Beautiful 10 inch Ponderosa Pine log home located on Lake Nantahala, a lake with crystal clear water and gorgeous views. Three of the four bedrooms open to decks overlooking the lake. Lake Nantahala is one of the cleanest most pristine lakes in the USA and 85% of its shoreline is owned by the US National Forest Service. This means the lake is never crowded. Included in the rental is a kayak and a boat dock. This is a great home for relaxing and enjoying the lake views. The log home features four bedrooms and a sleeping loft. Beds include 1 king, 2 queen, and four single beds. The lake views from the great room, deck, and three bedrooms are beautiful and peaceful. This is a great place to spend your vacation!
Nearby attractions include trout fishing or whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, hiking on the Appalachian or Bartram Trails, or golf. We are about 90 minutes away from the Cherokee Indian Reservation and Casinos and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The cabin is about 40 minutes from the new Cherokee Casino opening in 2014 in Murphy, NC.
Lake Nantahala is a true diamond in the rough! At 3000 feet above sea level, the summers are cool and comfortable. You will probably want to use a blanket for sleeping, even in the summer. It is located between Andrews and Franklin, NC in Macon County. It is about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta, Asheville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. There are plenty of things to do in the area. The Nantahala River below Nantahala Dam is a world-famous delayed harvest trout stream. Fly fishers from all over the world come to the Nantahala. Kayaking, Canoeing and Rafting are available as well. The Nantahala River was the venue for kayaking in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Nantahala Lake is known for smallmouth bass, trout, walleye and it has even been stocked with salmon! The Appalachian Trail crosses Wayah Road about 8 miles from the house. The Bartram Trail is even closer. The rafting and kayaking put-in on the Nantahala River is about 15 miles from the cabin, with the takeout point being at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, downstream.
The house has lots of room for adults and kids to spread out and enjoy. There are three TVs with Atlanta stations, high speed internet and telephone. An added benefit is that your cell phone won't work here so you can finally get some rest and relaxation!
There is a boat dock and a gentle walk down to the dock from the house. The public ramp is less than a mile from the house. Pontoon boat rentals and gas are available at Lake's End Marina which also features a nice restaurant with some good down home cooking. Here are the comments left by a recent guest:
'This cabin is utterly breathtaking. It literally was one of the most beautiful places I've been in my life. A total of eight friends came from across the country (Florida, North Carolina & Illinois) to celebrate friends-giving together as a part of an annual tradition. Everyone was surprised at the beauty and elegance of the cabin. It was clean, well-kept and tidy. Doug was readily available to contact if needed but we still felt perfectly secluded in the mountains (which is what we were looking for). The cabin is on a private and safe road which is gated. While it takes a while to get up the mountain, it is totally worth it. This cabin it perfect for a long weekend or holiday. The space is very large and spacious. There is a main floor with a master, a basement with three roomy bedrooms & a loft upstairs with two beds. Great for children, families as well as younger adults. The kitchen is fully stocked & there's a dishwasher. Full laundry downstairs as well as 2.5 bathrooms. Last but not least, the view....I honestly can't say enough about the view. The lake is gorgeous. I couldn't ask for anything more calm & relaxing then waking up, drinking a cup of coffee and sitting by the large bay window that overlooks the lake. So private and soothing. You won't regret renting this home the puzzles are great.'

Doug and Phyllis Holt are the owners and builders of this house. Doug has developed several properties at Lake Nantahala, including Nantahala Harbor and his current project, Hidden Springs, located on the Nantahala River just below Nantahala Dam. Phyllis is a retired elementary school teacher. The live in Cumming, Georgia, about two hours from the cabin.
Doug purchased this house in 2001
This property has been a labor of love for Doug and Phyllis. We helped design the house and we just love Lake Nantahala and the surrounding area. It is so peaceful and quiet.
This house is the last house on the lake in the Nantahala Shores Subdivision, so it is secluded and has the added advantage of giving you the ability to observe wildlife and also the stars at night are incredible with no city lights to obscure your view.
We never left the house once we got there, until our vacation was over. This beautiful log cabin is so spacious, nice, clean and organized. The owners have provided most anything you might need for your stay. We did certainly get a workout coming back up from the lake, but no biggy. Mornings we enjoyed the deck with coffee, then down to the lake, late afternoons on the deck with a glass of wine enjoying the hummingbirds, the evening hours were spent working one of the many jigsaw puzzles in the house. Just a beautiful place to kick back and relax. As others have commented, there is no cell service, which was a nice break, but the wi-fi provided more than sufficient internet service, after all, this was a vacation. This trip there were only three of us. Cant wait to plan a trip with the whole family. Definitely room for a crowd.
The water is very clear and warmer than we expected. The cabin is beautiful and clean. I will have to workout next time to get ready for the steps down to the lake. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation, this is the place to go.
This property was nicely decorated and clean with a beautiful view of Lake Nantahala. The drive is curvy and interesting but well worth the challenge. The kitchen was well equipped and they provided two bar-b-ques for their guests use. The Lakes Inn Marina provided our pontoon and ski boat which were great and provided the kids and us with hours of fun. We would book this property again.
The town of Andrew is only 15-20 min away and provides you with a grocery store and most necessities. It also has some quaint shops and eateries right downtown. We ate at Mykala's and the food was great and the atmosphere was very friendly. There is also a winery right outside of town that was fun and has a band on Friday and Saturday nights.
The cabin was beautiful, very clean and well-maintained. The lake has so much to offer.....rope swing, tubing, waterfall hike, cliff jumping and so much more. Highly recommend renting a boat during your stay.
The only difficulty was with the bbq. We had a hard time getting it started. Other than that, it was a great experience.
This is the second time we stayed at this property. This is an outstanding log home. The home is clean, the beds are very comfortable, everything works, the view is fantastic. It is a lake front lot with great privacy. The house is in a gated community so you can feel secure. The community has a public boat landing. The house has a dock for swimming and boating. There is a deck on the main level which is great for meals outside, and there is a deck on the lower level as well. Plenty of space for parking. There is great hiking close by. If you are looking for a quiet big water lake in the middle of the mountains this is the place you will want to stay. I highly recommend this home. Will be back again.
Excellent views and access to the lake, as all the other reviews state. The owners are easy to work with, and quick to respond to any questions. We had both an active and relaxing vacation in this location! Boating, kayaking, swimming, white water rafting, hiking, biking, etc. The kitchen is well stocked with regard to utensils/dishes, but if you need something specific for a recipe (certain kind of pan, colander, sharp knives, etc.) you should consider bringing it with you.
There were a few aspects about this cabin that we found disappointing, and would have preferred to know about in advance.
A: No automatic ice maker. The owners prefer to leave it off, and recommend to you that you bring a bag of ice with you. Due to the remote location of this cabin, come prepared with enough ice to last several days as it takes a minimum of 15 minutes to get to any shops.
B. No trash service. This was especially disappointing for us to learn on our arrival in the cabin. With 10 people in the house we made a lot of trash. The instructions onsite tell you that you cannot leave trash on premises, and that you need to take it to one of two free dump sites, depending on the day. One is 20 minutes away and the other is 35 minutes away. I would have preferred to know this information in advance vs. learning upon our arrival. Taking trash to a dump was not a fun thing to have to do during our vacation.
C. But the biggest complaint of all is the Internet. One of the specific questions we asked before booking this cabin was about the internet. To quote the owner, "We have HughesNet Gen4 which is fast but not great for movies." It is in no way fast, (think worse than dial-up), and sometimes it simply did not work at all. It took many minutes to load a single page of a website or new emails, if it would load at all. Google maps would not work at all. It rained on one of the days we were there, which caused us to need to re-plan some activities. It was impossible for us to do from the house because the internet was so worthless. We had to drive 20 minutes to get to cell phone coverage before we could get the pages we needed to load so that we could rearrange our schedule. I understand that this is a getaway/unplugged location, but we asked specifically about the internet in advance. If we had known the true nature of the service, we might have reconsidered booking this cabin.
