About the property

6 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 12

Major renovations in 2011, 6 bedroom Lakeside home on beautiful Thompson Lake. Brand new Kitchen appliances with fully equipped Kitchen (dishes and cookware for large family). 'The Charleston room' (Master Bedroom) with King size bed and gorgeous view of water on first floor. 'The Caroline's Castle room' with Queen size bed on first floor. Full bathroom is on first floor. Great water views from all lakeside facing windows. Four bedrooms are upstairs with bathroom (NEW IN 2017, A SHOWER IS INSTALLED ON 2ND FLOOR). Large wrap around deck with two large tables and seating along the entire length of the deck. Front lawn is large enough to play some outside games (croquet or badminton). Home is on a very quiet road that is great for children that want to ride their own bikes. Enjoy using our two kayaks and canoe to explore the gorgeous lake or you can bring your own boat. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the Lake! The water is gradual entry so is nice for children. Much to do within 10 minutes to an hour's drive.

Telephone, Cable TV and wireless internet are included. No pet and No smoking property. Our home is very well appointed, you will have everything that you need to cook a meal either inside or out on the large gas grill. Enjoy eating either at the dining room table (can seat 8) or out on the large deck that has a tremendous amount of seating area. There are many movies to watch, outside games for children and adults plus a basketball hoop. Enjoy toasting marshmallows or cooking hot dogs on a stick over the lakeside fire pit.

When I was a child, our family owned property on Thompson Lake. This experience created so many wonderful memories including swimming and boating, sitting by the fire telling stories, and eating a picnic by the lake. I dreamed of owning a waterfront property on this wonderful lake and now I can share my dream with you and provide an opportunity for you to create your own special memories.

You may find you never want to leave the lake once you are here, but Maine is beautiful and has much to offer. We would be happy to suggest day trips and things to do in the area. We want this to be your home away from home.

About Mindy Davis

Growing up in Maine ourselves, and experiencing family time at the lake, we really wanted to be able to offer similar opportunities to other families. Being able to share memories and stories while sitting around a fire toasting marshmallows or cooking hot dogs, can be one of the best memories that you can experience with your family and/or extended family and friends. Having a fun BBQ and enjoying the outdoors while seeing loons, birds, and other wildlife can be most enjoyable when you are taking a break from your very busy everyday life.

Why Mindy Davis chose Oxford

We love Thompson Lake in Maine. It is the lake that we grew up with. It is one of the cleanest lakes in Maine. It is a large lake yet is quiet as most folks that use the lake are living on the lake.

Well-cared for home. Owners wanted to make guests so comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Home was so comfortable for everyone. Kitchen was so well equipped. The owners really thought about their guests when they set this home in motion. We felt so "at home" here. The lake was beautiful. They just thought about everything. Kudos to them. Thanks for a great week.

Dream come true

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect getaway we were dreaming of for the family this past year.

The lake in the back was just the right depth that we felt comfortable with the kids swimming and relaxing in the raft or cannoe. All the Amenities of home and Wifi service had us feeling like we were home. The owner was quick to answer any questions we had and very helpful in giving us tips on dining. I recommend this home to a friend who may visit Maine next year. The water is crystal clean. Thanks for a great stay!

Wonderful Location, Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The owners were very professional and responsive and a pleasure to rent from. The property, and the lake, are both beautiful. The lake is very peaceful - nice to kayak and enjoy the wildlife. The home itself is lovely, has everything you need, is very comfortable and is obviously lovingly cared for by the owners. I highly recommend renting this home and would do so again myself.

A Great Vacation Home

  • 4 of 5

We have a great time at Lakeside Dream. The home is well maintained and was equipped as advertised. The owners are very professional and were a pleasure to rent from. Thompson Lake is a lovely spot. Quiet and relaxing with clear water, lots of wildlife to watch and fish to catch. We spent a couple of days at Boothbay Harbour before arriving which was great but packed with the expected tourists, including us. Thompson lake was a nice contrast and provided more of a local experience. We would rent this house again.

Great vacation

  • 5 of 5

The lake was a lot bigger then we realized.we rented a pontoon boat for a day and went exploring the whole lake. Everyday we used the kayaks and canoe. The house was very clean and comfortable ,Friday when the temperature hit 99* ,thank God for the basement it was 20 degrees cooler then upstairs. I would recommend your house for a vacation to anyone wanting to relax and spend time in and on the water.everything we needed for meals was in the kitchen. The restaurants were a distance away but were well worth the travel, The MillTavern in Bridgeton or Harrison was fantastic ,Cindy's Dockside was good also. I hope we can get the whole family to repeat next year .

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind comments. I remember you mentioning to me that the children were in the water the whole time and didn't even turn on the TV! Now that is a true vacation for all! You're right, the lake is quite large and is so beautiful. To us, it is a hidden treasure in Maine. I know the restaurants are about 30 minutes away if you want really great food but it's worth the drive when you don't want to cook some night. We truly hope that you will return next year to build on the memories that you had this year. Thank you for staying with us! ~Mindy and John at a lakeside dream

Just spent the week of Aug 8th 2015 here with my family. The house has plenty of room and privacy for all and the teens loved having the downstairs basement room for TV and Air hockey. It is very clean and well stocked. The owners thought of everything from extra blankets, window fans for each bedroom, and a huge lobster pot, which we of course used! The cove is a bit tricky and shallow if you have a motor boat because it is located on the north side of the lake, but everything was marked and the neighbors were helpful with tips to get in and out safely. This lake is spectacular and very big with very little boat traffic. There is a public launch, but be careful as there is a large rock there and we suggest you study the lake map first to avoid. Very peaceful and relaxing vacation for all and we all hated to leave..

Owner's Response: Our end of the lake is a bit tricky as you said with getting a boat into our cove so extra care should be taken. Once you are in main part of the lake, it is absolutely beautiful. There is a map on our wall of the lake with some detail, but not all is clearly marked. The beauty of our end of the lake is that it is very peaceful with a lot of wildlife to experience, as well as our end of the lake is calmer and great for kayaking and canoeing. Thank you so much for staying with us and we do hope you are able to come back again! ~Mindy and John at a lakeside dream

Map

Car: necessary

Thompson Lake is located in Oxford, Otisfield, Casco and Poland. It is spring-fed by the Poland Spring Aquifer and is considered one of the most pristine lakes in Maine. The lake is 12 miles long (4426 acres) and can be over 100 feet deep in some areas. The shoreline is fun to explore as it has many characteristics depending upon where you are. Some of the lake's shoreline is rocky, some beaches, some undeveloped areas, and there are many varied lake houses and cottages that are fun to view from a boat, canoe or kayak. It's also fun to see the sailboats finding their way around the lake. Use our canoe or kayaks to explore the lake, or the close by marina has boats for rent. Also, snorkeling can be such an adventure! Nature is at it's finest when you spot the ducks, deer, eagles, various species of fish, and enjoy the sight and sounds of loons on the lake. So, bring your own or rent a motor boat and enjoy this quiet beautiful lake. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets on the Lake!

For those of you that enjoy a little gambling, we are located about 10 minutes to the brand new Casino in Oxford!

There is a local movie theater in Oxford and a drive-in theater that is in Bridgton. There is Candlepin Bowling 15 minutes away.

Our home, 'a lakeside dream', is in the country yet is a reasonable drive to so many WONDERFUL destinations. Maine is known for it's fabulous four seasons.

In the summer, enjoy scenic hikes, riding bikes, fishing (with license), boating, several nearby golf courses, walking trails, antiquing, go-karts/mini golf, not to mention shopping adventures that are less than an hour's drive. Freeport is home of the famous LL Bean Store and many national brand outlets. Old Port shopping district in Portland (with many unique shops) is a cruise ship destination. North Conway, NH shopping outlets are also about an hour's drive. The Portland Museum of Art and the Portland Children's Museum are also great day trips as well as watching a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game; The Sea Dogs are the Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Splashtown/Funtown Amusement Park is about an hour and 15 minutes drive. For those that are race fans, there is our nearby Oxford Plains Speedway (10 minutes away) that has races all summer.

The ocean with beautiful beaches and fabulous restaurants (a Maine Lobster Roll is a must!)is also less than an hour, yet you are also within an hour's drive to the mountains. Mount Washington is a wonderful adventure on a clear beautiful day! Fall is a time for apple picking and the fabulous leaf season. Fall foliage in Maine is spectacular! The bright colored leaves are beautiful on a sunny fall day, especially when reflected on the lake. Many take a day trip and enjoy beautiful scenic drives or for those hikers, there are hiking trails with spectacular views.

Maine is famous for its' many agricultural fairs that begin in late summer and early fall. The Fryeburg Fair in October is a favorite!

If what you are looking for is some time to rest, rejuvenate, enjoy peace and quiet time...whether it be to read a book on the large wrap around deck or watch the flames of the fire at the lakeside fire pit, enjoy some outdoor cooking, going for long walks, sitting on the dock with your toes in the water, then this really is the home to come to. Our home is yours to enjoy a lakeside dream and leave with many wonderful memories and with plans to visit us again soon!
