About the property

A family friendly self catering villa with large gardens, tennis and pool

The holiday house is a restored country house, parts of which date back to the 14th and 16th centuries. It is now fully restored keeping as many of the old and original features as are compatible with modern living. This holiday home offers plenty of space for groups or families and is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There are large gardens to the front and back of the property as well as tennis court and fully enclosed swimming pool. The surrounding area is young forest with walkways and a lake for fishing or spotting wildlife such as deer, boar, storks and so much more. There are a host of activities to do in the area ranging from horse riding, golf, canoeing or cycling along the River Mayenne (85km) to name but a few.

There is a family (2 adults, 2 children) living in an annexe to one side of the property, they look after the property but you have full use of the gardens, pool (1000 - 1800), tennis court, forests etc. They have their own garden area and so will not encroach on your privacy during your stay. Should you need assistance during your stay please feel free to ask them.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all had a brilliant time at La Gilardiere, Georgie absolutely loved it and said that she was "so sad to go home!". Your mother is so kind and helpful always and we are all extremely comfortable and relaxed. I've given your details to 2 colleagues at work since we got home!

We don't know our plans for next summer as I said before but we have promised Cian that we will be back "some day". The holiday this year and last year at your house were just great.

A beautiful property and peaceful setting.

  • 5 of 5

This property looked great on the listing and was even better than we anticipated, the bedrooms and kitchen facilities all being more spacious than we anticipated. Marie and Simon were really welcoming, friendly and helpful and we had an absolutely fantastic week. We didn't leave the property much as with 11 children aged 10 and under the pool and games room were the priorities, and there was lots of space for all of us to relax and enjoy just being together in the sunshine and lovely surroundings. A great place for a large group holiday, I hope we get to go back one day!

Excellent place to stay. recomend it.

  • 5 of 5

All five families (21in total) have had a fantastic time. The house is amazing, well equipped and very homely. The pool was a great hit with all of us especially the children and the games room provided us with much entertainment. The bedrooms and kitchen facilities were all more spacious than we anticipated. There was lots of space for all of us to relax and enjoy just being together in the sunshine and lovely surroundings. A great place for a large group on holiday.

We didn't venture out much except for market day in Chateau Gontier, one evening meal out and most mornings there was an early morning drive to the local shop for croissant’s and bread.

Marie and Simon were really welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Would definitely come back and recommend this house.

Absolutely Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Farmhouse in June with family, 15 of us in total. The farmhouse itself is spacious and very well layed out especially if your holidaying with other families / couples. All the rooms are finished to a high standard. The facilities were great for both adults and children and lots of outdoor space for the little ones to run around. Most days we were in and around the pool area but within a short drive from the farmhouse there are supermarkets, shops, Restaurants, local markets etc.. We all had a lovely time and would definitely reccommend to others who are looking for an escape away from it all but still with plenty to do on the doorstep. The owners of the Farmhouse were very accomadating and helpful and we will be planning a return visit.

Lovely house and gardens, a perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

All twenty one of us had a wonderful holiday, the house is just great and better than expected, we felt really at home. The pool was a great hit with all of us especially the children and the games room provided us with much amusement mostly after the children had gone to bed. It maybe a while before we can all arrange to get together again but when it happens La G will be top of our list.

Marie and Simon were very welcoming and helpful.

we didn't venture out much except for market day in Chateau Gontier which was wonderful with lunch (for 21) at the Villa Roma Restaurant sensibly priced and very good.

First impressions were very favourable, lovely house and gardens and gorgeous surrounding countryside.

On closer inspection the cleanliness of the rooms were below par. The toilet pans would benefit from regular bleaching.

If you decide to book the house make sure you take sufficient towels as the ones supplied would be a useful substitute for sandpaper. Excellent for ridding your person of dry skin.

There was nothing to keep out the hordes of flies, especially from the very small kitchen. We had to purchase sticky fly strips to keep down their numbers down which was not a pleasant sight.

The upside was the beautiful area which we explored and enjoyed plus the weather was kind to us.

The sour note came when we tried to claim back our £1000 deposit.

The owner still hasn't returned our money due to a plastic bowl supposedly gone missing although we never had an inventory of the contents at the beginning of the holiday so can't say if it was there or not. A wine stain that should have been covered by the cleaning charge that we paid and a 10 euro tennis racket that mistakenly got exchanged for one of ours.

Offers have been made to pay for these "misdemeanours" but after over a month we still haven't received our deposit minus the charges.

Owner's Response: At the time of receipt of your comments, the bank details for the account into which the security deposit was to be refunded had only been confirmed to us two and a half hours earlier and we were in the process of issuing the refund. We "could not" issue the refund any earlier as we did not have the bank details If the house was dirty at the time of your arrival, we would gladly have cleared up any issues you had but you did not inform us of any issues. There was an influx of flies during some of the summer, in my own house as well, and we had to go to great lengths to keeps door and windows closed as well as kitchen surfaces clean to avoid them coming in. Regarding the deductions, in the email to your lead party member informing her of the deductions, the subject was left open for discussion, as is the case for all bookings where there are deductions. As of the 08/09/13 we had not heard back from your lead party member with any comments so we are unsure as to what "offers were made to pay for these". The group that stayed the week prior to yours also stayed in 2012 and are hoping to book again in 2014. Another group who stayed this year for the first time are hoping to come back next year if they can get their group to agree on dates. A group who came during summer 2012 have booked again in 2014. We have just had another group stay for the fourth time.
