About the property

Chalet, 8 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 17)

DECEMBER 13, 2016 UPDATE: THANKFULLY, OUR CHALET AND THE SURROUNDING AREA WERE NOT IMPACTED BY THE RECENT FIRES. THE NEAREST AREAS AFFECTED ARE APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES AWAY. PLEASE KEEP THOSE LESS FORTUNATE IN YOUR THOUGHTS. 8 bedroom, 5 bath chalet at 3,000 feet on Ski Mountain in Gatlinburg's Chalet Village. Convenient location just off Ski Mountain Road is 3.0 miles down the mountain to shopping, dining and attractions in downtown Gatlinburg and 0.5 miles up to Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort, an all season resort. The chalet is within walking distance to Chalet Village Owner's Club which offers guest privileges to the large swimming pool, tennis courts and game room (closed in winter). The Owner's Club is also a staging point for the available 5 minute shuttle ride to Ober Gatlinburg for downhill skiing, snow tubing and ice skating in winter months when parking at the resort is at a premium.

The chalet's 'roundabout' style is great for group gatherings with a stone fireplace in the center of the main level. Also on the main level is a full kitchen, dining area (table with seating for 12), bar (seating for 4), pool table, living area, 1 bedroom, 1 bath and laundry/pantry. Ground floor parking just a few steps away makes for easy in and out to the chalet.

Upstairs is a total of 7 bedrooms, comprised of 3 kings, 2 queens, 1 day bed with popup trundle (creating a king equivalent) and 1 bunk bedroom (with trundle), in addition to 4 baths. Each upstairs bedroom has a 32 inch flat screen TV and access to the wraparound deck. One of the bathrooms is private, while the remaining others are each shared between two bedrooms with separate access for privacy.

The chalet is fully furnished with all linens and utensils. Outside is a six person hot tub, picnic table, charcoal grill and large supply of firewood. Central heat and air, high capacity water heater, high speed internet, wireless internet, cable and phone service insure a comfortable and convenient stay. The chalet has a limited mountain/wooded view and is five minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Rates are $250 per night (except major holidays) with a two night minimum and $200 cleaning fee plus tax. Watch for our specials. We are pet friendly, and may charge an additional fee in certain circumstances. No smoking is allowed inside the chalet.

Directions: Hwy 441 through Gatlinburg to stop light #10 (last stop light before National Park Boundary - turn right onto Ski Mountain Road and proceed 2.6 miles. Turn left onto South Baden Drive (last left before lower parking area for Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort)and proceed 0.25 miles to chalet on left (blue roof).

About The Owner

We live in Knoxville, 45 minutes away and make frequent trips to enjoy the cabin and insure maintenance and cleaning are up to standard.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 2002

Why The Owner chose Gatlinburg

As natives of East Tennessee, our family has made countless trips to the Smokies, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge over the years. When we were finally in a position to purchase an investment property that we would also hopefully be able to use occassionally, the choice was easy. There's something for everyone, and with a full four seasons the scenery is everchanging and always beautiful.

What makes this chalet unique

Although we are only 45 minutes away, taking the day trip aspect out of the picture and staying overnight is so much more relaxing, and always an adventure with our kids. The downstairs living area promotes family gathering and we always enjoy the center fireplace and large kitchen table. We've also found the location makes for a great way to have reunions with old friends now living out of town. The central location of the cabin is ideal, and we are literally minutes away from all the area has to offer.

We stayed 4 nights and we had a great time!

  • 4 of 5

It's a decent property for a big group like ours, plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms for 6 families. The owner is especially nice and helpful all the times. Would highly recommend.

Bike trip 2016

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place to stay for the 6 couples and 2 singles we had for our 2016 fall motorcycle trip. there was plently of room for all of us and plenty of parking for our bikes and a truck with a trailer. the parking is paved as well which with bikes is important. the location could not have been better for us since we were not to interested in the city we just wanted to get out for the day to ride out of traffic. right down ski mountain road to the last light in gatlinburg and were out so easy. Really did not need to bring much with us as most things needed were supplied.

Now for the bad parts. The house could use some cosmetic repairs, nothing that affected are stay at all just looks like some poor repair work done inside and out which takes away from the beauty of the great room and all the stone work. again none of it affected our stay whatsoever. The coffee maker supplied did not work and when contacted Michale said there was another which there was but the pot did not fit so we had to make cups which was ok but more work. We did not use the hot tub as it did have an odor to it and the jets when turned on were at garden hose force at best. probably ok for little kids but dissapointing to adults. A can opener would also be a nice addition to the utility drawer. the driveway is steep but that is very common in the area.

Overall we had a great stay and if we were to be back in the area we would stay here again without thinking twice. the price was right and the location was perfect. we did see a bear walking up the street like he owned the place but none to close to the house.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and found our chalet to be as convenient and suitable to large groups as we always have! I'm very sorry for the inconvenience with the coffee makers, and we have replaced both the on counter and "spare" with new ones. I had not previously heard about the hot tub concern, and would have sent someone to check had I known, but can assure you the water is changed completely and new chemicals applied prior to each new guest arrival. A replacement for the missing can opener has also been added. We always welcome feedback from guests, and address every concern possible. Please do return and we hope to see you again!
