SEE OUR OTHER JAMES RIVER FRONT COTTAGES AT VRBO Listing #352993 and VRBO Listing #777232. Both are wonderful beachfront cottages on the historic James River in the Jamestown/Williamsburg area.

The Piankatank River guest cottage is in a beautiful, romantic and private setting. Enjoy this elegant and secluded guest cottage on a lovely 2 acre property located on a private point fewer than 75 feet from the pristine Piankatank River. Delightful as a romantic getaway for two as you watch beautiful sunrises over the water and sip a glass of wine on the pier while the sun sets. Open the windows on cool nights and let the gentle sound of waves lull you to sleep. Enjoy leisurely mornings with coffee and breakfast on your private screened porch overlooking the river or enjoy the sunlight on your open deck. Have fun exploring the river and creeks in owner provided kayaks and enjoy the pool in Virginia's warm spring, summer, and fall weather.

The guest cottage is on our property with a main house, garage and workshop, pool, and pier. The cottage has hardwood floors, a kitchenette, and a bath on the main floor. Bed and bath linens, terry robes, beach towels, and bath and shampoo essentials, paper products, and basic cooking spices are provided.

The kitchen area has a mini fridge, microwave, sink, portable cooktop burner, toaster, electric panini maker, electric griddle, and Kurig coffee maker plus dinnerware and utensils -- everything needed for morning breakfasts and easy lunches. A gas grill on your deck is available for dinners. The screened porch has a dining table and four chairs. Great restaurants are close by if cooking is not on your vacation menu.

This delightful cottage and its lovely surroundings are a perfect base for touring Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne, Yorktown, Petersburg, Richmond and multiple surrounding historic and entertainment sites. So............enjoy the best of both worlds, tranquil evenings on the river listening to the night sounds and amazing mornings by the river combined with wonderful daytime sightseeing in the perfect alternative to a hotel room.

The Nantucket style guest cottage on the property grounds has cedar shake siding and roof, walls of windows, and french doors opening onto a 5' x 15' screened porch and 20' open deck. Views out two sides of the cottage provide incredible pictures of the river, the osprey nest, wildlife, and an occasional pleasure boat traveling up and down the river. The guest cottage has soaring ceilings, two walls of widows, a loft, a main floor four poster queen bed, flat screen TV and DVD, screened porch, and an open deck all overlooking the river and wildlife. Perfectly romantic for two with one bath and kitchenette.

Enjoy fishing off the pier (right outside your door), swimming in the river or pool (during warm weather), kayaking the river and creeks in owner provided kayaks, and use the cottage as a wonderful location for easy day trips to endless historical and entertainment sites throughout Tidewater Virginia.

Bring your boat for sightseeing and fishing on the river and bay. A boat ramp is available just three miles from the cottage and your boat can be docked at our pier. Or sail your sailboat up the river from the Chesapeake Bay. The 11' deep water at the end of the pier at low tide will accommodate large sail and power boats.

The cottage is an easy and picturesque drive (about an hour or less) to Williamsburg, Jamestown, plantations, wineries, and churches. Yorktown, site of the end of the revolutionary War is about a 35 minute drive. Civil War sites, museums and battlefields in Petersburg and Richmond are about 1 1/2 hour drive from the cottage. About Deena Allen

I was born in Petesburg, VA and lived in Minnesota for 30 years. I have three cottages available for rent -- two near Williamsburg, VA on the James River and the guest cottage on the Piankatank River. I split my time between Minnesota and Virginia.

Deena Allen purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Deena Allen chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

Lovely area with water all around. The Piankatank is one of the cleanest rivers in Virginia. Close to Deltaville, sailing capitol of VA, about an hour from Williamsburg and Jamestown, an hour from Richmond International Airport, and 2 1/2 hours from Washington, DC. Close to Kilmarnock, White Stone and Irvington -- Virgiia's famous Northern Neck. An easy drive to Petersburg and Richmond for Civil War buffs with sites not to be missed. For wine lovers, there are wineries all around featuring tours and tastings.

What makes this cottage unique

In Whitestone, don't miss dinner at The Sandpiper Restaurant and wonderful wine and take-out foods at The River Market. Locales Marina on the Rappahannock River is where you can find Merior - with outstanding seafood of all types. The owners also own The Rappahannock River Oyster Company.

In Williamsburg, try the Fat Canery Restaurant for an upscale meal, the Cheese and Wine Shop on Duke of Gloucster St. for great sandwiches to go or to eat on the patio, and our favorite for dinner, Berrets Seafood and Tap House Grill. Enjoy great breakfasts at the Five Forks Cafe near Jamestown Road and lunch at The Old Chckahominy House Restaurant on Jamestown Road with antique and gift shop adjoining.

My best friend and I spent a long weekend at the Piankatank cottage and couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting. The pictures do not do it justice. We only had three days and had made plans to explore but were so in love with the setting that, with the exception of a side trip to a beautiful winery and a movie under the stars in Urbanna, we decided to just stay and relax. The view was amazing and due to the cooler weather we were able to open the doors and windows to the porch so we could hear the river sounds and smell the marsh. We had the entire place to ourselves. There are so many things to see and do and nothing is very far away at all (it only looks like it on a a map). The Deltaville Market has just about everything you need and it's practically around the corner. J&W Seafood has wonderful fish and crabmeat. The kitchenette is small but we found it easy to prepare meals in. Everything is high end and well-cared for. The cottage was very clean. I could go on and on. We can't wait to go back and we definitely hope we can stay longer!

Wonderful Seclusion!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in this romantic cottage after exploring the hustle & bustle of Washington, D.C. We totally enjoyed the relaxing setting. We spent most of our time relaxing on the beach or at the pool. I fished and crabbed off the dock. We kayaked and walked most mornings. We took short excursions to Deltaville for supplies, enjoyed oysters at Merroir's, and learned some more history at Yorktown and bought some Virginia honey & jam at the Sat. farmers' market.

We'd recommend this cottage to any couple seeking restful solitude.

Scenic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really loved this beautiful location. It was a beautiful, calm getaway before and after two days of family party/wedding in New Kent and Richmond. We kayaked, swam, watched marsh rabbits, star gazed, and relaxed. The nights were gorgeous with stars. We saw several meteors shoot above the river. Though we are not bird watchers, we observed many beautiful species, including Osprey that live near the pier. My husband caught (and released) several species of fish he caught from the pier at high tides. Folks in nearby Deltaville were extremely polite and the fresh seafood at J & W Seafood was exceptional. This is truly a quiet and romantic retreat.

Excellent place!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely stunning place. My wife and I rented this place and had an incredible trip. Communication with Deena leading up to the trip was great and everything went off without a hitch. The house is full of windows and right near the river. We were very excited when we entered to see a welcome basket with wine and assorted snacks as well as staples in the fridge. Kitchen is small, but more than functional. Easy drive to Williamsburg as well as Richmond. The dock is nice and I was even able to snag a few fish off it.

The pictures of this property do not do it justice. What a beautiful place, we actually did not want to leave, although we had plans to explore Williamsburg, Yorktown, which we did. Deena was so helpful in supplying us information on what to see and do in the area. Upon arrival we were surprised with a gift basket with wine, and assorted snacks, along with milk and staples in the refrigerator. My husband, son and I enjoyed this property tremendously, and I would highly recommend it. The only drawback was that we did not have more time to enjoy it.
