Restored in 2006, this 250 sq. ft. efficiency apartment is packed with character. Ammenities include a kitchenette with sink, mini fridge, microwave, and single burner countertop induction cooktop, with asst. small appliances and utensils/ serving ware for your convenience. The bath features a spacious shower with marble topped vanity. Breakfast table with seating for 2, plush queen sized bed, and 32' flat screen tv w/ blueray dvd player finish out this island hideaway. Bathed in a panorama of natural light, the simplicty of the painted shiplap walls with refinished antique heart pine floors create an aura of calm and relaxation that you will not find in a cramped impersonal hotel room. Take in the ocean breezes and sounds of the surf from your own small private deck. Satellite tv, and wireless internet services are provided. Small charcoal grill on premises (BYO Charcoal)
The Hideaway is built above the carriage house of a 1914 Craftsman bungalow which is located on the opposite end of the property (see Homeaway listing # 905922). The properties are screened from each other by the lush plantings of the garden setting. Whether in search of quiet and reflection, a romantic get away, or simply an alternative to a conforming hotel room, the Island Hideaway Carriage House can provide the ideal setting.
Galveston has an impressive fourth of July celebration (fireworks display are set off at 37th Street jetty 3 blocks away). Beat the crowds by enjoying the display from the comfort of your own private deck, or at the very least , steps from your doorway. Thanksgiving and Christmas are another ideal time to be on the island. The summer crowds have thinned out, the weather is mild (bordering on awesome), and the atmosphere is laid back.
If it is raucious fun and the excitement of the crowds that you're looking for, then come down for Mardi Gras (several Mardi Gras parades march down this section of Seawall Blvd. for two consecutive weekends prior to the beginning of the lenten season. Spring break, Memorial Day, or The Lone Star Bike Rally (usually the first week of November) offer additional opportunities to catch the Island at it's peak, but make sure to book early.

Cozy little apartment in a perfect location to access all the fun activities and restaurants in Galveston. Hosts were great to respond & take care of any request. Would definitely recommend the Carriage House.
Louise & Steve Matthews,
My favorite place to stay in Galveston! The landscaping is beautiful!! Always a pleasure to meet the folks in big house and share the yard. Great fun with Rally and staying so close in cute apartment!!
We love being close to all that matters in Galveston and being within very easy walking distance to the Seawall and the beach.
Lovely efficiency with everything I needed (except hand soap) for a relaxing 2 days.
Was unable to sit outside as the mosquitos were so bad, but the smell of the overhanging lilac was devine.
Property had lush gardens, but could have done with some trimming around entrance to stairway.
I stayed this weekend in the adorable carriage house with my mom for a girl's weekend! It is right in the middle of everything and only a short walk to the beach and great dining spots. The house itself has SO much character and everything you need for a cozy retreat. We thoroughly enjoyed the lush gardens and the patio, especially in the mornings. I highly reccomend staying here!
This little apartment was the perfect size for 2 people, and the location was perfect - 5 minute walk to beach. Neighbourhood was quiet. It was clean and had all the accessories needed for a short stay. However, we did discover cockroaches running about. We think they came in through a gap off the kitchen counter near the door. Have told the owner and hopefully he will spray to rectify this problem.
Overall - you get what you pay for - quiet, small, clean, functional apartment.

This cozy island carriage house retreat is nestled on the edge of a quiet corner lot in a lush tropical garden setting. Near the Kempner Park neighborhood of old mid town Galveston, we are 2 blocks from Galveston's seawall & beaches. The neighborhood is a quiet collection of bungalows just off the beaten path of the more 'tourisity' parts of the Island, but still in the middle of activity. Island favorites 'Queen's Bar-b-que', 'The Spot ' Restaurant and bar, 'Brick House Tavern', 'The Gumbo Diner' and 'Joe's Crab Shack' are all within 3 blocks along Seawall Boulevard. Island landmark 'Gaido's' Restaurant is 5 blocks farther south (39th Street at Seawall). The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier built over the gulf is 9 blocks east (25th street at Seawall Blvd. The Downtown Strand historic District and cruise ship terminal are within a 5 minuite drive, while Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn water park are an approx. 15 minuite drive west.
