The location is nice. The house could use some love and attention

  • 3 of 5

As my family owns a house on Cape Elizabeth, I used the house only to sleep in at night with a couple of my kids as there were a lot of people in town. I've spent a week in Maine for the last 8 or 10 years and have lots of experience renting places. On the positive side, the owner was very responsive and quite friendly. The location is quite nice, as there is a small and very private beach just 50 or 100 yards away. The house is old and 'creaky', which can be charming, but it also felt like the place was furnished with odds and ends, and old furnishings that like castoff's from someone else's house. I don't think it would take a lot of money to spruce up, which was the frustrating thing. Buy a couple of lamps and a nice throw rug, and get rid of some of the old bookcases. I can't say that it was a particularly pleasant place to stay, but it could be with a little love and attention.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback Timothy. We are sorry to hear that you don't share our sense of interior decorating for our home. We take pride in our home and the photo's we provide are absolutely accurate. We try to maintain a cozy, unpretentious feel of a beach home. From the updated Kitchen and primary bath to the furniture and appliances are welcoming and new. Obviously our style differs from yours and we appreciate your opinion. Thank you

A realistic description was given of the property in a great location with beautiful views.

  • 4 of 5

This property was well equipped and perfect for a young family. We spent a very comfortable time here with our grandchildren aged 2 and 4 years. Plenty to do around and about, returning for afternoon rest followed by a minute walk to Sea Mist's private beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this old fashioned house where everything worked. Fixture to creaking floorboards and a deep clean would be the only improvement. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

Beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed for a week in late August. The home was clean and inviting. Everything was in good working order. The view from the living room is fantastic. I saw a beautiful sunrise one morning. The beach is an easy walk and we were usually the only ones there during the weekdays. Easy access to 2 state parks. It is an older home so floors were a little creaky and bedrooms were small.

Sea glass haven

  • 4 of 5

Location was terrific, a short walk to a private beach filled with great rocks and an abundance of sea glass, and a wonderful ocean view from the house. Home had all that we could have needed - soft sheets, fluffy and clean towels, plenty of blankets in varying weights, plenty of pillows, toys (bubbles, horseshoes, badmitten, balls, etc. etc.), hand soaps, pots/pans/dishes/etc., laundry detergents, bug spray, neosporin. Oh and lots of beach towels, and a lovely beach totes and beach toys (in addition to house toys listed above). Not lacking, and all nice quality and in good condition.

We dinged one star for cleanliness. I am not a neat freak, but do like cleanliness; and cobwebs and dirty window sills and vents was surprising since the home had been rented the week before and therefore cleaned recently. Easily remedied with a better cleaning service.

Rooms a little tight, but not surprising given age of home. We had to rearrange the furniture a bit to actually open the trundle and close the door, but completely manageable. Lots of dresser space to unpack for the week, and beds were very comfortable.

I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, and he was accommodating and helpful - the process through VRBO and working with the owner was seamless.

Miss the View

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay and while things didn't go quite as planned the owner was very quick to respond to our issue. The view was absolutely amazing and the beds are very comfortable. I was surprised that we really did have everything we needed (utensil wise) to cook our own meals. He left several recommendations and i have to say Becky's diner was my favorite. If you go id also recommend booking a ride on a sailboat it was amazing.
