|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Located in the highly desirable, ever-sunny Kapoho, Hale Pilialoha, the Friendship House has just been lovingly remodeled into two very private units. Enter through the beautiful, custom, double glass doors into the light-filled entry and into your warm and welcoming vacation home. This incredible hale has gorgeous cedar walls and is decorated with tropical furnishings in a beautiful Hawaiiana theme. The hale is just a five minute walk from the protected Wai Opae tide pools where swimming and snorkeling can be a daily occurrence. Just a five minute drive down the famous Red Road is the Ahalanui Warm Spring Park which is a geothermally heated swimming pond at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Since Kapoho is located at the furthest most eastern edge of the Big Island, it enjoys drier weather and those comfortable ocean trade winds.
The upstairs hale will sleep up to six and if you need additional sleeping for two more, or you would just like to have your own private space from the rest of the crowd, then you can rent the entire hale which includes the downstairs Pilialoha Studio.
The studio has its own first floor private entrance and is as cute as a button with its own private kitchen, bath, and eating area. The studio can be rented either with the man house or separately.
The huge upstairs master bedroom suite, with queen bed, has it's own private lanai. Keep those lanai doors open and let the ocean sounds lull you to sleep. Downstairs, there are two more bedrooms. You'll have a queen in the 2nd bedroom, two twins in the third bedroom. The two downstairs bedrooms share a full bath.
FOR LARGER GROUPS or FOR SMALL-KINE STAY... Also available for additional guests will be the cute-as-a-button, light and airy Pilialoha Studio. It is located on the first floor of Hale Pilialoha and it features a full kitchen, full bath, queen bed and front garden lanai. Booked for two, the rate is $75 per night or $475 per week. All this, and only a short walk to the Big Blue Pacific Ocean and the best snorkeling the East Side of Hawaii has to offer! When booked with Hale Pilialoha (the main house), the rate will be $175 per night for 4 or $1095 per week and $3495 per month.

This is our 3rd trip to Hawaii (Oahu twice), 1st trip to the Big Island. AWESOME PLACE! We had a great time. If this is your first visit, then do the "Free Things to Do" pamphlet that the property managers provided, great advice! I personally got some great images of the volcano and experienced a 4.2 earthquake at 4:00 a.m. at the Volcano Park. While shooting, the ground shook for a couple of seconds! WOW! :) What an experience! We'll be back! If you care to see images of the island, visit my blog, rongergelyphotography.com/blog. Mahalo! (from our guest book)
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. Home was so comfy, equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We checked in at nigh, so thanks for leaving the light on. Walking into softly playing Hawaiian music, fruits and snacks was such a treat. This home was so clean. I am grateful for all the essentials in the kitchen, made cooking and cleaning a breeze. Home is located a short walking distance to the best snorkeling on the Island. Such a peaceful environment. We truly enjoyed our stay here!! thanks again!
We are family of 3 and rented the house for a couple of weeks. The house is very well equipped, we didn't want for anything. I was working remotely part of the time and the internet and wireless connections were strong enough for me to attend video conferences while people were streaming. There are screens in all the windows and doors which allowed us to open everything and have the sea breeze blowing thru the house. The access to the tide pools is exquisite a short stroll. Everyday we snorkeled! Hilo is close enough for some "city" vibe, Pahoa is a lovely little town, Champagne pond, Poihiki, Uncle Roberts it was a wonderful vacation. If you like sandy beaches go to the kona side of the island!! If you don't mind the lava, jungle and lack of big hotels then the east side is for you. There were plenty of small children around but the lava is sharp! ours is 7 so was no problem.
We rented the entire place for our family of 8 and couldn't have been more pleased. Our GPS was off so we did have a bit of difficulty finding the place in the dark but once we got there we were delighted. The ambiance was relaxing, with soft Hawaiian music greeting us after a long day of travel, which was inviting and welcoming. The kitchens were well equipped. We brought our own snorkeling gear and took an easy 5-minute stroll to the tide pools, which has access just around the corner, through the trees to the pools. Be sure to wear water shoes in the tide pools. The fish are spectacular! We stayed in the pools for hours! The location was great, too. The home is situated where it is easy to view historic lava flows, and now with the current flow so close to Pahoa it's even better! You can also take the "red road" along the coast, which is also spectacular, but a word of caution: if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to be prepared with medication. The road is wind-y and has a lot of "roller-coaster" hills. A few in our group got a little queasy. It was definitely worth seeing, nonetheless. There is lots to see and do in close proximity and we did everything we could in the few days we were there. We wish we could have stayed an extra week!
The studio apt is in a nice neighbourhood and the apt is open and well lit. The kitchen area is very adequate. The bathroom is a good size. All in all a comfortable place to stay. Close to Pahoa for groceries etc. of course close to the tidal pools. A good place for 1 -2 people.
Our family loved the ocean view from the upstairs lanai, though the passage to that came through a bedroom. And the location for snorkeling the tidepools is tremendous. The house is generally well-equipped, though there was no colander in the kitchen or working remote control for the dvd player. It's a good choice for a group, though a little more attention to small details would help.
Mahalo nui for a wonderful stay here at Hale Pilialoha. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here and being able to have our ohana over with us was definitely a plus. The house was beautiful. (the website doesn’t do it justice!) and we would totally stay here again in an instant. Mahalo nui, The Keaukaha ohana
