facilities.
