Texas Gulf Coast Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Efficiency one bedroom apartment with kitchenette, 1 bath with shower, sleeps 2

Restored in 2006, this 250 sq. ft. efficiency apartment is packed with character. Ammenities include a kitchenette with sink, mini fridge, microwave, and single burner countertop induction cooktop, with asst. small appliances and utensils/ serving ware for your convenience. The bath features a spacious shower with marble topped vanity. Breakfast table with seating for 2, plush queen sized bed, and 32' flat screen tv w/ blueray dvd player finish out this island hideaway. Bathed in a panorama of natural light, the simplicty of the painted shiplap walls with refinished antique heart pine floors create an aura of calm and relaxation that you will not find in a cramped impersonal hotel room. Take in the ocean breezes and sounds of the surf from your own small private deck. Satellite tv, and wireless internet services are provided. Small charcoal grill on premises (BYO Charcoal)

The Hideaway is built above the carriage house of a 1914 Craftsman bungalow which is located on the opposite end of the property (see Homeaway listing # 905922). The properties are screened from each other by the lush plantings of the garden setting. Whether in search of quiet and reflection, a romantic get away, or simply an alternative to a conforming hotel room, the Island Hideaway Carriage House can provide the ideal setting.

Galveston has an impressive fourth of July celebration (fireworks display are set off at 37th Street jetty 3 blocks away). Beat the crowds by enjoying the display from the comfort of your own private deck, or at the very least , steps from your doorway. Thanksgiving and Christmas are another ideal time to be on the island. The summer crowds have thinned out, the weather is mild (bordering on awesome), and the atmosphere is laid back.

If it is raucious fun and the excitement of the crowds that you're looking for, then come down for Mardi Gras (several Mardi Gras parades march down this section of Seawall Blvd. for two consecutive weekends prior to the beginning of the lenten season. Spring break, Memorial Day, or The Lone Star Bike Rally (usually the first week of November) offer additional opportunities to catch the Island at it's peak, but make sure to book early.

Great Trip

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house! We are planning on coming back in October and will try our best to rent it again. The neighborhood was beautiful, as well as quiet and the little place was extremely quiet and met all of our expectations. Thanks again and we look forward to returning.

Carraige House Retreat = Perfect Fit

  • 4 of 5

The Carraige House Retreat was a perfect fit for my beach weekend getaway. My daughter and I enjoyed the clean and nicely decorated apartment and the quaint sitting deck. It was easy to find and a perfect location for accessing the beach. We enjoyed driving to both sides of the island to sightsee, shop and dine. We will definitely go back!

Great time (again)!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay and we had a great time. Everything was in order and Bill answered all the questions we had. I highly recommend it for a couple looking for a quaint, well located place to stay.

Really nice place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. The place was clean and in the perfect location. Just a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 20 minute walk to downtown. We left our car in the driveway and never used it the whole week. It was really private with a nice little yard. We will be back. We had the best vacation!

A Quiet Oasis

  • 5 of 5

A couple of blocks from the seawall, this is a perfect location to take in the hustle of Galveston and the charm of Galveston's historic heritage. The Carriage House is cozy, charming, quaint. We loved our three nights and look forward to our next trip there.

Good location, not so good management

  • 3 of 5

I recently took a 2 night trip to Galveston and rented this property. The owner sent me a timely communication with the details of how to get in, etc. when i got there at 3 pm to check in, the house wasnt ready nor clean. I reached out to the owner and he said to hang tight. A few minutes later he told me it would be ready in an hour (at 4 pm). I had to kill time for an hour and after that, when I went to check on the house it was still not ready, and the cleaners nowehere to be found. At about 5:10 the cleaning crew showed up and it took them well over 45 minutes to clean the place. The owners reason for the delay was that the cleaning crew had a "rough week".

A few things i did not like about the place:

Mosquitos everywhere (but youre in Galveston and its raining so thats a given)

The towels were clean but had yellow stains which always makes you question if theyre actually clean

There is a driveway in front of the garage with a place to park but beware, there are fire ants. Theres also a big old moth/bee hive in a tree on the driveway

We did not keep the front door open for any longer than we needed to but somehow there was a 2 inch long cockroach in the bathroom that really freaked out my gf

The ceiling fan is really low to the bed so if you plan on standing up by the bed to change, beware of the fan or youll get clipped if you raise your arms

A few things i liked:

Location is great - can walk to the beach if you like

Quiet neighborhood

Wifi and cable included

Option to use the garden with a portable grill

I dont enjoy writing bad reviews but while this place is great location-wise, i personally didnt have a great experience because my room was not ready in time. I was given a specific set of guidelines to follow for my stay and if i'm expected to adhere to them and pay the $ that I did, I also expect the same level of commitment from the owner to provide me good service. I would not stay here again because of the experience I had. With all that being said, I'm sure others have had much better experiences and would highly recommend the place.

This cozy island carriage house retreat is nestled on the edge of a quiet corner lot in a lush tropical garden setting. Near the Kempner Park neighborhood of old mid town Galveston, we are 2 blocks from Galveston's seawall & beaches. The neighborhood is a quiet collection of bungalows just off the beaten path of the more 'tourisity' parts of the Island, but still in the middle of activity. Island favorites 'Queen's Bar-b-que', 'The Spot ' Restaurant and bar, 'Brick House Tavern', 'The Gumbo Diner' and 'Joe's Crab Shack' are all within 3 blocks along Seawall Boulevard. Island landmark 'Gaido's' Restaurant is 5 blocks farther south (39th Street at Seawall). The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier built over the gulf is 9 blocks east (25th street at Seawall Blvd. The Downtown Strand historic District and cruise ship terminal are within a 5 minuite drive, while Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn water park are an approx. 15 minuite drive west.
