Richard purchased this apartment in 2012
I chose this property because of it's unique location right on a very quiet canal but just a stone throw away from the city centre.
My family of 5 (including 3 kids ages 12, 13, &16) stayed at the Van Gogh Suites apartment in June and really enjoyed it. It's very comfortable, and the washer/dryer were greatly appreciated. It is located in a nice spot. Quiet, but a short walk into the more popular/louder spots. The apartment was clean and as described. I found my bed to be very comfortable. My kids didn't complain, so I assume theirs were as well. I called Richard when we arrived and he gave us the code and a quick little info on the closest amenities, i.e. grocery mart around the corner. The apartment is located on the Prinsengracht (canal) that you can follow along to get to the Jordaan region. But we also walked straight through towards Centraal Station and other things located in the city center. We took a bike ride with We Bike Amsterdam into the countryside which was fantastic, despite the drenching rain that started about halfway in--I highly recommend finding a bike company and taking a tour. We also took a train ride to Haarlem for one of our days, including a trip out to Zandvoort to see the North Sea. There is a really nice bakery called Bakhuys a block or so away. We found it on our last morning, unfortunately. Overall, a really nice place to stay.
This apartment was perfect for us! It's beautiful and in a great location. We loved the canal area of Amsterdam. We had some family join us for dinner and there was plenty of room inside to sit and eat, and dishes for 14 of us. The garden/courtyard is a shared area, so we took turns with our neighbours. The apartment is clean and well-maintained, and worth the price.
Great apartment. clean, pretty, quiet, nicely located - just about 10 minutes from the centre of things.
Rooms are as photographed. The master bedroom is large but the other two are tiny, but that's like most Amsterdam aptts.
Easy checkin etc.
The apartment came with 3 bikes in super fantastic condition, that was a pleasant and happy surprise.
The owner was a bit busy, he was moving house that week. The only small problem we encountered was that the washing machine instructions were in Dutch and Richard couldn't come till the 5th day to explain them to us. But this is a minor detail.
On the whole, we were really happy with the stay and recommend this apartment heartily to other tourists.
Our group of six (two families with young adolescents) stayed for five nights and found the apartment location charming, and the apartment lovely. The space/flow are extremely well considered, there was room for everyone. Our daughter in particular loved the interesting and tasteful way it was decorated. There is a lovely exterior courtyard and bikes available. Richard could not have been a more considerate host. Highly recommended.
This space is just perfect for 6 people. I found the pictures to be a bit confusing. In American terminology you need to consider it a split foyer w the foyer bring the kitchen. The kitchen is tightly and efficiently organized. We stayed here for two weeks and had every appliance, pot & pan that we needed.
The bathroom situation is a little screwy. There is one complete bathroom w toilet, sink, shower & tub. Then there are two other spaces. In the lower lever there is a shower & sink. In the upper lever there is a toilet & sink. It's not ideal, but absolutely better than not having them!
There were two other things that I really appreciated.
First, the interior stairs are minimal. I got a peak into the unit next door and the stairs were straight up! A real bugger w any kind of luggage. I also came to appreciate the fact that our side of the canal was a dead end street. It made for a much quieter, & I would think, safer environment.
Location is perfect. We walked practically everywhere. Uber had little difficulty in finding us when we were too tired to walk (The dead end street got them. They usually were on the other side of the canal. Easy to fix!)
We loved this space. I don't know how it could be improved (there are things like lack of building insulation that is beyond the owner's control.)
Location was perfect for us. Really liked the sense of security of being on a blocked off street. The apartment had everything that we needed. It's tightly, but well organized. Also loved the fact that we didn't have to navigate those steep, windy steps that are notorious in Amsterdam. (had the opportunity to peek into the unit next door & the steps were killers!).
In American terms, I would call this a split foyer with the kitchen being the foyer. I found navigating the photos a bit challenging, so start your visual tour in the kitchen. Down about four steps and you're in the coat room followed by the main bath, 3 closet spaces & the laundry area. Continue going back & you're in the main bedroom with an elevated area for suitcases, etc. Thru the back bedroom door is another short hallway & the second bedroom that contains a shower room (no toilet). You can reverse from this room & go up the back steps & be in the living/dining room. (this is where the large Dutch Masters painting is hanging) Toward the back of that room is the third bedrom with a half bath (no shower). The smaller bathrooms are a bit unusual, but certainly much better than not having them! There is another short set of steps in the kitchen that leads directly into the living area.
I would happily love to return to this space. We have nothing but positive feelings about our entire trip to Amsterdam.
The beautiful Amsterdam canals are literally one step out of your front door! Within easy walking distance you'll find all the cities top attractions such as Dam-square, Anne Frank-house, 9 Streets, Mme. Tussaud's, Jordaan area and even the famous Red Light District. The best restaurants and cosiness of Amsterdam so close by! Also large shopping streets such as Kalverstraat and Bijenkorf, and for high-end shopping you will definitly succeed in P.C. Hooftstraat.
Van Gogh Suites is a real comfortable mansion right in the middle of the old city! You can rent a boat and cross the canals to see the old city in a whole new perspective, or just take a stroll and discover the beauty of the old streets in the neighborhood. Take a lunch on one of the many terraces, visit the Museums with all the Dutch famous painters or discover Amsterdam nightlive all within easy reach!
