Brand-New, Modern 1-bedroom Apartment By The Sea
- english, spanish, Icelandic
An American settled in Iceland. I grew up in the Chicago area, but I left the States in 2008. In 2010 I met the Icelandic man who is now my husband. After traveling together through Thailand, Mexico, and Honduras, he finally convinced me that Iceland was the place to be, and we've been here since 2012. We manage together the local restaurants Rauða Húsið and Hafið Bláa, an the hostel next-door is a family business involving three generations of my husband's family. At check-in or during your stay, chances are, you will meet my mother-in-law Ingibjörg or father-in-law Jón, my husband Jóhann, and maybe our little three-year-old son Vincent or our 1-year-old daughter Victoria. If not, you will meet the friendly staff at the hostel reception, and they will be happy to answer all your questions.
Jessi purchased this Condo in 2014
Why Jessi chose Eyrarbakki
This is one of 9 apartments purpose-built by us as a guest apartment. Iceland is always growing in popularity as a tourist destination, and we enjoy welcoming guests to our little village of 525 people. However, in Eyrarbakki as in other places around Iceland, houses where families used to live are being bought up as vacation rentals, and there are fewer homes available for locals. So in 2014, we purchased the old fish factory in the village and are turning it piece by piece into comfortable, modern apartments with everything a guest needs. In total, there are 8 apartments in the building, as well as a 36-bed hostel.

Had everything we needed. Well maintained
Nice quiet place!
The place was easy to find. The owner provided easy check in instructions. The place is very clean, comfortable and quiet. You are right by the ocean! Just walk a few steps from your own deck. It was too cold and rainy for us to enjoy. After a day of sight seeing, we snuggled up inside to watch plenty of programs on TV!! We went into town for groceries, which was a short drive. Nice kitchen with a small fridge. We used the toaster and microwave. Plenty of dishes to use. There was tea and coffee available. I would highly recommend if you are in the area and need a nice place to sleep and relax. We stayed 2 nights and it is well worth the price.
We ate in town for dinner one night and would recommend Kaffi Krus. Small quaint house with 2 stories. We got the fish and chips which was excellent and the Favorite pizza. We had extra pizza which we heated the next morning.
The shower was nice and temperature warm. We did not have any issues at all.
Thanks for such a nice place to stay during our first 2 nights in Iceland!!
Happy and peaceful
It was so great to come back to this apartment each night and get refreshed for the next day! Very relaxing 😎
Wonderful 3 Days in Apartment in Eyrarbakki
Definitions recommend staying here!!!! The apartment was incredibly clean, lovely to sit on the deck for any reason (even outdoor chair cushions were waiting on top of fridge!!!!) and had all the supplies, like dishes, glasses, towels you would ever need!!! Jessi made sure prior to arrival we could have any assistance needed. Several good restaurants nearby and in Selfoss; grocery in nearby Selfoss made eating in very easy also. Close to Thingvelir, Gulfoss, Blue Lagoon. Great walking path along ocean. The owner has placed their own most incredible photos from all over Iceland in the unit and they are truly spectacular...no need to watch TV with those photos inside and the ocean out your deck!!!
Very nice place but kind of out of the way
We liked the place. It was comfortable and quiet. Right on the ocean. Convenience store right there and two restaurants nearby. The bed was incredibly hard so we did have a little trouble sleeping.
Lovely and comfortable
Eyrarbakki was a great starting point for touring the Southwestern part of Iceland. The apartment was great and well stocked. We loved the photographs. Everyone was very helpful.
