Cliff and Mary Lou Gardner
About Cliff and Mary Lou Gardner
Mary Lou was born and raised in Yosemite Valley, and knows the Park extremely well. Cliff is a retired aerospace project manager. Mary Lou and Cliff were married in Yosemite in 1966. They retired to the property in 1997. The property the cottage is on was bought by Mary Lou's parents in 1959. Mary Lou and Cliff took over the property in 1989, and planted the first 5 acres of the vineyard in 1992. They retired to the property in 1997, and built a house in the middle of the vineyard. They have used the cottage as a guest house every since. Now they have decided to share this special place with others. They sell all of their grapes, except enough to make a couple barrels each year.
Why Cliff and Mary Lou Gardner chose Mariposa
We have spent weekends and vacations in this cottage since we were married. Mary Lou's parents built a house on the adjoining property and retired there in 1971. All four of our children first stayed in it when they are 6 to 8 weeks of age. It was a very special place to visit Grandma and Grandpa. When Mary Lou's parents had the property, they raised a few head of cattle, so the grandchildren got to help with the roundup and branding. Now they help us make our wine, including stomping the grapes! Our Grands think that is great fun.

Everything about our stay at the cottage was absolutely wonderful. Cliff & Mary Lou were genuinely welcoming and provided so many thoughtful details. Perfect for our family as a home base for exploring Yosemite. The vineyard property is beautiful and could not have been more relaxing. I felt a perfect mix of having our own space to spread out, relax, and play (which our 3-year-old greatly enjoyed) all while having diligent and caring owners nearby. Awesome experience with wonderful memories.
Great place to stay in Mariposa!
We stayed in this quaint little cottage over a weekend trip to see Yosemite National Park.
Although we didn’t get a chance to meet the owners, Cliff and Mary Lou left a bottle of wine, scones, butter, jam and fresh strawberries for us to enjoy. So thoughtful!
The cottage is adorable. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed and we grilled one evening on the back deck. We actually spent that day just relaxing at the cottage!
The drive to Yosemite is a little over an hour, but was worth it.
Beautiful pastoral experience
We had an amazing experience staying at the cottage. The pictures and description of the cottage were a perfect depiction. We had a lovely drive to Yosemite each day and were able to relax in this lovely home in the evening. The hosts were generous with their suggestions, directions and history of the surrounding area. We would definitely stay in the cottage again if returning to the area.
Thanks for staying at our cottage. We were happy to meet you, and that you had a great holiday.
What a great stay. The hosts could not be any nicer. What a lovely couple. The location is perfect for entry into both the valley and south entrance. The property is adorable. We highly recommend it.
Good base camp for Yosemite
We stayed at the property May 7 - 11, 2019. When we arrived, there was the traditional bottle of wine, scones, butter, and apricot jam waiting. I enjoyed the scones at breakfast during our stay, and they were quite good. The accommodations were more than needed for the two of us, but it was nice to have the spare bedroom across from the master to use for our suitcases and gear room. We traveled to Yosemite every day, and it was just under an hour to get to the valley from the house. On our way to the house, we stocked up on food for our stay and used the kitchen to make breakfast and lunch each day, and it had everything we needed. It was nice to have the grounds to walk in the evening with a glass of wine/beer, and the hummingbirds provided an endless source of entertainment. The only inconvenience I can think of is that it might be a challenge to find an electrical outlet at times, but given that the house was electrified well after it was built, it is understandable. The internet was fine for our use. Would definitely recommend to someone looking for a place to stay near Yosemite. We also appreciated having the town nearby for restaurants and gas when needed.
We are glad you enjoyed staying in our cottage while visiting Yosemite. There are a fair number of outlets in the living and dining room, just a couple in the two “larger” bedrooms, one in the single bedroom.
Our trip to Yosemite
We truly enjoyed our stay here! The cottage was perfect for us. Very clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The personal touches of fresh flowers, biscuits, apricot jam, and strawberries were welcoming and delicious! Thank you for sharing your cottage with us! Also, the location was great to travel to the different areas of the park.
