About Laura Tan

Born in Hong Kong, but adopted to England in 1961. Owner has travelled extensively and driven an ambulance to Mongolia! However the love of St Ives has finally taken hold and the owner now lives moments away from Harbourside Penthouse so is on hand to help you make the best of your stay, offering a full concierege service if required including spa passes, Tate and Barbara Hepworth passes, delivered to your door. Or welcome champagne, chocolate and flowers for special celebration stays.

Children are welcome in the apartment (we have our own!) but due to the stair access and Juliette balcony, the apartment may not be suitable for toddlers. We can provide a temporary bed which would suit a child but not a large adult. Similarly elderly guests or guests with mobility difficulties may not find the apartment suitable for their needs. Sorry not smokers or pets please. Please note, balcony is Juliette style balcony with fully retractable bi fold doors rather than a full balcony extending outside of the property. The pool is not on site. It is at the nearby 4* Spa - 10 minutes walk away and passes are charged extra to your weekly accommodation charge. Access times are limited for children. You can stay for the day and enjoy spa facilities and the outdoor deck with stunning views over Porthminster beach

A wonderful apartment with a fantastic view right in the heart of St Ives. Very well eqipped. The entrance to the apartment is on Fore street where there are plenty of lovely gift shops , tea rooms etc. We would highly recommend this apartment.

Wonderful. Suits the whole feel of St.Ives

I find it difficult to add to the existing 5 star comments of this penthouse. However, I'll try.

The location is just amazing. If you've ever been to St.Ives before you will know Fore St. as it's main shopping street; the entrance is on this street. We stayed during the festival which meant that street entertainment was just outside the front door: music, dance, moving 'statues' (as you'll see in Covent Garden).

We had a wonderful time. The sun shone; we saw Seth Lakeman in the Guildhall; we bought a painting from the Millenium Gallery; we ate out every night and breakfast too, most days. Just the two of us.

A strange thing. We only took the car out once, and then missed St. Ives so much, we came back again within about 3 hours. St. Ives is a magical place.

I would recommend the taxi service as does Laura, the owner of the property. I've thanked them separately as they were so good. Laura herself was very helpful and kind. I booked late so had to pay the whole rent up-front direct to her. I received the keys, sent directly to my house without any problem, and with several emails informing me what was happening. Thank you Laura.

Absolutely recommended.

Christmas idyll

Everything about my Christmas in Laura's delightful penthouse appartment was perfect, from the cream tea that greeted us on arrival to the charming taxi driver who collected us when it was time to go back to our cars. And Laura herself was the perfect host - responding patiently to my somewhat anxious queries, suggesting pleasant things to do and responding calmly and efficiently to a last-minute change of plan.

The appartment itself is compact, but cleverly laid out to give an impression of space and is admirably pristine. We were three adults for part of my stay and there was plenty of room for us to flop onto the deep sofas to admire the view or dine in comfort. However, that being said, you would have to know each other pretty well. The bedroom is also deceptively spacious with plenty of storage and even an Ipod dock, although I preferred to snuggle up under the duvet and listen to the raindrops pattering on the dormer window. (Although there was also plenty of walking on the beach in the sunshine admiring the waves!)

And as for that view, to my mind it is quite simply the best in St Ives and you really don't need any other entertainment than watching the sun rise and set and the tide roll in and out. I did, though, like being in such close proximity to all the restaurants, pubs and cafes. We had a memorable Sunday lunch in the Seafood Cafe just down the street as well as some fortifying glasses of mulled cider in the pub over the road. I had also booked myself in for a Boxing Day of spa treatments at the Harbour Hotel, which was well worth the 10 minute stroll it took to get there.

Were there any disadvantages? Well, it is on the top floor, but hence the view, which to my mind makes it worth it, and if my 80 year-old mother can manage the stairs then so can most people. And a few more glasses and pots and pans wouldn't have gone amiss (I had to be quite creative when cooking my Christmas dinner). But these are only minor niggles and my true estimation of this property is shown in the fact that I would be there now in a heartbeat and that I hope to visit it many more times in both summer and winter for many years to come.

We were just looking at what needs updating in the apartment, and yes you're quite right, we woulld benefit from increasing stocks of glasses and pots and pans. We always like our guests to be perfectly happy with no niggles, so thanks for the useful feedback and all the other useful tips for future guests. Now I am living in St Ives, hopefully I will be able to help guests with anything that crops up during their stay. I'm only sorry that due to family illness I wasn't around during your week to respond to requests. January is the perfect time to upgrade, refresh and renew and we are just having the sofa reupholstered, repainting, replacing the microwave and other important details. Superb Location

We had a fantastic week in this lovely apartment. The views are amazing and the position of the apartment was a perfect location for the restaurants and exploring. Fabulous luxury accommodation in perfect location in a fabulous English seaside town. Wonderful views over the harbour, close to shops, great restaurants and friendly pubs. Will be booking again next year for our annual winter getaway.
