This cottage has all the comforts of home and more. We were a family of five with three teenage girls. The property description was very accurate and convenient to everything in Manistee. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and wonderfully decorated. We found all the amenities more than sufficient, including the bicycles, fire pit and outdoor chair, tables and grill. We prepared most of our meals at the cottage and was surprised with all the utensils, pots, and appliances available. The owner was nice and easy to work with. She provided answers to all our questions to complete our stay and make us feel welcomed. We would definitely recommend the rental to friends and family. During our visit, we were within a short walk to the river boardwalk, the 1st street beach and downtown Manistee. It was a very short drive to the 5th street beach. Other places we visited were the Nordhouse dunes (hike to the dunes) just 20 minutes drive from the cottage and Sleeping Bear Dunes was an hour drive. We chartered a fishing trip from Real Pleasure Charters just across the river from the cottage. And we enjoyed the walks along the river boardwalk, using the bikes and trips to the House of Flavors.
Wonderful home close to downtown and the beach, just a great location. This quaint cottage is clean, well decorated, and comfortable.
The homeowner takes great pride in her home and it shows; kitchen cabinets are well stocked with herbs and spices, and there is a more than ample supply of consumables - like soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
The landlady is a wonderful, warm person. I called her once during my stay with a question about a downtown business and she was more than helpful.
I travel extensively for work, and I would be a more relaxed person if every place I stayed was as well maintained and comfortable as this house.
I will definitely stay here again. Great rental.
This is our second time staying in this cottage and we love it. The location is perfect. My husband can take the truck fishing in the morning while I stay behind with our kids and if I want the truck I just walk up to the marina where he has locked the keys in there for us. Its such a short nice walk, it makes sharing a vehicle no problem at all. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable, nicely decorated and clean. The back yard is perfect, it is private and enclosed. I can let my children play out there and also store things like strollers without worries. You can also open the gate in the back yard to easily ride strollers or bikes out. Almost everything you need for household items are there making packing a lot easier. We always stop and get groceries when we get into town but also found that all the local restaurants deliver there (if they have delivery). We will be back again next year. Thank you
The land-lady is an absolute nightmare. On the first day she was walking through the house checking up on us telling us we left the porch light on (which I also do at home having a pregnant wife and small children). When she isn’t just dropping in on you, you can find her nearby parked across the street keeping an eye on you. We should have known what we were up against when she came to the place because of a plumbing problem and blamed the previous tenants and said, “well they won’t be getting there security deposit back.” Didn’t matter though because she blamed us as well stating that she noticed we used two rolls of toilet paper in the first 24 hours and that we were to blame. Really? Who pays attention to that? Unreal. When she wasn’t coming into the house or parking across the street, she would just show up at the beach where my family would hang out and watch them swim. Then she wrote us a very nasty letter and mailed it to our house along with part of our security deposit. She blamed us for a defect in the screen door which my wife saw her messing with the first day she met us there. The toilet which she also blamed the previous tenants for. Said we didn’t take the trash out on trash day (Wed.) and left putrid trash in the trash cans. Well she was right, we didn’t take the trash out on Wed. I am sure she noticed this on one of her spy missions, but she failed to observe that I actually took the trash to a dumpster two days after trash day (Friday) and that the trash in the trash can was just trash from the indoor trash cans. If she doesn’t want that trash to be put in the trash cans on checkout day (3 days after trash day) then tell your tenants that. She only kept a small part of the deposit so we didn’t argue with her but she certainly wrote a nasty letter. A couple things in the letter were true. We forgot to start the dishwasher before we left and a free trial was ordered on the Apple TV (which we offered to pay her for any inconvenience because she immediately texted us when it happened). 90% of the letter was false including the stuff addressed above. She accused of us of having too many people staying at the house because a couple of people who came up to fish on my boat were sleeping on the couches and she met them on one of her routine check-ups. She said my kids drew on her fence with a marker which they didn’t. We have stayed everywhere from Cancun to Canada. This land lady is difficult to deal with.
We came all the way from Dublin, Ireland for this vacation and had a great time on the shores of Lake Michigan. This is a lovely home with high ceilings, a spacious living area and 3 bedrooms off the main living area. The kitchen and utilities room are well equipped. There is a large back yard which is fenced off and suitable for children to play. Two barbeques and an open fire are available for use in the back yard. A sandy beach is 5-10 minutes walk from the house. We would certainly recommend this house for a family vacation. I spent a good bit of time fishing in the Manistee river and Lake Manistee. You can rent a small boat with an outboard motor for $75 for 4 hoursfrom Insta Launch just off route 31 in Manistee. Plenty of bass in there. For trout try just below Tippy dam.
We would definitely stay here again. The owner has clearly gone to great lengths to make sure guests feel at home at this property. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and the games, DVDs and small library of books were a nice addition. The shaded, fenced back yard was a great place for our boys to play. We loved being able to walk to town and the riverwalk (we could have walked to the beach, too, but usually drove). The beaches in town are very nice, as is the nearby bird santuary. We took several side trips, too (Arcadia, Frankfort, Traverse City, Glen Arbor). If we ever return to Manistee, this property will be at the top of our list.
A five minute walk and you will be in the historic business district of the Victorian Port City--Manistee. Enjoy the quaint shops along River Street and admire the architecture of the buildings in the downtown area. Take a stroll on the 'River Walk' accessible between the US-31 drawbridge and Lake Michigan. Enter the River Walk about a half block from the cottage. Plan a day or two at the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches in the area. If the lake is not appealing, try tubing, kayaking, or canoeing on the Manistee River. If fishing is your passion this area is the largest fishery in Michigan for salmon and steelhead. Many charter opportunities available by the 1/2 day or full day. River charters also available, If you prefer to golf there are 12+ beautiful courses within a 45 mile radius including Arcadia Bluffs (Golf Digest, #10 in US). Join Us for the National Forest Festival in July or the Christmas Sleighbell Weekend in December. Spend your time doing the things you love to do. The list is endless.
