Enjoyed our stay
Great location with great view! Communication with the owners was great - very responsive. Easy check-in even with our late arrival. Olivia and Luis were very accommodating. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Not enough time spent in Old San Juan
Stayed a few nights in the condo pre-cruise out of San Juan. Condo was as advertised, not a lot of frills but everything you would need for some sleep before heading out in the morning. If you’re sitting in the room all day, you aren’t on vacation!
View of Bay was awesome, and I could’ve stared at the water and boats all day long. Location was great because we were far enough from the parties in town that we barely heard the weekend noise, yet close enough for a quick walk to the middle of the action. No AC but not too much of a problem. As long as we could cool down bedroom to sleep, we were good. It is also high enough, 4th floor, and laid out in a way that you could get the cross breeze when you opened up shuttered doors.
Everything is nearby, CVS which we hit as soon as we got there for coffee in the mornings, there’s even a Marshall’s in case your husband forgets his belt that he just bought for the trip, at home.
You also HAVE to eat at Raices! Mofongo with skirt steak, yum!
Olivia was AWESOME! She responded quickly to every email, question, request made leading up to the trip - and there were a lot of them! Very easy to work with, which I appreciated Thank you for your patience!
She and her father recommended places to eat and visit, as well as someone to use as a driver because we wanted to golf in Dorado. David was awesome and we used him 3 times. I also learned a new word from him, ‘tranquillo’. As in we were already checked out, it’s pouring rain and he’s coming, LOL!
And don’t forget Maria, their assistant who met us the first night for a late check in. I was greeted with a big hug which was warmly received after a 12-hour travel day!
I would definitely use Olivia and Luis’ condo again!
3 Nights in Old San Juan
We really enjoyed our stay in Old San Juan. Olivia's place was perfect. Great views of the harbor. A great breeze through the apartment, didn't even need the A/C in the bedroom one of the nights. The apartment is within walking distance of everything - and we walked everywhere - yet far enough away to be peaceful in the evening.
Luis was a gracious host upon our arrival. Showed and explained everything we needed to know.
We definitely recommend this place!!
Amazing condo walking distance to everything.
I own a vacation rental company and am super picky. I would stay in this condo anytime! Olivia and Luis were the best hosts ever. The condo is clean, the doors open up to the port and you get this wonderful breeze through the condo. The balcony was ideal to watch the ships come in. I loved walking into town for coffee and dinner each day. Parking is right next door and made getting in and out of town very convenient. A must stay!!
Exactly What We Wanted
My wife and I just returned from Puerto Rico last night from an incredible five day stay in Old San Juan. It was our first time renting a VRBO and I would do so without hesitation moving forward, especially from Olivia, the owner of the apartment we rented from in Puerto Rico.
When my wife and myself travel we focus on activities outside of our room, or in this case a rental property. That being said the lion's share of our budget is relegated to dining out, shopping and sightseeing adventures. While we absolutely will not stay in a dive of any sort or an unsafe location, we are not looking to pay Waldorf or Ritz prices to simply sleep in a room and leave for the day first thing in the morning and return late in the evening. We travel to enjoy local culture, not what we can find just down the street in our hometown. Olivia's rental unit was ideal for this type of vacation. Her rental properties are located just off the bay in Old San Juan and the views are stunning. The breeze through her apartment is delightful and the AC unit in the bedroom is more than adequate and not irritatingly noisy. The furniture in the pictures she posted are exactly what can be expected and not uncomfortable by any means. The bed is firm, but not too firm.
The apartment is located in walking distance to a variety of great restaurants, bars and shops of all sorts. Although, I highly recommend La Casita de Rones for truly incredible craft rum cocktails, which is about three hundred yards from the apartment.
As for safety issues, the apartment literally overlooks the US Customs and US Coastguard facilities in Old San Juan and there is a constant police presence in the area. The cruise ships that visit Puerto Rico dock just down the street from the apartment and it is apparent that the local government takes safety seriously in this area.
My biggest compliment to Olivia is this: a water main broke while we in Old San Juan, basically leaving the whole island whithout water on an intermittent basis for two days. Olivia immediately offered to let us move to a different location and give us a refund for the nights we would not be staying with her. She also gave us a discount on the room for the days we were affected by this issue, and we did not ask her to do so. I wonder if the hotels in Old San Juan would have offered the same for their guests.
This was our second trip to Old San Juan in under a year. US based hotel last trip, VRBO this trip. VRBO wins hands down.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Really helpful hosts.
Thank you for choosing our apartment for your trip to Old San Juan. We're so happy to know you enjoyed your stay and we would be very happy to host you again!
Old San Juan has a very vibrant night life. There are a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from which stay open relatively late. Some streets in Old San Juan tend to be noisy because of this, but La Puntilla is located on a quiet, securely guarded dead-end street which allows for restful nights.
Other city beaches such as Condado Beach, Ocean Park and Isla Verde are about a 15 minute drive and are also accessible by bus.
Enjoy Puerto Rico's bounty of natural wonders all within driving distance of Old San Juan, such as El Yunque National Rain Forest where you will find many hiking trails and waterfalls; Puerto Rico's caves, Las Cuevas de Camuy, one of the largest cave systems in the world (tours are available); and much, much more.
