This is a long over due review. We departed from the property September 9 after a fabulous two weeks of seclusion on the coast. The house, the amenities, grounds, location, the environment were all perfection. We felt as if we were in our own home with all its comforts and warmth. The owner was wonderful to work with by email and there was a very helpful local caretaker. if you seek a perfect location in this part of Maine and idyllic seclusion … yet the convenience of a lobster shop a ten minute drive away … this is the place. We look forward to returning!
WOW! So 4 of our guys need a place to stay near the shipyard. We booked this place for a week. The guys LOVED not being in a motel or B& B and cooked together every night. They lived the comfort of the house and checking out the property. They went down to the shoreline and got muscles for dinner. They thank you Jane profusely for allowing them to enjoy your amazing home!
Jane's home is beautiful and was perfect for two different types of groups- a group of colleagues gathering for a meeting, and a family gathering. We fell in love with the place and ended up renting another week because we couldn't bear to leave! The location is spectacular- with a view to the sparkling ocean from almost everywhere in the house, whether you're eating breakfast, sitting by the fire, or lying in bed! There's a wonderful deck and the grounds are magical- trails through the woods, access to the ocean, beautiful plantings, driftwood sculptures, secret ladders, mossy glades- it was like being in a fairyland! The house is perfectly laid out- with an amazing kitchen and common area, a wonderful fireplace, beautiful wood paneling, and interesting artifacts and art throughout. We had fun watching the full moon through the telescope, watching the sunset over the ocean every night, exploring the woods, walking to the cute local coffee shop and gourmet food store in the mornings, walking down the road to the beautiful grounds of the Wooden Boat School, watching videos, toasting marshmallows in the fireplace, cooking wonderful meals and eating them on the beautiful porch. The area is very private, but doesn't feel isolated because the house and the grounds have been so obviously loved for many generations. It's really a magical spot and it was perfect for a large group- everyone got their own space, but it was easy to all be together, too. There was plenty of hot water for showers and baths, and we were able to do laundry. Jane was super communicative and easygoing- she was wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend the property to anyone interested in a magnificent spot in a beautiful area of the Maine coast!
My family and I were having a difficult time finding a place that could fit all of us and still be near Brooklin Maine. This place was great. The house is beautiful, the grounds are amazing, the view is out of this world and Jane and her cousin (who has the next house over) could not have been nicer. The cabin was great for the kids and the parking was ample. The kitchen is wonderful to work in and eating at the table is simply lovely, shoot just sitting there doing a crossword puzzle watching the ospreys and sailboats is well, I wish I were there now. The water access for kayaks is not the greatest, but with a little more attention to the tide tables we worked it out and the kayaking up and down the reach was fantastic. Oh, did I mention the deck, wow! I will definitely be coming back here.
Brooklin is the home of The Wooden Boat School, Brooklin Boat Yard (designer and builder of yachts), Center Harbor Yacht Club and the Haven Colony. There is a well-equipped General Store, a library, the Brooklin Inn, and several shops which feature local artists and potters. 15 miles north on the peninsula is the town of Blue Hill with more shops, galleries and excellent restaurants. About 40 miles further east is Ellsworth, the gateway to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Across Eggemoggin Reach, via a beautiful suspension bridge, is Deer Isle known for its many artists and the town of Stonington.
