Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 full Bathrooms, views and sounds of stream, (Sleeps 1-4)

River Rest is THE perfect place to stay for a quiet, luxury destination that is nestled beside a pristine, flowing trout stream.

Thanksgiving week, 4+ night reservations only.

We are available for 2-4 adults (25+) only. (4 person maximum). We are not suitable for families with children or people who have difficulties with steps (see photos that show steps leading to the front door). No pets.

We feature distinctive traditional and antique furnishings, a hot tub, on-site fishing in a trophy trout stream, situated on a quiet, secluded lane in Coosawattee River Resort. (2 night minimum)

Push aside the laptop (although we have WiFi if you can't), cell, fax machine, and pager. Spend time strolling up and down the lane by the house, fishing in the private waters of a trophy trout stream, unwinding in the hot tub, gazing at a star-studded clear night, and bathing in the noises that surround this north Georgia retreat: tree frogs at night, the rush of the burbling creek 24/7 from the comfort of the screened porch. You deserve the rest-and-relaxation. We offer the ideal location that is secluded, yet not isolated from the amenities you need.

We are a 15 minute drive off Interstate 515 in North Georgia, a 30 minute drive from Amicalola Falls State park, a 25 minute drive from Blue Ridge, a 15-20 minute drive from several apple orchards, 10 minute drive from the fabulous Ellijay Apple Festival, and no distance at all from one of the most beautiful sections of Mountaintown Creek. It's a secluded cabin on a private drive in a REFRESHING environment that has something elegant and enjoyable for all styles and preferences: trout FISHING and TUBING in your FRONT YARD, a hot tub, a clean, mountain creek to splash in, gourmet kitchen, cozy den for the enjoyment of TV, a wood burning FIREPLACE, and a welcoming decor.

The cabin is also near other exciting, outdoor activity sites (golf course, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting).

Our creek front cabin is spacious and will comfortably accommodate 2-4 adult friends, a family of 4, or 2 couples traveling together. It's of course, ideal for a romantic getaway for two.

River Rest is nestled in a secluded area on the Mountaintown Creek: only four other cabins nearby. One cabin is next door to River Rest, the others are not visible from our property. There are no properties within sight across the creek from us, just beautiful undeveloped wooded land. All paved roads, up until the last mile before the cabin. Then, the road turns to gravel, but it is accessible for all types of vehicles. The air seems to feel just a little bit lighter and cooler, and the sleep is always much deeper and peaceful here. It's a short 15-minute drive from the Ellijay square and local grocery, shopping, and dining options.

The creek by the cabin is a TROUT fisher's local pilgrimage site and flows like a gentle river: about 60 feet wide, 1 to 4 feet deep, and perfect for fly fishing, wading, and floating. Local ANGLERS call Mountain town Creek 'one the most picturesque and beautiful trout streams in North Georgia and is quietly becoming one of the best trophy trout streams in the state.'

Enjoy the beauty of a unique, Native American fish-trap in the Mountaintown creek on cabin property. In the morning, wake to a dip in the hot tub or creek, followed by a breakfast on the porch with brewed coffee, pancakes, syrup, and local apples. At night, wrap yourself in a cotton throw on the screened porch and listen to the burbling water. Tubes for floating are provided in season.

This beautiful creek front cabin features unique, traditional décor and amenities. The first floor has 1 bedroom with a queen-sized pencil post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with shower and tub, den, kitchen, dining area with breakfast table, and screened porch and deck.

The second floor has 1 bedroom with 1 queen-sized, post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with a shower, loft with sleeper sofa, and large walk-in closet. All one-of-a-kind furnishings are selected to make you feel at home.

The screened porch has charming, white wicker furniture including a dining table that seats 4, ceiling fans, and rocking chairs. You'll want to sit and stay as long as possible to play some checkers, read a book, or dine with friends and family. The deck has a picnic table for four, and is a great spot for morning coffee.

The HOT TUB is an easy few steps from the door. It is private, faces an undeveloped creekfront lot, seats 5 people, and is accessible from the deck with a great view of the creek.

Last, and our favorite, the cabin has a small and growing 'Lending LIBRARY.' Need a book to read while you are here? Can't finish it during your stay? Fine. Keep it and return it upon your next stay. Leave a book for our other guests if you bring one of your own.

Your friends and family will thank you for selecting a special place for building memories, having fun, and relaxing. River Rest offers a home away from home. You need the rest, and you're always at home at River Rest.

About The Owner

Our family lives a short distance from Ellijay. We take pride in offering River Rest to guests, and make use of the cabin for personal use when our schedules permit.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose North Georgia Mountains

My family purchased this property a few years ago, after falling in love with the beauty of Mountaintown creek that flows by us as well as the quiet, dead-end lane where the cabin is located. In addition, we like the Ellijay area, because it represents a sharp departure from the cookie-cutter, over crowded, mountain vacation destinations we have seen elsewhere. Ellijay and the surrounding area offers our family ample options with regard to outdoor activities as well as the chance to be together away from the hustle and bustle of life.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin reflects the touch of an interior decorator, and our personal preferences with regard to furnishings. We think that the decor as well as the cabin location offer a unique destination for guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My cousin and I have tremendously enjoyed your cabin. Everything was wonderful! We especially liked the porch and sound of the river -- so relaxing a person can do a lot of meditating in this atmosphere. Thank you for sharing. We'll want to come back.

The cabin was beautiful and fully equipped to provide a true home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

Shortly after we started up the road from the gate to the cabin we started seeing deer. They were all along the road and in many yards. We even saw several turkeys. When we arrived at the cabin we found ourselves in awe. With the cabin resting on the side of a large hill overlooking the small river and surrounded with beautiful trees and native plants, we really felt like we were close to heaven. We wanted a time of peaceful seclusion and we found it. The cabin had a rustic feel yet a sense of elegance. The furnishings and decor are beautiful and everything we needed for our stay was available. We tried a few of the local restaurants, but cooked most of our meals in the fully equipped kitchen or on the gas grill. We fished the river and caught a few small ones. It was relaxing wading through the gentle stream. Each morning my wife and I would eat our breakfast and read our bibles on the porch as we listened to the flow of the stream. This was a such a wonderful way to start each day.

There are several other cabins in the area and one was occupied for a few days during our stay. We still were able to enjoy our seclusion, something that was very important to us. We really felt like this was our mountain and river.

We certainly recommend renting this cabin if you are looking for a well maintained, comfortable, quiet place to spend some time alone with your loved ones.

Fantastic in every way

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Rest, and wish that we could have stayed longer. Every aspect of our reservation--booking experience, communications with the owner, cabin decor, cleanliness, cabin supplies, surrounding area--was excellent. And the wi-fi connection is terrific!!! The directions were clear and precise, the home beautiful inside and out, and the area around the home relaxing. The hot tub is awesome and situated so you can enjoy a view of the stars at night all the while with ample privacy. You will not beat this for a honeymoon, anniversary, any occasion getaway place. To us, significantly better vacation experience compared with an over priced "luxury" hotel room.

Clean, updated, quiet, perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful time! Just far enough off the beaten path but still close enough to go in to town for shopping and dinner-if you can pull yourself away from this magnificent porch. I will be back!!

River Rest, perfect name for this wonderful cabin.

  • 4 of 5

River Rest is a relaxing oasis in a beautiful setting. This cabin provided exactly what we needed. My wife and I were looking to get away a few days before summer ended. This cabin offered a peaceful stress free setting on the beautiful Cossawattee River. The cabin sits back on a private road just steps from the river. The cabin itself is beautifully decorated with a wonderful hot tub overlooking the river. It is easy access to the town of Ellijay, just minutes away. We walked the Amicalola Falls, a must see. The town of Ellijay offers some nice resturants. Our favorite was the Cajun Depot. If your looking to get away for a romantic week or weekend, this is the place for you.
