Eine Woche Toscana erleben bei Bruno und Ginetta

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for slow living and a long stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the great pleasure of staying in this house for three weeks in July-August 2014. We looked forward to sunny days on the terrace and frequent trips to the beach (half an hour or so away), and even lovely fruit and veg from the garden. Alas, it was not to be, as last summer’s weather was absolutely dire! It rained (with frequent lightning and thunder) for the first half of our stay, and on our arrival poor Bruno apologised that almost nothing in the garden had reached edible stage due to the very cold and wet summer (though he had left us several bottles of much-appreciated wine).

However, we enjoyed ourselves very much and look forward to returning soon!

This is partly because the weather did clear up during the second half of our stay, but the greater factor was the kindness of Bruno and the lovely Ginetta and their son Roberto, who were very helpful but not at all intrusive. Bruno gave us great restaurant recommendations (and made reservations several times), went out of his way to get information and maps about Carrara when we asked him if he knew much about it, and generously shared with us the plums and porcini that survived the deluge. One day we asked casually about the DVD player that we had thought was provided. We’d misunderstood and there wasn’t one, which was fine, but Bruno went out and bought a new one the next day. He even heroically followed us down the hill on the day we left, catching us four miles later to hand over an expensive ceramic vase I’d acquired and stupidly left behind!

We liked the Lunigiana area very much. It’s not touristy and there aren’t a lot of big things to do (though you can easily go to Parma, Lucca, Pisa, the Riviera, etc. by auto and train). We really enjoyed the slow life and the small towns with their different characters and their different market days, and the interesting history of the area, including the Via Francigena, which we had never heard of before. The house is perfectly suited to this type of sojourn, including a well-equipped kitchen and that fabulous terrace. You could never tire of looking out over the valley in all its different weathers and times of day. And if you are unlike us and enjoy hiking, you are right in the middle of some fantastic hikes in the hills.

In short, we recommend this house highly! We’re just sorry it’s taken so long to write a review. We hope to return before very long for another long, slow stay.

Lovely View and Wonderful Host.

  • 5 of 5

The view from the house was really amazing. The view was never the same everyday when my family (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed for one week. The house has a big balcony where one can enjoy wine (by Mr Bruno) and admire the view or simply enjoy the day. The location of the place was about 15 min drive uphill from Villafranca. The place is a little tight for my family but the outdoor space (balcony) was spacious for my kids to play and run around.

We used the place as a base to visit the nearby villages and even a day trip to Cinque Terre and Carrara.

Mr Bruno is such a wonderful host, he gave many advices where to visit and where to eat especially in the nearby villages. Knowing that we had not book our accommodation for the next destination, he helped us to locate one in Pienza (Which was a lovely farm house). He is caring gentleman.

Thank you for your warm hospitality.
