Lightly Salted was a great vacation house! Kitchen well stocked, upgrades throughout, sleep number beds were not that pleasing but o.k. Even had pack -n-play & high chair which were nice to have there with a little one. Only 3.5 miles down the not that far! (Pay attention to high tide times)

Awesome house, home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The house was fantastic, well equipped with all the comforts of home and then some. The pool exceeded our expectations, and the sound system at the pool was great. Quick access to the beach to enjoy the best of both worlds. We will stay there again next time we come back to the OBX. If you're a first timer, don't trust Garmin to lead you to the house. Drive 3.5 miles down the beach, go about 1/4 mile past the house, THEN turn left to get on Sandfiddler Rd, 1634 Sandfiddler Rd is the address. DEFLATE your tires to 18 lbs max. We got away without doing that for the first few days, but the sand got softer and deeper, and of course we got stuck, but managed to dig ourselves out. No issues after deflating. Enjoy!!

An incredible rental that continues to impress!

  • 5 of 5

So full disclosure, this is my second review and 4th year staying at Lightly Salted. The house continues to remain in tip top condition, which is a testament to Bill and his management team of Laura and David.

New baking pans and cookie sheets, linens, coffee pot, etc, show that when anything falls below acceptable condition Bill replaces it.

The sleep number beds, furniture, appliances, etc, are still in like new condition and the house looks great. Even the hardwoods and carpet, which surely take a lot of abuse, are still in great condition.

The hot tub and pool were once again great, as we had 70's-80's all week.

Fishing was ok right in front of the house. Lots of skate, which indicates there is likely a sand bar in front of the house. Blues were biting well at mile post 19 and it seems that bc of some shifting this winter, that there is good fishing at mile 18.5-19 just up the beach. ( the house is at mile post 16 )

As a heads up to anyone coming in this year-

There are lots of boogie boards and beach chairs here at the house, so don't buy or worry about bringing any.

Also the spice cabinet is well stocked- salt, pepper, old bay, garlic, italian, oil, vinegar, sugar, flour, coffee filters, and then some. Contact Laura and she can tell you what's here.

Apple users will be happy with the fact that every bedroom has a charger and the main room entertainment system has a dock for charging and playing tunes.

There isn't much that you will need and don't bother going to look for the wild horses. We saw them 6 out of the 7 days right in the beach in front of the house.

You couldn't ask for a better rental and all 11 people who visited / stayed with us raved about the house.

Already booked for next May and wish we could do it more often than once a year!

Nicely maintained home

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house that is very well furnished and stocked with all the latest gadgets. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots and pans, and the roomy pantry is a plus. The huge dining room table was wonderful for Thanksgiving. The property manager, Laura Jameson, is awesome ~ very responsive and helpful.

Obviously this in not within the control of the owner, but I would like to give a word of caution to travelers with young children about the 4 wheel drive area: the traffic on the beach is a concern if you are taking small children down to the ocean. The speed limit of 15 mph was definitely not being observed when we were there.
