Overview

Texas Gulf Coast Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Efficiency one bedroom apartment with kitchenette, 1 bath with shower, sleeps 2

Restored in 2006, this 250 sq. ft. efficiency apartment is packed with character. Ammenities include a kitchenette with sink, mini fridge, microwave, and single burner countertop induction cooktop, with asst. small appliances and utensils/ serving ware for your convenience. The bath features a spacious shower with marble topped vanity. Breakfast table with seating for 2, plush queen sized bed, and 32' flat screen tv w/ blueray dvd player finish out this island hideaway. Bathed in a panorama of natural light, the simplicty of the painted shiplap walls with refinished antique heart pine floors create an aura of calm and relaxation that you will not find in a cramped impersonal hotel room. Take in the ocean breezes and sounds of the surf from your own small private deck. Satellite tv, and wireless internet services are provided. Small charcoal grill on premises (BYO Charcoal)

The Hideaway is built above the carriage house of a 1914 Craftsman bungalow which is located on the opposite end of the property (see Homeaway listing # 905922). The properties are screened from each other by the lush plantings of the garden setting. Whether in search of quiet and reflection, a romantic get away, or simply an alternative to a conforming hotel room, the Island Hideaway Carriage House can provide the ideal setting.

Galveston has an impressive fourth of July celebration (fireworks display are set off at 37th Street jetty 3 blocks away). Beat the crowds by enjoying the display from the comfort of your own private deck, or at the very least , steps from your doorway. Thanksgiving and Christmas are another ideal time to be on the island. The summer crowds have thinned out, the weather is mild (bordering on awesome), and the atmosphere is laid back.

If it is raucious fun and the excitement of the crowds that you're looking for, then come down for Mardi Gras (several Mardi Gras parades march down this section of Seawall Blvd. for two consecutive weekends prior to the beginning of the lenten season. Spring break, Memorial Day, or The Lone Star Bike Rally (usually the first week of November) offer additional opportunities to catch the Island at it's peak, but make sure to book early.

Outstanding vacation spot, we loved everything about this carriage house!!!

  • 5 of 5

Like most other reviews, I will say that this Island Carriage House is perfect. Location is great. Close to a lot of good food and the beach, far enough away to be protected from the traffic noise, and so very private. Everything that we could have needed was there for us and we plan to return next year. Thanks to Bill for the good communication and a great place to stay!!

A Happy Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent our wedding anniversary staying in the cottage. We had never been to Galveston and had no agenda or specific plans other than to eat a crawfish boil and cook some local fish.

The cottage is perfect for a couple! It feels very private with dense garden foliage. The interior is clean and well accomodated. It had all we needed as far as kitchen equipment, coffee maker, cutting boards, plates and bowls, etc.

The bathroom is cozy, and everything works great. The shower is nice.

We enjoyed being in the space, and all of the little design elements that kept our eyes moving around. Little points of interest, nice touches.

We ate our crawfish boil down at Benno's by the beach and bought fresh grouper and shrimp at Katie's seafood market. We used the little grill in the garden which was fun. Make sure you bring your own charcoal, lighter fluid, charcoal chimney.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would stay here if we come back for a visit.

Fun Visit

  • 4 of 5

This small villa is situated about 3-4 blocks north of the seawall area. You can walk up and find some restaurants within the 6-7 block range. The villa is nice but very small. It is essentially a one room studio with a small bathroom. You'll find it upstairs above a old garage. There is a dorm size frige and a microwave. Stairs are the only access. Bed was comfy. Wifi, Sat TV, Snack Basket, and water were included. AC&Heat is via window unit. Unit was clean and maintained.

Relaxing getaway in Galveston.

  • 4 of 5

This beautiful, clean, well-maintained, accurately described carriage house met our expectations for a relaxing getaway in Galveston. We would definitely return for a visit, and would recommend this property to others. The owner was responsive and easy to communicate with. The only complaint we could offer (and this is a bit of a stretch) is that it was difficult for us not to track water into the house as it rained the entire time we were there and the runoff from the roof fell onto us as we climbed the stairs to access the unit. In good weather, there would be absolutely no problem. We look forward to visiting again and will return to the carriage house without hesitation.

Nice place to stay in Galveston

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting family prior to the Christmas holidays and decided to try the Island Carriage House for a couple of days. Property was exactly as described, and very close to the beach and dining options. Clean, well-furnished and perfect for a couple. Note that it is small - but that's exactly what is advertised and also what we needed.

No problems checking in and communication with owner/manager was excellent. Would consider staying here again in the future!

"The Perfect Getaway"

  • 5 of 5

The location was perfect only a couple of blocks to the beach and just a shot across town to the strand. We parked in front our nice quiet apartment in our "own" parking spot. The apartment was clean and cute with a welcome basket for us. It was as it was described with lots of ambiance. Great experience.

Thanks!!

This cozy island carriage house retreat is nestled on the edge of a quiet corner lot in a lush tropical garden setting. Near the Kempner Park neighborhood of old mid town Galveston, we are 2 blocks from Galveston's seawall & beaches. The neighborhood is a quiet collection of bungalows just off the beaten path of the more 'tourisity' parts of the Island, but still in the middle of activity. Island favorites 'Queen's Bar-b-que', 'The Spot ' Restaurant and bar, 'Brick House Tavern', 'The Gumbo Diner' and 'Joe's Crab Shack' are all within 3 blocks along Seawall Boulevard. Island landmark 'Gaido's' Restaurant is 5 blocks farther south (39th Street at Seawall). The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier built over the gulf is 9 blocks east (25th street at Seawall Blvd. The Downtown Strand historic District and cruise ship terminal are within a 5 minuite drive, while Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn water park are an approx. 15 minuite drive west.
