I'm an opera singer, gallery owner and arts festival organizer. I'm originally from New Zealand. I started the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice in the field behind our home four years ago and this has grown to become one of the most successful arts events in the region each summer. My wife, Bex is from Scotland and is a storyteller and actress and we have two young children, Rosa and Edrick. We've lived in many places throughout the world and consider the Catskills to be one of the most beautiful areas we have ever had the pleasure to spend time.
Kerry Henderson purchased this cottage in 2006
The cottage was beautiful! We went to the local bar and restaurant, where we ate their $5 specials almost every night. The hot tub wasn't working, but Kerry really tried to get it to work by getting his maintenance man on it asap. Everything else was great!! We came all the way from Michigan and enjoyed the scenery, mountains, and the fire with our little dogs. They also enjoyed having a yard to run in and walking the trails that were pet friendly. If we come back to the Catskills, we would stay here again!
the pictures don't do the cottage justice (guess it's hard to fit it all in to one shot). The backyard is spacious and securely fenced - this was a deal maker for us as we were traveling with our dog. Wish we could've stayed a few more nights...
Cottage as described on the website. Cozy, comfortable, warm accommodations located in a perfect spot - hiking trail right our back, and coffee shop/pizza a short walk away. Not a place to cook - as mentioned on the site. Hot tub was heavenly. Owners very responsive - never waiting long to hear back with questions prior to the visit, or during our stay. They even made a trip to the cottage with light bulbs when we informed them the ones there were burnt out. Already recommended place to two friends (dog friendly!) and we will be back.
This was a perfect cottage for a long getaway. My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 5 year anniversary truly with other and this was perfect! No phone service, no TV, just fun conversations and exploring the mountains around us! The private yard was amazing, we sat in the hot tub surrounded by fireflies at night, and by day we all lounged on the hammock reading (our two dogs included!).
The restaurants were much better than I could have imagined! We ate at Brios, Sweet Sue's, Alamo Cantina, Mama's Boy and all were fantastic. It didn't matter what we ate; it was good! Woodstock was about a 1-20 minute drive where we spent the day being tourists. We hiked the trail right behind the house and it's much steeper than it looks! But great views and totally worth it.
I can't wait to visit again! We really enjoyed ourselves.
My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend and we are wishing we were still there. With two sofas, tables, and queen bed there was ample room to sprawl out yet was compact enough to still be cozy. The incredible vaulted wood ceiling with skylights also added to the ambiance. Since this was a summer visit, the AC and ceiling fan kept us very comfortable. The natural cobblestone shower was also great. Luckily there were a lot of towels because we got to take advantage of the hot tub. The fire pit was the cherry on top, and given its placement we could light the fire outside, and open the front windowed doors to watch it from inside the cottage at night. Our only minor quip was that the bedsheets smelled a little musty. Overall, though, staying here was as easy and pleasant as could be. What a wonderful gem. :)
We had a fabulous time during our weekend getaway. This cottage is the prefect location, very charming, and the hot tub was awesome on those chilled nights. It gives you the perfect view of the star filled night sky.
We had phenomenal food (Sweet Sue's and Brio), hiked the mountain trail from just around the corner from the cottage, and relaxed in a very comfy quaint room. We will more than likely be back!
