The Hideaway is built above the carriage house of a 1914 Craftsman bungalow which is located on the opposite end of the property (see Homeaway listing # 905922). The properties are screened from each other by the lush plantings of the garden setting. Whether in search of quiet and reflection, a romantic get away, or simply an alternative to a conforming hotel room, the Island Hideaway Carriage House can provide the ideal setting.
Galveston has an impressive fourth of July celebration (fireworks display are set off at 37th Street jetty 3 blocks away). Beat the crowds by enjoying the display from the comfort of your own private deck, or at the very least , steps from your doorway. Thanksgiving and Christmas are another ideal time to be on the island. The summer crowds have thinned out, the weather is mild (bordering on awesome), and the atmosphere is laid back.
If it is raucious fun and the excitement of the crowds that you're looking for, then come down for Mardi Gras (several Mardi Gras parades march down this section of Seawall Blvd. for two consecutive weekends prior to the beginning of the lenten season. Spring break, Memorial Day, or The Lone Star Bike Rally (usually the first week of November) offer additional opportunities to catch the Island at it's peak, but make sure to book early.

This was a great surprise. A small space made into a cozy and delightfully appointed room. We loved the quietness of the neighborhood setting and the location was perfect for our weekend visit to the island.
Beautiful! Was wonderful sitting on the porch drinking wine and listening to Sinatra! The place was was perfectly equipped. So cute! Loved the privacy! Bill was wonderful! Thank you Bill!
Very nice house, very clean, great location - a block away from the Sea Wall. I enjoyed sating there, will recommend it, and would definitely come back again.
However, if you stay there, keep in mind that overgrown tree branches will keep you awake all night. They scratch on the windows and make it sound like someone is outside trying to open a gate or something. I had to get up and check around a several times, especially the first night, then you will used to it. Good idea to keep a handgun loaded next to you like I did as well.
Also, I killed a huge spider crawling on the sealing. Because of my arachnophobia I only give four stars. Other than that, my stay was enjoyable :)
The Island Carriage House is a perfect place for two people. Everything that you might need is available and easy to find. We parked in the driveway and didn't need our car again until it was time to leave. We walked everywhere and found some of the best food we have ever had, not to mention the great beach just two blocks away. This is our second week long stay at the Carriage House and we plan to return next year, and the next year etc, etc. Thanks for everything Bill you were a great help! Mark and Annie
Cozy little apartment in a perfect location to access all the fun activities and restaurants in Galveston. Hosts were great to respond & take care of any request. Would definitely recommend the Carriage House.

This cozy island carriage house retreat is nestled on the edge of a quiet corner lot in a lush tropical garden setting. Near the Kempner Park neighborhood of old mid town Galveston, we are 2 blocks from Galveston's seawall & beaches. The neighborhood is a quiet collection of bungalows just off the beaten path of the more 'tourisity' parts of the Island, but still in the middle of activity. Island favorites 'Queen's Bar-b-que', 'The Spot ' Restaurant and bar, 'Brick House Tavern', 'The Gumbo Diner' and 'Joe's Crab Shack' are all within 3 blocks along Seawall Boulevard. Island landmark 'Gaido's' Restaurant is 5 blocks farther south (39th Street at Seawall). The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier built over the gulf is 9 blocks east (25th street at Seawall Blvd. The Downtown Strand historic District and cruise ship terminal are within a 5 minuite drive, while Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn water park are an approx. 15 minuite drive west.
