The White House offers a cozy screen porch, views and sounds of Lake Michigan, a quiet, country setting, and access to a scenic but little known public beach. We are located with 15 minutes of both South Haven to the south, and Saugatuck to the north. Inbetween, there are winery tours, antiquing, berry picking, beachcombing, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and of course, Kilwins famous fudge. The public beaches in Saugatuck and South Haven are sandy and inviting, but nothing is as private and as cozy as the Glenn Beach, just a short walk down the quiet country road. Horseback riding is available locally, as well as golf, boat rentals, and movie theaters. This charming, clean older cottage house is equipped with modern conveniences such as cable, internet, washer & dryer, microwave, coffee maker, making your stay carefree as you enjoy the privacy of this gentle 'Pancake Town' of Glenn.
I grew up coming to the lake every summer, to my great-grandmother's cottage, which is just a short walk down the road from the White House. I fell in love with the area and bought the cottages in 1999, from my parents who had purchased the cluster of cottages in the 1970's. Having grown up spending summers along the lakeshore, I am completely taken with its joys, and you'll find me here every summer until my dying day.
Patricia Kerr purchased this cottage in 1999
My mom had re-married and inherited 3 more children. She wanted to have room for the whole blended family to enjoy summers together at the lake, so she and my step-dad began to fix them up and rent them out in the mid 70's.
Location location location! There isn't a better beach than the Glenn Beach anywhere in the world, and the peaceful quality of life is refreshing. Yet, you're still only 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of 2 charming towns-- Saugatuck to the north, and South Haven to the south. The kids will love the swing set, and the teens may want to wander up to the Glenn school (the oldest continuously operating one-room schoolhouse in Michigan) for a game of basketball. In addition, the old hardware store, charming Glenn Restaurant and well stocked convenience store make Glenn feel like stepping back in time.
We really enjoyed staying at the White House, the moment you walk through the door, it feels so welcoming! The wrap-around porch was a wonderful aspect to the house. It provided lots of room for the kids to play games, for reading or whatever. The trip to the beach was a short distance, so we didn't mind. For the price, it's a great deal. Overall we had an awesome vacation at the White House.

Patricia made sure we were comfortable and happy even though the weather had turned very cold for mid-May. My wife and I didn't mind, as we hiked along the beach, visited South Haven and Saugatuck, and relaxed reading. The house was clean and welcoming and away from the hustle and bustle of most resorts. This is great for anyone who is looking for a peaceful, quiet escape!
If you are looking for an "off the beaten path" wonderful vintage Michigan summer cottage, this is the place to go. The walk down to the beach is on a quiet dirt road and the beach is lovely. We like the spaciousness of the cottage, the sleeping porch and sound of the lake. We still can't get over how quiet and peaceful it was in the cottage. We also loved how easy it was to get to restaurants and shopping. We will be back!
This was our 5th year to stay at the White House and we always enjoy it! The cottage is charming, comfortable, and works great for families -- lots of space, and a terrific yard for outdoor games like croquet and volleyball after a day at the beach.
The beach is only a short walk, and never crowded. One of our favorite things about staying at the White House is the view of the lake and the sounds of the waves. We love the wrap around screened in porch!
When you want a day in town, Saugatuck and Douglas are just a short drive. We also love the little town of Glen, and we were fortunate to happen upon the fireman's pancake breakfast one year!! If we miss that, the local Glen diner is a great choice too. We also do a fair amount of cooking and grilling and the kitchen is nicely equipped for what we need.
The cottage owner is very attentive and always available if we ever need anything. We look forward to going back again this summer, as the White House has really become our July "home away!".
The White House is a vintage cottage (cerca 1920's) that has many of the modern conveniences--cable, internet, washer and dryer, etc. without losing the feel of charm of days gone by. Situated on a quiet country road
overlooking Lake Michigan, The White House is just a short walk to the beach access--a lovely, sandy beach that is never crowded, that offers not only the joys of swimming in the Big Lake, but also a jolly creek that the little ones will enjoy. The outdoor patio is a perfect place to watch the sunset while having a cool glass of chardonnay from the local Fenn Valley winery. The screened porch offers cozy nooks for quiet reading, or group areas for a friendly game of cards or monopoly. Located in the quaint 'Pancake Town' of Glenn, it is a short 15 minute drive to either Saugatuck --to the north--or South Haven--to the south, so you're close enough to the great restuarants, antique shopping, ice cream jaunts, berry picking, golfing, and any number of other summer delights.
