Beautiful rural home located on the edge of Pescia with a bar and restaurant at the bottom of the hill. Firstly the house is located at the top of a hill which requires a little care and attention when driving up.The house being located in such a scenic location with its traditional character and modern amenities is very pretty and its pictures do not do it justice. It had all we needed to enjoy a family holiday whilst travelling around the local area. The numerous rooms and bathrooms were clean and spotless and we had all we needed in terms of towels etc. Do stop for food and essentials before first driving up to the house as it will take a little less stress from having to do the journey for the grocery shopping. Otherwise we as a family would highly recommend it and have done so to other family members as a holiday destination.
Perfect tuscan getaway for big groups
I highly recommend this beautiful vacation house. We were a group of 10 people and had more than enough space for each of us. The house itself offered a lot of space and was well equipped with everything you need, i.e. well equipped kitchen, two living rooms, a big table inside and one outside. During the day, we fully enjoyed the sun, either on the terrace which offered a great view over Pescia, or at the pool area. Speaking of pool, we loved spending time there, reading books, taking a swim or playing waterball. We also did a few trips, e.g. to Pisa and Lucca, which is approx. one-hour drive. We also made it to Siena, which is a two-hour drive. Overall, the location of the house is pretty good. Also, the small town Pescia offers everything you need: lots of supermarkets (coop, lidl, esselunga, ..), gelaterias, restaurants, banks etc.
The communication with Jo was excellent, I always received prompt replies. And Paul, the house manager, was very friendly and helpful.
The only negative thing (if you can say so), is the really steep and narrow street leading to the house. However, after the first time you get used to it and it’s even fun driving up there and getting better ;-) And the good thing is that there are almost no houses surrounding you, so it’s really calm and perfect to relax.
Overall, it was the perfect tuscany holiday and we will definitely come back some times!!
Perfection in Pescia!
A beautiful house in a stunning location - fabulous views but close enough to Pescia to have all you need close by. Our party of 7 enjoyed a fabulous week at La Fortezza - my husband and I took our children (10 and 6) and our elderly parents and my brother flew over from Australia to join us - so we created some very special memories! The service from both Jo the owner and Paul the manager was first class - very helpful and responsive too. The villa was exactly as described and was just as good, if not better than the photo's portrayed. We had more than enough space for all of us, and the outside grounds are expansive too. The smell of lavender and rosemary down towards the swimming pool area was heavenly!
The kitchen was well stocked, making it easy to eat in, which we did quite a lot. The pizza oven was a real hit with the kids - we did this twice during the week buying the fresh readymade dough from Essalunga in Pescia. They tasted fantastic! Our son (6) was delighted with the toy cupboard he found near the entrance by the hot tub, as well as the extensive collection of DVD's which kept them happy when they wanted to chill out after the pool. The pool itself is lovely - a good size and a great temperature for cooling your body down, especially as it was close to 40 degrees when we where there! The only thing that could have improved the holiday would have been air conditioning given it was so hot, but we made good use of the shutters in the day and were provided with more fans during the week. Paul was on hand for any issues - we had a puncture in one of the hire cars and he kindly met us and took us to a local garage where it was swiftly sorted out.
We didn't travel too far, but did take the train to Pisa, and then visited Lucca and Montecatini Alto on the funicular. A real highlight was the tasting lunch at Fattoria Il Poggio in Montecarlo - fantastic food and wine and amazing value. Highly recommended! We only wish we had explored Pescia centre sooner as this looked like a lovely little town with some nice shops and gelataria's on the main street! We shopped in Esselunga and Lidl and discovered Gelataria Igloo just opposite Essalunga near the end of the holiday, which was great and much better (taste & value!) than the orange cabin in town near the river. We will really miss that amazing view over Pescia and the caffe New York which we enjoyed from the tabac opposite Esselunga - such great value. Until next time - ciao!
This is an absolutely beautiful villa with a stunning view in a relaxing area.
We stayed here with 7 adults and 5 kids and had a truly great holiday. The views of the surrounding valley and mountain top villages are amazing - and some of the best times were spent enjoying these from the outside dining areas and breakfast veranda! Even the view from the toilet window is breathtaking. Our kids (aged 3-5) loved the private pool and the house is sufficient in size to give each family a decent bit of privacy too. Lots to do nearby (well, about 30 min drive) and we enjoyed some great day trips out (Lucca, Montecarlo, Pisa, Florence and the infamous Pinocchio park too!) The villa is remote - which is great for peace and quiet, but is a bit of a mission to run down to the shops.... and the drive up the hill is a tad lively the first time you do it! It did also get a bit warm in the villa while we were there - but it was the European heat wave, (38 degrees most days!) so that's to be expected. It was a great holiday, and both Jo and Paul were super helpful throughout. Highly recommended!
Perfect Tuscan villa
My family and I absolutely loved this villa, such a beautiful property with amazing hilltop views. All the double rooms have fantastic views but the pool was the absolute highlight! So refreshing after a hot day of sightseeing! The only negative of this property is the drive up the hill. It's pretty challenging the first couple of time but gets better after a bit more practice. Overall would definitely recommend
The house is situated on a hill and provides a beautiful view. The road to the house is very steap. Specially the first time it is a bit difficult (definitaly for larg cars) but you get used to it. The kitchen and the kitchen equipment are rather basic, but all the other rooms and the garden are really very comfortable. We had a very nice stay here and would definitaly recommend this house.
La Fortezza is located in an ideal place in the hills above Pescia. It provides a tranquil scenic peaceful setting with an abundance of nature whilst still being only 5 minutes drive from the town. It is also within the 'golden triangle' of Lucca, Pisa and Florence - perfect for day trips. After a long day sight seeing there is nothing better than watching the sun set over the medieval hilltop villages with a glass of the local vino.
