Since the days of Thomas Jefferson the Dabney Carr house at Rosneath has offered Virginians and their guests just about the perfect place to greet the four seasons. Today, a newly remodeled kitchen and the latest entertainment gear enhance the experience. Rosneath is a great place to stay indoors with friends and family on a crisp winter night, walk in the meadows on a cool spring morning, sip a drink on the porch as the summer sun sets, or take in the hardwood trees’ fall fashion show.
The house rests in 120 acres of meadow and woodland, less than 25 miles from the Wintergreen Resort, 18 minutes from UVA and Monticello, 20 minutes from the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive and a few miles from the historic, enchanting village of Batesville. It’s minutes from the Pippin Hill winery and within a half hour to the Trump Vineyards. With all that nearby, guests often say they would prefer to remain on the property and breathe pure mountain air, drink clear fresh water from the land’s private spring and enjoy dazzling sunsets and a star filled night sky.
The kitchen is newly remodeled and fully equipped. There is a dining room, media room/parlor and living room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a private bathroom and an adjacent office that can be used as a bedroom or nursery. Down the hall there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with two twin beds.

About Randy Elliott
The house has been in our family for over 60 years. We were a military family and posted all over the states. Coming back to Rosneath was, for us, a chance to recharge and be surrounded by beauty and nature (our other residence was often surrounded by barb wire and bombers). Now that our parents are gone we thought it would be wonderful for others to be able to escape from the stress of their working lives as we have,
Randy Elliott purchased this Farmhouse in 1948
Why Randy Elliott chose Samuel Miller
Many generations of our family were raised nearby in Ivy and other parts of Albermarle County. Our grandfather knew his son-in-law and his daughter would be raising children at military postings and wanted an anchor for his family, http://youtu.be/DpziAVMBcxY

Beautiful house - wonderful time!
The farm house and property are absolutely beautiful! Everything that we needed for a comfortable stay was provided. We had an amazing time and will be returning!
We visited for 4 nights and first impression upon entering the house was that I had just walked into a house museum. It's unique that this home is open for tourist. The floor plan is very good for two couples or for a family with children. I will note the beds are full size in two rooms and there are the two twins in the other room. The kitchen offers all the modern conveniences. Everything was CLEAN! We especially loved the rocking chairs on the balcony; views were spectacular! This is a house to host a reunion with outdoor patio terrace. It's wonderfully located on the side of a mountain and easy to get to. The owner left an informative binder with great history for the house and graveyard on property. Be ready to photograph or hire a photographer! There's an old red barn with mountain backdrop on property. You will get some beautiful pictures. I do not think it matters what season you visit. It's magnificent!
I would have liked to have had a TV in our bedroom, but only one room has a TV. There are two living rooms; one with a TV. There were lots of older books on the built in which we enjoyed. The surrounding area offers an amazing restaurant called, Dr. Ho. Don't miss this place if you stay here... homemade ice cream, artisan pizza and many other homemade dishes. There's also a convenience store with almost everything. These two places are only 5 minutes down the road and worth a visit! Very nearby is Pippins Farm Winery and Monticello is only 25 minutes away. Walnut Creek park has a beautiful lake with trails which we took advantage of with our dogs. I wish we had more time to stay! We would love to return. Thank you!
Love it, as always. Can't wait to return next thanksgiving
Thank you again
Neat old house on a beautiful piece of property
Would recommend, close to several vineyards and provided cozy accommodations.
Our great experience began months before our travel date. The house has been in the family for generations, and online communications with Ross were much warmer than you usually have with property managers.
The rooms were large & comfortably furnished; the kitchen easily accommodated 3 of us fixing meals at the same time. And we had a hard time deciding where to relax outside & enjoy the beautiful country scenes!
The one downside was leaving the house each day to enjoy the many day trip opportunities. The listing doesn't exaggerate how convenient it is to Monticello, the Blue Ridge, etc. (Highly recommend Grand Caverns.) We even did a cider tasting at an orchard just a couple of miles away!
Restaurants nearby are excellent. Nearby Dr. Ho's was good enough to go to twice, and we also stuffed ourselves at Smoked in Crozet.
But with all the daily destinations, when I think of Rosneath I will think that I'd like to go back just to spend more time at the house itself and its delightful surroundings. Thank you so much Ross and Misty!
