This is my childhood home! Although we haven't lived here in many years, we only decided in 2005 to make it into a vacation rental since it truly is in a wonderful location, and the property itself is ideal for large families wishing to stay together, yet seperate, between the three units. The 3 block walk to the beach is lovely and you are also only 2 blocks from charming downtown South Haven. Our guests come back again and again, letting us know that we are doing something right! We have tried to provide everything WE would want in a vacation home. Choose Three by the Sea for your large family gathering. We feel sure you'll want to come back!
Aside from a wonderful location, we have a garage stocked with a whole fleet of bicycles for nearly all ages, kayaks, gas AND charcoal grills, beach toys, a Burley to wheel everything to the beach, and more! There are plenty of outdoor areas to relax or play: we have a hammock, a deck, and a porch; we have a basketball court, a picnic table, and a tree chair swing that the kids love. Indoors we have comfy beds, a two large kitchens, two washers/dryers, games, books, and an open floor plan for games, t.v., and more.
This house a provided a comfortable space for our team to get to know each other better. We especially enjoyed its short walking distance from the beach and other features of the town. With all the amenities provided to us and the location in the middle of a good neighborhood, the house itself felt very homey and conducive to our goals of strengthening our bonds as a team. Well-kept, clean, and cozy, Three by the Sea is definitely a good choice for anyone looking to hold a small retreat or get-together.
This past weekend was our annual ladies trail ride from Team Active in Battle Creek. Our destination was three by the sea. There were a total of 14 cyclists and we rode the Kal-Haven trail about 72 total miles between the two days. Ilse was very accommodating as she stocked the fridge for us with breakfast food. We enjoyed dinner out in beautiful South Haven followed by a spectacular sunset at the beach. Everyone that rode will definitely do it again next year. A wonderful retreat. Thanks again and we will see you next year:)
As previous reviews have mentioned this is a great spot for large groups. I work at a brewery and we toured a local hop farm not far away and then made a visit to Founders Brewing the next day. This was a perfect fit for our group of 13 people. There are two grills (charcoal and gas) that we put to good use while shooting some hoops in the driveway with the fire pit going.
There are multiple dwellings on the property that make it perfect for privacy as well if you choose to peel away from the group. A great spot for a big family gathering. There are bikes and games in the garage as well to keep the young ones happy and plenty of outdoor seating for all. You're also only a couple blocks to the downtown area and Lake Michigan beaches.
Three by the Sea has a little something for everyone. Next time I'll make my stay for longer than just one night!
We've stayed at many places in South Haven and this one is simply the best!! We've stayed here 4 times now,..........large family and friends,......14 to 16 in all,...........and it just has the right things for anybody and everybody. The location is perfect for going into town a short walk north,.......or to the beach a short walk west. If you want to kick back with quiet, or games for the whole crew, there's room for everything! The garage is loaded with bikes and games for kids of all ages, a large basketball court too. The cooking areas indoors and out is very spacious, and a huge area for a bonfire after a long day. We will be staying there for many many years to come!!
Our large extended family has been staying at Three By the Sea for the past 7 years and we LOVE it!!! We use all 3 units. It is the perfect location with an easy walk or bike ride to the cute shops, restaurants, and farmer's market downtown, as well as the marina, Kids Place, and most importantly South Beach. We love the large lot and driveway, the basketball goal, the game tables (ping pong, air hockey, shuffle board), the variety of bikes available, the fire pit and the porches. There is lots of outside seating space. You can most often find the adults reading on the front or side porch or laying in the hammock (unless it is already occupied by a teenager!). The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and appliances that you may need and the large farm style kitchen table is perfect for games or family discussions. One thing that is especially important is the fact that there are a total of 4 full bathrooms and 2 washers and dryers (for the 3 units)--very important for a large group!!! We have always found Ilse, the owner, to be very responsive to any issues or concerns that may arise before or during our stay. Each year, she makes improvements to the property. We love South Haven but more importantly, we love Three By the Sea!
We recently stayed at 3 By the Sea for a large family memorial turned family reunion/Vacation. My Grandpa was buried in Covert, MI and we had 64 family members attend from out of state. We rented 3 totally separate VRBO houses in South Haven, and 3 By the Sea was by far the most hospitable, roomy, and prepped for large families of all of them. Ilse was easy to work with and was willing to go out of her way to make sure we had a good time in the planning process as well as during our stay. We had 6 families (a total of 20 people--12 adults and 8 kids) actually stay on site and there was plenty of room for all. There were extra beds for 3-4 of the kids (bunks and a toddler bed) in the Maggie's retreat section. There were also some pull out couches for the remaining kids. All of the adults were able to stay in real beds. In addition to those of us actually staying on site, 3 By the Sea became the central gathering place for all of our families, as it was the closest to the beach (5 blocks), closest to downtown (3 blocks) and had a very nice driveway/yard area for kids and adults to gather in larger groups. There was at least one time where we hosted 50+ people at the same time on site and it worked out great for our large group.
