Oozing character, very quiet and somewhat remote, Le Causse du Quercy is a traditional stone barn with air-conditioned bedrooms in a handsomely landscaped hilltop setting on 1.2 acres. Tastefully furnished with a warm, rustic feel, the property features a spacious, well-appointed living room with tiled floor, teak Venetian blinds and screened windows, giving onto a fully equipped open kitchen with granite counter. Upstairs, there is a large master bedroom with queen-size bed, rocking chair and high ceilings, and a smaller, cosy bedroom with twin beds that can be reconfigured as a double bed. Two bathrooms -- one on each floor -- sport Italian marble tiling. All modern conveniences are provided, including flat-screen TV with English & French satellite TV, free WiFi, DVD & CD players, as well as washer/dryer, dishwasher and microwave. Outdoors, there are a heated pool, solar-heated shower, lounge chairs, parasol and retractable awning, with a BBQ, outdoor table and gazebo.
The property is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding departments of Lot, Dordogne and Correze, located just 5 minutes from an 18-hole golf course, 10 minutes from Souillac and the Dordogne River Valley, 12 minutes from the autoroute, 20 minutes from the Brive airport, 25 minutes from Sarlat, Rocamadour and Gourdon, and 2 hours from Toulouse and Bordeaux.
We found Le Causse to be an extremely well-equipped, comfortable gite in a beautiful, quiet location. The area has lots to offer for walkers, cyclists (who don’t mind some hills!) and sightseers in general and Sam and Erica were very welcoming and helpful hosts.
Erica & Sam made us feel very welcome to their property. Lovely setting pool an added bonus. Very comfortable place to stay .
Have to compliment them on the directions to the property very clear so easy to find . Plenty to do in the area without having to travel far .
Lots of useful information available in the property.
They have really thought of everything to make the stay a pleasure
This a very well equipped cottage in a great location to explore both the Dordogne and the Lot valleys. Sam and Erica have provided so many things in the cottage to make your stay easy, including lots of dvds for both adults and kids, lots of maps and local information. The cottage is very comfortable and swimming pool was fantastic. Sam and Erica made us feel very welcome and ensured we had a pleasant stay.
We would definitely stay there again if we where back in the region. Thanks Sam and Erica
We stayed for 3 weeks at this beautiful Gite, we returned in June for 2 weeks due to the cancellation of our River cruise.
The Gite more than met our expectations, clean and comfortable, top of the range appliances, well stocked cupboards, heating and cooling, which we needed , as we had every type of weather during our stay.
The bedroom has wonderful views over the valley, lovely gardens and a shaded eating area, very private and sole use of the heated swimming pool.
Sam and Erica are wonderful hosts, they did everything they could to make our extended stay comfortable. and went out of their way to help us when we had a credit card "hic-cup".
Very convenient for visiting the Dordogne and Lot towns, our favourites were : Martel, Saint Cyprien, Belves, Gourdon, St-Leon sur Vezere and the beautiful town of Beynac, where we eventually had a short river cruise!
We would definitely recommend this Gite to all our friends, and would love to return in the future.
All the best Sam & Erica, (hope the Jazz concert is a great success), a hug to Berry, Hamish, Booboo & especially Pinkie.
We just returned from a week long stay with Erica and Sam. We had a wonderful time in a marvelously designed and well-kept 2 bedroom apartment. Our hosts could not have been more generous and available for any problem that developed (thanks to Sam, we eventually figured out how to use the stove-top)! The place in in rural Lot department, surrounded by a working sheep farm run by neighbor Georges and his herding dogs. Although rural, Souillac, a town with several large groceries and restaurants, is but 10 minutes away. And Sarlat and the Dordogne tourist areas are 30 minutes by car.
The pool was a major advantage for our several days with high tempuratures.
If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet stay, yet close to tourist sights, you could not do better than to stay with Erica and Sam.
We spent five days in Souillac in September-October and found this historic property to be exactly as promised. Extremely clean, comfortable, and well equipped with finishing details that made it especially appealing. Owners Sam and Erica balanced a wilingness to answer questions and suggest activities in the area with a sensitivity to our and their own privacy. Many exceptional finishing touches-my personal favorite, the "Nespresso" coffee maker. Lots of charming towns to visit during day trips, an excellent local bakery, and a peaceful, quiet ambience--in short, perfect.
The property itself and the location surpassed our expectations and the reality was just like the pictures which is so often not the case! Set amongst the hills in an elevated position it is a wonderful place to relax but at the same time provides a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful area of France. The tasteful accomodation comprises everything one might need and every detail has been considered in order to provide a cozy comfortable stay. Relaxing by the pool, refreshing dips and enjoying barbecues at sunset helped make our stay a memorable one. Sam and Erica are very welcoming and happy to assist with questions although there is a mass of information in the lounge that has been carefully put together on many locations and activities. We plan to return.
We are just 10 minutes from the pleasant, easygoing town of Souillac-sur-Dordogne. Souillac has a 12th-century abbey church, automaton museum, water park, weekly farmers' market, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, as well as an annual jazz festival. The Dordogne River, which runs through Souillac, offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing and picnic facilities, and an 18-hole golf course is just 5 minutes from our property. We are also less than 45 minutes from prehistoric and natural cave sites (including Lascaux, Pech Merle and the Gouffre de Padirac), Sarlat, Rocamadour, Gourdon and a slew of charming medieval villages. The region is renowned for its wines, gastronomy and the beautiful scenery of the Dordogne river valley.
