As above I would highly recommend this property. Excellent standard, very helpful owners and lovely welcome touches upon arrival.
Family/ sister reunion
The log cabin was a warm and cozy home away from home.....furnished comfortably, not as a rental but rather a well- loved, well- used family holiday home. It had magnificent sea views and was exceptionally well equipped with a small but super efficient open grate/ fire. We enjoyed sightings of dolphins, seals and the magnificent gannets. Nora and Sean were warm and caring hosts who introduced us to their cabin and were readily available when we had any questions..... thank you for your kindness.
We were 3 sisters (from Canada, Switzerland & N. Ireland)) and a dog D’Arcy and part of the time a nephew (Cotswolds, England) who choose to come here for a family reunion for the first 2 weeks in April. The area was stunningly beautiful. We especially liked Mizen Head, Beara Peninsula (our favorite), Sheep’s Head and the gorgeous beach on the Ring of Kerry at Derrynane. The towns of Schull, Skibbereen and Clonakilty and surrounding environs were also lovely. Visiting the Skibbereen Heritage Center telling of the Irish famine was very poignant, as was the visit to one of the graveyards near the town. Of note wonderful restaurants in Skibbereen: the Church and the Glebe.
The weather was mixed, painting a different vista each morning to wake up to. Early April however was a good time to visit as really pre- tourist season .... a great plus. Our time was too short to explore all this charming area had to offer so we certainly plan to continue to discover.
I had the best time. The house is perfect and in a beautiful location.
Thank you Breda. You are welcome anytime. Sean & Nora
it is like every year pure relaxation. A place to feel good and relax.
The cottage and surrounding views were exceptional. Nora and Sean were very helpful in explaining where everything was and how to operate the appliances. The cottage was fully equipped and the bottle of wine was unexpected but greatly appreciated. Beds were very comfortable and the place was very cozy. Unfortunately, the weather was poor. We had one full day of sunshine. The remainder of our week was cool and rainy. No matter, on those days we would sightsee and come home and build a fire. The surrounding villages of Goleen, Schull and Crookhaven had everything we needed. As recommended by our hosts, the restaurant, "Nottages" in Crookhaven was fabulous and affordable. We loved our stay at the cottage, during which time we met many lovely people in the villages.
Maison parfaite et propriétaires géniaux ! Allez y foncez!
The property is five miles from Mizen Head, the most south-westerly point in Ireland. In addition to the fog signal station located there, which is open to visitors, you will find a fascinating interpretive centre. Access to the original lighthouse keepers’ dwellings, is over the famous footbridge which spans a sea gorge at a height of 45 metres. Completed in 1909 and rebuilt in 2011, the bridge was the first reinforced concrete bridge in Ireland.
Swimming. About 3 miles away you will find the large expanse of Barley cove beach washed by the Atlantic Ocean where the breakers often attract surfers. Other more secluded beaches are also in the area.
