Since the days of Thomas Jefferson the Dabney Carr house at Rosneath has offered Virginians and their guests just about the perfect place to greet the four seasons. Today, a newly remodeled kitchen and the latest entertainment gear enhance the experience. Rosneath is a great place to stay indoors with friends and family on a crisp winter night, walk in the meadows on a cool spring morning, sip a drink on the porch as the summer sun sets, or take in the hardwood trees’ fall fashion show.
The house rests in 120 acres of meadow and woodland, less than 25 miles from the Wintergreen Resort, 18 minutes from UVA and Monticello, 20 minutes from the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive and a few miles from the historic, enchanting village of Batesville. It’s minutes from the Pippin Hill winery and within a half hour to the Trump Vineyards. With all that nearby, guests often say they would prefer to remain on the property and breathe pure mountain air, drink clear fresh water from the land’s private spring and enjoy dazzling sunsets and a star filled night sky.
The kitchen is newly remodeled and fully equipped. There is a dining room, media room/parlor and living room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a private bathroom and an adjacent office that can be used as a bedroom or nursery. Down the hall there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with two twin beds.
The house has been in our family for over 60 years. We were a military family and posted all over the states. Coming back to Rosneath was, for us, a chance to recharge and be surrounded by beauty and nature (our other residence was often surrounded by barb wire and bombers). Now that our parents are gone we thought it would be wonderful for others to be able to escape from the stress of their working lives as we have,
Randy Elliott purchased this farmhouse in 1948
Many generations of our family were raised nearby in Ivy and other parts of Albermarle County. Our grandfather knew his son-in-law and his daughter would be raising children at military postings and wanted an anchor for his family, http://youtu.be/DpziAVMBcxY
It is secluded and restful and yet close to wonderful amenities and a thriving cultural experience surrounding the University of Virginia.
Roseneath is located in a quiet area of trees, green pastures, & winding roads. Entering this home, one can imagine how the early colonists lived, albeit with the latest WIFI & TVs. This property is spacious with 2 living rooms; a large modern kitchen; 3 bedrooms, one with an ensuite bathroom and sitting room with a pull-out couch, dining room, and outdoor balconies. We were there for our daughter's wedding and were so comfortable and at home. There was plenty of room for family and guests. Our only regret was that we didn't have adequate time to fully enjoy the calm atmosphere of Roseneath & its surroundings. This was an ideal location for us, & we hope to make it back there one day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house was clean and bright: just as it is pictured. The views from the windows and porches, doorways and gardens out to the split-rail fence and rolling fields and on to the edge of the mountains were lovely. We enjoyed cooking and eating meals together - after a wine tasting at Pippin Hill Winery (just two miles down the road from the house, past the apple orchards). Visiting Charlottesville, UVA, Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn-Highland, and wineries are all good activities before returning home to prepare dinner and taste local wines. Thank you for sharing your house.
We loved staying in this lovely old farmhouse in the countryside. We were close enough to Charlottesville, Monticello, wineries, and the Shenandoah National Park to get to everything we wanted to do, but we came back each night to the complete quiet and darkness of the countryside. It had everything we needed and plenty of space. Beds were comfortable and sheets were soft. We are already planning our return trip!
We were there to celebrate our daughter's college graduation and we had a fabulous time staying at this property. It was contemporary yet historic and the views were spectacular. Many fond memories were made there this past weekend and I am so glad that this house served as the background for them.
My family and I stayed at this beautiful farmhouse over Easter weekend. The property is large and my children (10 and 8 years old) loved exploring outside. The house is clean and well maintained. The updated kitchen is well stocked and allowed us to prepare most of our meals. Dr. Ho's Humble Pie is close and has a large selection of great pizzas. The furnishings inside and outside the house are lovely. We hope to return to Rosneath again soon.
This wonderful old farmhouse was very charming and comfortable. Overall, the house was very clean and well-cared for with all the supplies we needed. Our family likes to hike and the house was only about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive. It was also an easy drive to Charlottesville and Monticello. Awesome outside space for kids to run around. I would highly recommend it. The only downside is that two of the rooms have double beds. My husband and I are tall so we felt a little squashed and would have been more comfortable in a queen bed. But this is minor compared to all the great things about this location and home.
