Welcome to beautiful South Bavaria! We offer a luxurious residence in a historical building constructed in the year 1900. Our castle, called Grafenburg, is located in the scenic Bavarian village of Oberaudorf, right on the Bavarian-Austrian border. Its location is more than spectacular: on the South side you have an unobstructed view to the impressive scenery of the Austrian Alps (Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser) and the Bavarian and Austrian Inn valley. On the backside of the building you find an idyllic mountain lake. Despite of this unique location the center of Oberaudorf where you can buy everyday commodities is in walking distance.
The Autobahn (highway) A93, exit Oberaudorf, is only 3 minutes away. The distance to Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Kitzbühel is only 80 km (50 miles)
Our spacious and very quiet Residence Zahmer Kaiser (136 qm, 1463 sq.ft.) is located on the 2nd floor of the historical building Grafenburg (there is an elevator).
In the residence there is a huge combined living/dining room that leads out onto two wonderful South facing balconies, with the most spectacular views of the Inn Valley and the Austrian Alps. The dining room is connected to a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and top German appliances from Siemens, double fridge with ice maker/crusher, oven, ceramic glass cooktop, exhaust hood, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric juicer, filter coffee machine. The master bedroom has a king bed and an en-suite bath with bathtub and separate shower, two sinks and a toilet. This bedroom is equipped with a minibar. From these two rooms you look out to our lake Luegsteinsee. The 2nd bedroom has two beds that can be separate or together. The bathroom is also en-suite. This bathroom has a shower, two sinks, toilet and washing machine with dryer. From this bedroom and bathroom you have the spectacular view to the Alps. All the rooms are connected via a wide open hallway. All rooms have satellite TV with flat screens and wireless internet. For your enjoyment we also provide a selection of DVDs (in different languages), CDs, books and games.
In the ground floor of Grafenburg Castle you find a French champagne bar where you can enjoy and buy exquisite French champagne, also organic French champagne.
The distance to Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Kitzbühel is only 80 km (50 miles), so you can easily access the famous Salzburg Festival, Munich with the Oktoberfest, its prestigious museums and art galleries, the opera house, endless shoppping in Maximilianstrasse. The famous castles of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee can also easily be reached.
For the skiers: you can ski in Oberaudorf in the ski areas Sudelfeld and Hocheck, by the way the longest floodlit ski slope of Germany can be found here. The biggest Austrian ski area, Skiwelt Austria is only 25 minutes away and world famous Kitzbühel around 45 minutes. In summer you can ski on the glacier in Hintertux/Austria.
For the golfers: you find an abundance of golf courses within half an hour distance, e.g. the golf course Wilder Kaiser in Ellmau/Austria with 27 holes.
For the gourmets: close by you can enjoy the fine cuisine of 3 star chef Heinz Winkler at the Residenz Heinz Winkler in Aschau as well as of 2 star chef Christian Jürgens at the beautiful Seehotel Überfahrt in Rottach-Egern.

A mountain paradise
One cannot but wonder at the post card views of the Grafenburg Castle. Our apartment was very clean, full of light, stylishly furnished and well appointed with all the necessary items for bathroom, kitchen and laundry. The owner/manager has been very generous with her time and advice. During our 10 day holiday, we enjoyed walking around the nearby lake, attending a magnificent concert at Erl Music Festival and eating delicious cakes from Luckner Cafe Conditorei . We would strongly recommend this property to friends and relatives back in Australia.
Unique and gorgeous mountain hideaway!!!
As soon as we saw the Castle Grafenburg listing on vrbo, we knew it was the ideal location for exploring Bavaria. We certainly do not regret acting on our first impression!
Our arrival in Oberaudorf was complicated by seriously long flight delays and a miscommunication on our part regarding the reservation dates. However, Peter, the Guest Services Manager, was very understanding and accommodating. His positive attitude about the inconvenience and his willingness to adapt made our first night in Germany much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise!
The castle itself is beautifully decorated and very private. The view from the balcony is nothing less than jaw dropping. My favorite moments were coffee on that balcony soaking up the village below and the mountains in the distance.
The central location between Munich and Salzburg was perfect for daily road trips through the region, including a day in each of those cities and one at King Ludwig's castles.
The village itself is charming and has everything needed for a pleasant stay. We especially loved breakfast at Cafe Konditorei Luckner and dinner at Gasthaus Alpenrose.
If we're ever fortunate enough to return to Bavaria, Castle Grafenburg will be at the top of our list of potential rentals!
Treasure in Bavaria/Tirol
Our flat on the second floor of this historical building was a gem. The flat is spacious with two bedrooms each with a bathroom (one is across a hallway to the bedroom and one ensuite). The views across the Inn River valley toward the Alps is spectacular. The kitchen is fully equipped and supplied. We made breakfast each morning and a snack on arrival back from our car travels. The very large dining table is a natural place for planning the next day's adventures. We used this as our base of travel in Bavaria and to Salzburg and the Tirol. There is covered parking at the site. Access to train to Munich is easy from Oberaudorf (an hour away). Communication and support from the renter and owner were excellent. Consider it for your trip to southeastern Bavaria.
Fabulous Property. Lovely Area, Exactly as Advertised
We've used VRBO quite a bit to rent homes and apartments for holidays. This property is lovely and exactly as depicted in the description and pictures. The view from the balcony is spectacular. The residence is spacious and nicely appointed with everything one needs should you wish to cook a gourmet meal, have a wine tasting or simply relax on the balcony with a beer or glass of wine. Furnishings and appliances all top of the line. The town is a short distance away by foot or vehicle. There are a couple grocers and small shops close should you wish to cook at home or plenty of restaurants in town and nearby. We used this as a base and then took the train to Munich and Salzburg and other places. We also drove to Kufstein and Neuschwanstein which were both lovely. The property owner/manager were very easy to deal with and met us at the property upon arrival. We really enjoyed our stay here and would gladly rent this property again. We really enjoyed staying here.
What a hideaway! Quiet and well run.
My wife and I took her parents on a trip for their 50th wedding anniversary this past September. One of the 3 cities we were visiting was Munich, because of Oktoberfest. Since my Father-in-Law isn't a big fan of crowds (I know... so we took him to Oktoberfest...LOL), we decided to search outside of the city for a more peaceful location. We found that and more! Grafenburg Castle was the perfect place for our trip. It was close to Munich and Salzburg and the village itself is very quaint with delicious restaurants and great shops.
Best of all, it was a huge success with my In-Laws. The apartment was well furnished, very clean, quite spacious for 4 and you just can't beat the location. What made the stay more enjoyable was the professional and very personal service that was offered by both the Owner and her staff. The young man who checked us in was very wonderful, gave us a quick tour, left us all his contact information and offered his services night or day.
I can't wait to go back.
Stunning rental in the Alps
If you have read the previous reviews and ratings, then it would be superfluous to add to the excellent feedback and very positive comments of others who have stayed here. What distinguished our experience in conjunction with the previous reviews, was the excellent service we received form the owners as well as the Guest Relations Manager. They bring the extra touch that makes staying here truly memorable.
Otherwise, the superb view and location allowed us to combine relaxation with an easy access to all the nearby towns and activities listed.
