Overview

About the property

5,000 sq feet home perched over the Pedernales River with breath taking views

Outback Pedernales Retreats is where rustic elegance meets relaxation. Nested in the Texas hill country 15 miles outside of Austin it offers a tranquil and meditative retreat from the hustle and bustle of city living. Outback Pedernales Vacation Home is on the grounds of a private estate in the hill county of Spicewood, Texas. It's a perfect place for couples, girls and family get aways or while attending the numerous music events such in Austin and the surrounding area. It also has just the right amount of sophisticated, beauty, nature and space to hold magical weddings, anniversaries, family reunions or office parties. Vacationers looking for hidden gems will be pleased at what this special private getaway has to offer. You will find picturesque views, boating, swimming, fishing, inspiring rock formations and romantic waterfalls. Truly a photographers paradise.

The back yard contains a 1,500 square feet deck that is perfect for late night, morning and weekend dining. It is also fabulous for dancing, entertaining and receptions. The deck overlooks the Pedernales River and the beautiful hill country terrain. In our opinion downstairs along the river banks is one of the most meditative spots in the Hill Country. You can feel the Native American spiritual presence and from time to time spearheads have been discovered. This a a perfect site for a vacation you won't forget.

About Gail

Outdoors, sports minded, adventurous, with a desire to live life to the fullest.

Gail purchased this estate in 2005

Why Gail chose Spicewood

I wanted acreage and water for boating, a safe space to raise kids, and and as close to nature as possible without being too far from the city and job site. I also fell in the love with the kitchen, with it's sleek modern and classy amenities such as the double refrigerator, compactor, and wine cooler. And the backdrop of mirrors instead of the customary tile had me taken at first sight. It will capture your heart as well. But it is really the knowledge of knowing that this property is part of history. As you descend downstairs to the outback boating dock you can't help but feel the spiritual vibrations of the earlier native American who once lived here. There are small niches in between large rock formations where you can picture their everyday living . Such as the outdoor cooking and sleeping quarters. You also get a glimpse of what it might have been on the battle field of the early Texas and the Apaches with each side holding their ground on their side of the river. I have been told that it is common to find arrowheads on the grounds and banks of the river and other archeological finds. I feel it a honor and a blessing to safeguard this private sanctuary.

What makes this estate unique

What soothes my soul is the tranquil and peaceful sound of the outdoor waterfall as I rock on the back porch or sit on the front porch overlooking the oak trees. At the same time it's a great place to have a party. I bought this home to have family reunions and outdoor parties as well. It's private and no body will tell you to turn down your music or call the cops.

Not upto the mark

  • 2 of 5

We were here for three nights with family and friends. Our overall experience wasn't great.

Pros:

1. the location is good, it was a scenic drive

2. Pool is good and was maintained.

3. The owner is good and helpful lady

Cons:

1. Most of the advertised things were either not working at all or were

2. AC was the main issue, some rooms did not cool at all. we had to turn off the ACs during the day. Texas heat and No AC isnt a good combination

3. We had a scorpion bite. Glad this thing wasnt poisonous.

4. Hot tub wasn't working.

If we are paying full price, we do expect atleast all advertised stuff to work.

Cozy House with a Huge Pooll!

  • 4 of 5

This is a greater older home with an amazing pool. The pool made everything worth it. There are major ant problems and several wasps nests. The ants got all over our clothes upstairs. The view of the river is amazing but the dock needs major work. There also isn't proper AC in the upstairs guest bedroom. If you don't want to sweat your butt off bring an air mattress and sleep in one of the other rooms.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I will notify our pest control company of that issue immediately. I plan to replace that air conditioner in the near future as well.

Good location, plenty of room, excellent pool, private, house was clean, a little dated.

  • 4 of 5

This property worked very well for our family trip! There was plenty of room for all 9 of us, and each family had privacy and a bathroom. Round table worked well for playing games and cards. We cooked on the outside grill every night but one. Pool was excellent, and kids spent lots of time there. Air in upper guest bedroom was not cool enough, but tolerable. It was a challenge to hike down to the river, but some us us went down to fish - and 1 catfish was caught before the heat forced them back up to cool off. Overall, we had an excellent time celebrating our 50th Anniversary with family - and will come back if we have another opportunity!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Delighted you had a great family gathering and stay. Yes, that one bedroom air-conditioner will have to be replaced in the near future. Glad you enjoyed the pool. Now- how about showing us all that catfish you caught🐟!! We would love to see it!

This property needs upkeep and maintenace!

  • 1 of 5

Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience. (And I fully expect the owner/manager to be very defensive of this review, as she typically is of all others) The pictures of this home are beautiful, but this house/yard have not been maintained. The yard is full of stickers, no grass, and the river is down and dock to fish off is very trashy. The oven did not work when we arrived, and she said she would get one to us the next day. We needed the oven that night, and had to heat up an entire brisket on the stove. The next day, she asked me to be there between 12-3 to open the garage door for the repairmen that were coming to replace the oven that was already BOUGHT AND IN THE GARAGE, and sign off on the work order. ** If you KNOW the oven is not working, replace it PRIOR to your house being rented~ it's also definitely not my responsibility to take my time to let them in, and sign off on the work order** It was an inconvenience to us Friday night not having an oven, and an inconvenience the next day having two repairmen in the house! We also brought food to grill the next day, as her listing showed there was a charcoal grill. The entire bottom was rusted out of the grill. My husband had to find mesquite to burn in the bottom that wouldn't fall through to cook burgers. Ridiculous! (But when I complained, she assured me that it worked great the week before) The pool chairs had been nailed back together obviously and one was so weak that I FELL THROUGH IT when I sat down. The hot water in the master bedroom sink doesn't work. The water pressure is so bad in the guest room upstairs that you could probably take a better shower under the sink. The refrigerator is apparently turned off between guests, and takes a full day to cool down enough to keep food at a reasonable temp. I just want other potential guests to know beforehand that the property is NOT as it is advertised.
