The gites are situated in a very rural part of the Ardeche allowing a great incite into Southern French life. The locals are extremely friendly and the village of Rosiere is beautiful. Close to local amenities (as long as you have a car!) and the views meters from the doorstep and terrace are truly breathtaking.
•The Lower bedroom is with traditional stone walls & exposed beams & king-size traditional sleigh bed.
•Outside the bedroom is a small seating area with plenty of books to read.
•On the same floor off the large lounge is a WC and small kitchenette.
•On the first floor is a large second bedroom with a handmade oak king-size bed.
•The bathroom is also on the first floor.
•The kitchen has traditional stone walls and exposed beams. There are all mod cons including cooker, microwave/grill, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine.
•There is a table that seats six and a breakfast bar where you can take your morning coffee and croissant and admire the local countryside through the window of the terrace.
•The south facing terrace is entered through two double French doors from the kitchen on the first floor. The terrace being on the first floor gives you even better views of the surrounding vineyards. There is a further set of table and chairs for eating al fresco.
Agree with all the previous positive statements, though imagine lounge could be rather gloomy off-season. Located in quite a funky little hamlet, lovely views, very well equipped. Rosières itself seemed rather dull and unattractive, but Joyeuse is fine. Found a very nice swimming spot on the River Drobie, canoed from Balazuc although river was very low so boat had to be dragged over most of the rapids.
Nous avons eu de très belles vacances dans cette magnifique région qu'est l'Ardèche , et en plus le temps était de la parti , la maison était jolie , agréable très bien équipée et surtout calme , un vrai plaisir .
Quintessential French hamlet retreat. Beautifully furnished, very spacious property with magnificent views from the roof terrace. Heaps of useful information on local attractions.
We particularly love the fact that although situated in the Cevenne mountains, many walks are possible on the level. It's a short walk to the river for picnics on the beach or swimming, canoeing etc., The market in nearby Joyeuse is great. If your idea of the perfect holiday is being close to a bustling city with the sound of traffic never far away, you'll be disappointed. But if you seek tranquility and are excited by coming across a clump of wild orchids or the sight of an eagle soring overhead, then this is for you.
The property is in an ideal location if you want to get away from it all, live in the real France and love walking, canoeing, climbing and outdoor activities. The roof terrace has stunning views and the upstairs bedroom has an enormous bed! The kitchen is well equipped with all mod-cons. The bathroom is a bit basic with a small shower - for a house which could sleep six the bathroom is inadequate. There is a loo downstairs off the sitting room but it has no ventilation. The property is ideal for summer living if you are happy living on the terrace and in the kitchen or bedroom but it is not ideal off season. The downstairs sitting room and bedroom are gloomy and damp and it is not easy to get them warm. They also have virtually no light - probably fine on a hot day but not on a damp autumn day. If you love eating out, this is not the place to come - there are few really good French restaurants nearby - Joyeuse has a great one in the main street but it is only open at weekends in the evenings and there is a good one at Lebaume but that is about a half hour drive on windy roads and again is not open often in the evenings. The local supermarket is adequate but you need to be fairly imaginative with your cooking! The local wine cave is good for regional wine cheaply priced - about £18 for 10 litres! Speaking French is an advantage as there are few people around who speak English. Joyeuse has a great artisan quarter. Nimes is well worth an hour's drive for a whole day out as in the Pont du Gard.
We stayed in the Ardeche Retreat for 2 weeks and loved every moment. The house is very comfortable and is extremely well equipped. You have stunning walks right on your doorstep with total peace and quiet and a real feeling of "getting away from it all." On the other hand, the nearest village is 5 minutes away by car, where you can sit and watch the world go by with a coffee or a beer. We spent many an evening on the roof terrace watching the night sky which comes alive as there is no light polution. Overall, a superb place to stay and highly recommended.
Excellent location, the village is very representative of the small villages of Ardeche, and quiet. The house is very nice to live in, with cool rooms thanks to the old stone walls, very typical (I love the stone escalier, and the small "niches" in the stone walls !). Beautifully restored old house and well decorated (could well give you some ideas for your own !). Narrow but splendid view on La Blachère and Joyeuse from the terrasse. We spend our holiday in this area for years so I will not describe the beautiful paysage, always sunny weather, lovely villages around, nor the activities which are plenty ... and which all in all are the reasons why we will definitely come back !
La Blacheyrette Hamlet house: Ardeche Retreat and Petit Bijou are in a small hamlet called La Blacheyrette. La Blacheyrette is a hamlet of ten or so houses. The hamlet is in a valley up in the hills surrounded by vineyards. The house are in the heart of the Monts d’Ardeche regional national park and from the house you can walk straight into the local countryside, through the pine woods and take in the views of the Cevennes Mountains and the nearby Labeaume river, a tributary of the Ardeche river.
Rosieres is the nearest village and is 2 miles down the hill. The village has a small cinema, bar, newsagents, post office, tourism office, a couple of restaurants (in the hotel and a pizzeria) and supermarket on the outskirts. Not forgetting of course the two boulangeries and the wine co-operative shop where you can arrange to take a tour of some of the 150 vineyards and watch the wine making process. The Cris Activities centre in Rosieres can organize a variety of activities.
Other Activities: canoeing, Kayaking
