Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 18 staying in this house and it was perfect! Amazing house, nice kitchen, nice living room. No cell phone service but it was great, the perfect getaway! Bob was good with communication, really helpful with any questions we had. Everything was perfect.

What a house and view! Check the unique aspects to make sure it's right for you though

  • 4 of 5

Bob's place was wonderful. Very unique and memorable location. We stayed three nights and then another three nights at another home near Yosemite and Bob's place definitely was the highlight!

The plusses:

- Huge open living space - living room, kitchen, outdoors area - just wonderful!

- Views and unique perch above the hills - amazing!

- Secluded, but yet right at the entrance to Sequoia park and quick 10 min drive door to door to small downtown

- Clean house, original design and huge comfy beds

The issues:

-we rented the home but ended up not having access to the middle bedroom. This wasn't necessarily clear and mentioned to us as we walked in. Ended up being an issue due to the second bullet below,

- the house is basically a huge open cabin, with only one bedroom room, the master suite with 3 huge beds, having a door that shuts - unless you proactively rent the other room. The other sleeping area is at the other side of the house and is open to the downstairs and hall way. This room has 4 huge beds, but little privacy and so when we needed to put a couple kids to bed it caused us to have to put them in the master bedroom, then move them back once asleep. Had we had the other room, we could have had them in a room with a door. The other challenge with the open space sleeping area was that the A/C did not cool the area down sufficiently. This must be a recognized issue as there are two, HUGE fans bolted to the wall that were constantly on. Helped a bit during the night but not enough - we were very hot. Also felt like we were sleeping in a loud B52 bomber! Finally, privacy for changing etc is a bit challenging.

- No washer / dryer

- A/C fixed at 77 - too hot in July heat

- Small things make a difference: No paper towels, sponge for the sink - with the remote nature of the home, it was a pain to have to drive down for these basics. When you rent a home of this nature, these details make it easier for guests

- the check in was a bit stressful with all the "DON"T's" - we also rent our home and understand the legal details that need to be reviewed, but we felt that we were signing our life away and, well, it was a bit too much

-The long dirt road to the house was fine, but some were not comfortable making the quick trip down the hill driving - it's gets narrow at times - but hey, it was part of the charm

-Slow wifi - Bob warned us about this so it was not a surprise, but just fyi

- bring salt, pepper and all spices

We would stay again!

Beautiful views but not so good customer service

  • 1 of 5

We spent two nights at this property in early June. The house is spacious and the views are amazing and the three families in our party had a comfortable stay. I would suggest bringing your own toilet paper and soap/shampoo etc if you have a large group - there was not enough stocked when we stayed here.

The real trouble started after the stay was done. When I reached the owner for the refund of the deposit, he told me one of the beds had been moved and the bracket was bent and he would have to get an estimate for the damage (yes, section 29 of the renter's agreement says no rearranging of furniture is allowed and since we had little kids, we needed to put two beds next to each other but this was a very simple process and there was definitely no damage done - I never received any pictures of the damage in spite of requesting it). In any case, a few days later he wrote back saying the cost of repair was minimal and that the refund was on its way from his bank. Then four days after that, he sent an e-mail saying they had discovered a broken chair and accused me or hiding it out of sight to cover the damage - the damage was clearly not caused by us and was likely an earlier renter and just hadn't been discovered till our stay and so we got blamed for it. In any case, the owner claimed that the chair was part of a set and it could cost a lot of money and there may or may not be a refund of the deposit. It has now been three weeks since our stay and I still don't have an estimate of the damage so I could get it refunded from the insurance company nor of course has the deposit returned. I now have complaints filed and am still waiting for resolution.

Great way to spend a weekend

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a nice, private cabin away from the Labor Day crowds, and we couldn't have asked for more. This house is fantastic for larger groups, especially if you're looking for a place with plenty of space, both inside and out. We traveled with a group of 8 and could easily have doubled that comfortably. The views from the western balcony were spectacular, the private road leading from the highway to the cabin (and then the cabin to the reservoir up top) turned into our little private hiking path, the river down at the base was a great place to spend a hot day and all of the amenities in the cabin itself were in great shape. We went into the park on the third day, but only because we thought it'd be weird to get that close and not go in - we could have easily spent the whole weekend in the house. All in all, if you're looking for a place that's a little more adventurous and a little more private, this is the place you want.

Fantastic Vacation House For Large Group

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 14 stayed comfortably at this large Mountain House Lodge for a week while visiting Sequoia National Park. The driveway leading to the house is literally in sight of the park entrance. Everyone had their own bed and we stayed cool, even when the temps outside rose above 100 degrees. There is a fantastic swimming hole in the river at the base of the driveway and we swam there every day. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend to others.

South Louisiana

Great lodge...breathtaking views from every room

  • 5 of 5

Just traveled from south Louisiana to visit Sequoia national park and Kings canyon. Stayed here for a week... Lodge was clean, beautiful and unique in every way, and the views from the lodge are spectacular from every room, and in every direction....hated to leave the lodge to "site see" the parks. Definitely the best view in the valley!!!! Modern everything, free WiFi (very useful with day trip planning), Direct TV, and the kitchen / stove/ oven was amazing....pack enough food for the week and you'd never have to leave the cabin. Great swimming hole just inside the Park can see it from the Den window. Perfect location for visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon...can't get any closer as you can see the park gates from the lodge. Owners were super nice and accommodating... Would definitely stay here again and recommend to my family and friends.

The "Lodge" is a Vacation Rental and NOT a bed and breakfast. Therefore, we do not furnish condiments or other food type items. We recommend bringing ice and water. Although the "Lodge" has water that is tested and safe to drink or cook with, some are not use to the taste of water from a mountain spring fed well, mostly because it has no chemical additives.
