Another lovely week at the villa
We have visited several times previously and were delighted to find that there was a week available for us this year. The villa is lovely and the surrounding villages and the beaches nearby make this the perfect place to stay for a relaxing break.
The perfect tuscan retreat
This place was just wonderful. We were two families, 4 adults and 4 kids aged 4-7, but this place could easily accomodate a 3rd family. Podere dei venti has everything you could ask for. We never felt the need for neither A/C or sea view since there was always a breeze and the views of the tuscan hills and adjecent vineyard were so amazing. The place was very clean and the owner welcomed us with a nice welcome basket of local wine and produce. Since the location is in the country side, I suggest you bring a car. I'm not sure how much a taxi fare from Grossetto would cost but probably around 25-30 Euros.
Both Grossetto and the small surrounding villages were very nice. And the amazing and beautiful Siena is only an hour drive north.
We also visited an amazing winery named Petra, an hour northwest. They produce some of the best supertuscan and italian wines and are a long standing favorite winery of mine. But don't miss out on the nearby "La Selva" bio-producer, only 5-10 minutes from the house. They make some great products and wines.
The beach was a 20-25 minute drive away. The sea was shallow and very family friendly.
Higly reccomended !
A very special holiday in a beautiful place
We had the most amazing holiday in this beautiful villa. Stunning landscape and sunsets on the veranda every night. Fun and laughter in the pool. Pizza from the outside pizza oven. Brilliant days out to Rome, Sienna, the islands and nearby beaches and villages. Easy access to Grosseto for supermarkets, trains etc. Even an amazing meteor shower thrown in for good measure! The house is designed to make you feel at home straight away and is extremely comfortable.
We had the best holiday and left with some wonderful memories of a special time in a beautiful place!
This was a perfect villa and location for a family holiday. When they weren't on the beach, which is 15 mins away, the children were in the excellent pool. Eating barbecued meals on the verandah watching the sun go down across wonderful views will always be a memory.
The villa itself is very well appointed and clean with plenty of space.
July 2015 Family Holiday
My family of 7 adults, a toddler and a baby had a fantastic week staying at Podere dei Venti in July 2015.
Susan, the owner, was very helpful providing prompt answers to our questions before booking and Stefania had the place spotless for us on arrival.
The location is fantastic, very much a rural escape with fantastic views of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The nearby towns of Montiano and Magliano are both charming with excellent restaurants. The vineyards all around sell good, cheap local wine.
The house itself was spacious, well equipped and all the rooms were ensuite. The bbq, pizza oven and pool area were all great but the highlight for me was sitting out on the front terrace, looking over the valley.
I would not hesitate in recommending a stay at Podere dei Venti and hope top do so again myself in the future.
A couple of specific things to mention:
- the location is very rural and I would not want to visit without a car
- a real plus for us (with a toddler) was that the pool area is completely fenced off from the outside
- the property does not have air con. anyone who struggles with the heat probably shouldn't be visiting Italy in July/August anyway and the fans do help but it was still very warm at night
Our stay at Podere dei Venti was exactly what we had hoped it would be. From the tree lined drive up the hill to the views across olive groves and farm land, the villa is a Tuscan dream.
We stayed with in a group with 6 adults and 5 children and there was plenty of room for everyone. The bedrooms are a good size and the en-suite bathrooms essential with 11 people.
The facilities are excellent, with a very well equipped kitchen, utility room and a comfy lounge that was generally only used by the children when the heat outside was too great for staying in the pool.
The pool, pool house and pool side seating area were brilliant, with enough seating for all and plenty of towels provided. The bathroom that is accessible from both the pool and inside was an inspired idea that saved the house from wet children.
We visited a local beach about 15 minutes away and the hilltop towns of Magliano and Montiano. To be honest we spent most of the time relaxing in the villa, but the local supermarket was only a short drive so we were well stocked.
We visited Siena on our last day which was definitely worth the trip, a lovely town with beautiful buildings and plenty of tourists!
All in all, a five star experience I would definitely recommend.
Podere dei Venti is a secluded farmhouse in the Maremma area of Southern Tuscany, modernised in 2003, with a private swimming pool and a boule court in the garden. It is10 minutes drive from the coast which has beautiful sandy beaches, shallow and suitable for small children. Nearby is the Maremma National Park with walking, guided walks, birdwatching. Local sightseeing opportunities include the medieval hilltop villages of Montiano, Magliano and Pitigliano, while Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole have busy harbours and access to miles of sandy beach. Local vineyards offer conducted tours, wine-tasting and buying opportunities. There is a wide variety of good local restaurants.
Nearby in Talamone is a windsurfing school, kitesurfing, scuba diving and boat trips including diving and snorkelling on the underwater reef of the nautical Parco National dell’Arcipelago Toscana.
For culture, the Villa is 60 minutes drive from Sienna, 90 minutes drive from either Pisa or Rome and 2 hours drive to Florence. Nearby Grosseto has excellent train links to all.
