Alison is a recently retired teacher while John is retired from Ciba-Geigy and from instructing the Dale Carnegie Course. They make their primary home in New Jersey, close to 15 grandchildren. Alison summered on Cape Cod from the mid-1950's when her Grandparents retired to the Cape from the Berkshires to escape mountain snows. The house is Alison and John's second home when others are not there to enjoy it and they keep it immaculate and updated. Their caretaker and grounds keeper lives right down the street and is always available when needed.
The original property was a single lot and the original small cape cod home was built by a local contractor for my grandparents when they retired. The original home passed down to the next generation, and my father decided to expand and update the home to fulfill the dreams so often spoken of by the women of the family. Today it is a lovely airy home, fully updated, environmentally sound, new furnace, new windows, and a second piece of property to keep and expand the feeling of the original wooded property.
The minute you walk in the door, you feel the tensions of life fall away. The large windowed family room just welcomes you in, and soon you find it is the center of your time in the house. It leads you to the deck where we love to share our meals outdoors, or sit quietly to read a great book. The kitchen is wonderfully spacious for cooking. Step out the door and you are only minutes from every possible Cape Cod activity or restaurant due to the home's central location. Or just stay on the property and enjoy...there is lots available to do right there! Badminton, soccer, foosball, air hockey, board games. It truly is a Home Away From Home...... and you have the time to enjoy it!
We had a great weekend here at Alison's Cape house! The house is exactly as described and has everything you can possibly need. The kitchen has all the amenities you need. The outdoor grill is a bonus and nice deck to sit on. The house was very clean and comfortable. We loved the openness of the kitchen to dining area to family room. The guys golfed nearby and the girls enjoyed biking on the nearby railtrail. There were bikes in the garage, although we had brought our own and there's also a bike rental shop at the trail. I would definitely recommend this house, 4 bedrooms and plenty of room to sleep. We hope to return again next fall!
My friends and I stayed at this home recently during a long weekend getaway to do some photography together. There were eight of us and we very much appreciated having our own beds and most importantly for 8 women, 3 bathrooms! This is a beautiful, immaculate home with tons of room and equipped with EVERYTHING you might need for your vacation. All we needed to bring was our clothes and cameras! The central location could not have been more perfect as a base for all of our exploring. Even more amazing than this house, is Allison, our host, who spent over an hour talking to me on the phone about best places to go for sunsets, sunrises and other photo ops, and where to eat, etc and patiently answered e-mails from others in our party and provided detailed written suggestions for things to do. Our group has traveled together many, many times and we all agreed that this was the best trip we've taken so far. We will definitely be back next year. Thank You Allison!
We had a wonderful weekend at this lovely house. Kitchen is spacious and fully stocked with all necessities. Bedrooms are comfortable and a living room with huge windows and new TV is very charming and cozy. We loved the privacy and the greenery of the backyard. It is really not that easy to find at the Upper or Mid Cape. Plenty of walking trails and beaches within a short drive makes the house very well strategically located and keep any vacationer happy and busy for weeks.
Renting process went very easy and painless. Thank you, Alison!
My family stayed in this home for a week in July. There were 7 of us and our grandson. It is a great house, very roomy with plenty of beds and bathrooms. It was great to be able to do the laundry after a day at the beach. The house had everything we needed and we were very comfortable there. There were bikes in the garage for a ride on the Cape Cod Bike Trail and a gas grill on the deck for family cookouts. It's also in a convenient location to all the beaches and routes 28 and 6A. We had a great week in this home!
House was everything we expected and more. This is the third time we've rented a house on the Cape, and while none were disappointing, this one really stood out. There is plenty of room for two families, and it's in very good condition, but it's all the little extras that set this home apart. From the air hockey and foosball tables in the basement, to the garage filled with everything you want to bring on vacation but can't fit in your car, we had all the comforts of our own home. We'd rent this house again in a second!
This is our third year back to alison's home. When we walked in this year it felt as though we were "coming home". The house is misleading from the outside small and quaint looking great for a small family but once inside the amount of rooms and the grand size of them are room enough for our families to spend the week comfortably. The kids were thrilled this year with the addition of the fuse ball and air hockey in the basement and being able to do laundry all week is a definate bonus.
We looked for a place on the beach but honestly this house is great distance to several beaches our favorite is the light house beach in West Dennis check out the Light House inn for a romantic dinner (they also cater to families). We love the Drive-In in Wellfleet and always make our weekly trip to Hyannis Main St for an evening of shopping and dining. The location is ideal to all beaches and Route 6 for quicker trips along the Cape.
The kid wanted to go to the Cape Cod Chip Factory again this year, a quick but interesting little self guided tour. We enjoy the Little caboose for ice cream or Smugglers.
The boys went salt water fishing sorry I dont know which watering hole they went to but the boys had a great time. Also if you can check out the Bass River boat tour it was a fun day and the Captain let the kids "drive" the boat for a bit of the trip. We enjoyed the race cars and batting cages as well as the driving range at the Bass river Sports on 28 buit went further down to Pirates cove for mini golf.
I could go on forever but short of it is stay here I hate to tell you this as I don't want Alsion's house to become so popular I cannot get my week again but you will not be sorry. Alison is great to work with and very accomodating to her renter's needs. The house is always very clean and stocked with basic essentials like toilet paper and paper towels although we always bring extra becaue there are multiple families staying. I hope this review helped make your decision you will not be sorry if you stay here. Happy vacationing!
Situated in the heart of the Historic District, this home gives you a peacefully forested and spaciously lush green lawn property, close to the historic Captain's Row on 6A (the Old King's Highway) with its highly rated restaurants, intriguing antique shops, various creative art centers and the talent-drawing Cape Playhouse (7 min).
