Robin and Patti’s Home on Lovely Flathead Lake.
Right on the water, what more can you ask!
Our sailing and ocean background has heavily influenced the design and construction of our 3061 square foot home. It has a very coastal and nautical feel with painted open beam ceilings, painted tongue and groove wood plank walls, and Brazilian cherry wood floors. Almost every room has a gorgeous view of the lake and the home is decorated with our mementos from around the world. The kitchen has custom knotty pine cabinets plus granite countertops and a lovely viewing area that is perfect for your first cup of coffee. The master suite and elegant travertine tiled bathroom are on the main floor next to a smaller bedroom and bath perfect for children. The living room has a hand crafted tile gas fireplace. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a striking bathroom with a large soaking tub and tiled shower. There is a very spacious family room where you can play games or watch a movie. The fifth bed room is on the third floor, aptly named, “The Crow's Nest”, where the view is spectacular. The deck has two levels, one for barbequing and outside dining, the other for lounging and soaking in the hot tub. We have a nice dock for your boat and two stable kayaks to tour the lake.
Our home was designed and built by us, Robin and Patti Graham, home builders and author of the books “Dove” and “Home is the Sailor”. We are now offering our home as a weekly rental while we do some more traveling and enjoy our grandkids.
After a 5 year epic voyage of sailing a small boat around the world and writing the books “Dove” and “The Boy Who Sailed Around The World Alone”, Patti and I left the west coast of California forty two years ago to ride the wave of the “Back to the Land Movement” in Montana. We bought a quarter section of mountain top for $95 dollars an acre, built our log home, grew our own food and raised the gamut of farm critters. We also wrote about our struggles of growing in the Christian faith and our experiences of trying to live simply in “Home is the Sailor”. After 32 years we were missing the water so in 2003 we bought an older cabin on Flathead Lake. After spending our first night there we never spent another at the ranch and have never once looked back. We had come home. Two years later we built and moved into our dream home next door to our lovely historic cabin. After we had a couple of wonderful family “VRBO” vacations in Mexico we decided to list our lake cabin as a VRBO rental. It was a great experience. But as time goes on the wanderlust was creeping back and we wanted to do some more traveling. We sold our lake cabin, built nearby a wonderful 3750 sq. ft. “VRBO” yearly rental, 'Bella Vista', on the hillside overlooking Somers Bay and now are offering our personal home, 'A Delightful Sailor's Home', as a VRBO summer rental, as we come and go.
We hope you will enjoy the Flathead Valley as much as we do.
Robin and Patti Graham purchased this house in 2003
Our home in Somers is nestled on the north shore of beautiful Flathead Lake and Blacktail Mountain. Flathead Lake is 28 miles long and up to 15 miles wide. The lake’s sparkling waters and miles of tree-lined shore offer unlimited recreational opportunities and wildlife habitat. Overlooking it all are the magnificent Swan and Mission mountain ranges. A 5 minute drive will also get you to Tamarack Brewing Company. The “rack” is the best spot to relax with great food and handcrafted ales. Located 8 miles south of Kalispell, our community is the destination spot for locals as well as tourists. All four seasons in Somers offers something for everyone, from skiing the slopes of Blacktail Mountain (only 30 minutes away with spectacular scenery) to sailing and boating majestic Flathead Lake. We are 30 minutes from Glacier Park International Airport and 45 minutes from the majestic Glacier National park and Whitefish Mountain resort. Whether you are looking to relax or to play we have it all. Stay inside and catch a movie in our comfy home or take a soak in the hot tub overlooking the lake. In the winter and spring go ski, snowboard, snowshoe, cross country ski or snowmobile. In the summer enjoy water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, kayaking, swimming or fish right from our private dock. Just a quick 10 minute drive away you will also find Eagle Bend Golf Club that has 27 holes of exquisite golf. One of the best courses in the Northwest, Eagle Bend has held #1 in Montana Six consecutive years. Other areas of interest include the Bigfork Playhouse, Glacier Symphony and Chorale, Hockaday Museum of Art, the Conrad Mansion, and the Central School Museum.
Can't say enough about how great the house and location is. Definitely not your typical VRBO house, house is so thoughtfully designed in every way!! We had three little kids and we especially enjoyed all of the water toys, tubes, noodles and life jackets. Loved the fire pit and hot tub too. The living room upstairs was a fantastic place for kids to have some downtime, and there were special closets filled with kids toys that provides a ton of entertainment.
Wonderful home. This was the best vacation that we've experienced. Fun for the kids, boat dock at our disposal, beautiful view and home. Thanks for letting us enjoy your home.
This is one perfect house. It is immaculately clean. The beds were amazing. The kitchen was stocked with everything you'd need to cook, including spices, oils, etc. Tons of games. Water views everywhere.
Flathead Lake is also incredible. Super clear. It was like we had the lake to ourselves. We rented a boat and docked it at the house so we could fish and go tubing. Had more success tubing than fishing but Patti gave us some fresh trout that was the freshest fish I've ever tasted!
Montana is so beautiful and Glacier National Park was only 30 minutes away. Don't miss the Bigfork Playhouse Summer Stock if you're in town.
I have my finger's crossed we'll be back again next year.
This is the fourth year we have stayed at this location on Flathead Lake. Each year we enjoy it more than the year before. We have stayed at other properties on the lake and keep coming back here because of the location, the amazing home and all that goes with it. This is a special home in a great location that provides access to everything the area has to offer, by car or boat.
This year our children and grandchildren were able to go with us again. The way the bedrooms and bathrooms are located and set up in the house, there is plenty of room for everyone and separation for the kids at bedtime if you need that. There is also a huge playroom/TV room on the second level, with lots of fun toys for the kids to play with. And the third floor "Crow's Nest" is an amazing bedroom and provides a view that is truly exceptional.
The deck, yard, BBQ, swimming area, dock, hot tub, kayaks and water toys will provide everything you need to enjoy a beautiful summer day outside on the lake. I can't think of anything Robin and Patti have overlooked.
We stayed at this beautiful Sailor's Home for two summers. My sisters and their husbands enjoyed this home so much we decided to come back again. The first week this summer we invited our children and their families. They didn't want to leave! The second week was again with my sisters. This spacious home is so very comfortable. This home is so unique, well kept, and very clean. It exceeded all our expectations! Everything you could want is here including two kayaks. The weather was fabulous and the fireworks spectacular on the 4th. Robin and Patti are very helpful and easily available. We look forward to returning.
We've rented many properties from VRBO but this is our favorite by far. Patti and Robin's piece of paradise was just what we were looking for in a 50th birthday destination. The pictures and descriptions were spot on.
It was the most complete kitchen I've used in a rental property. The house was very, very CLEAN and easy to keep clean during our week stay. We were a group of 7 adults and two teenage children and had plenty of room to socialize as a group or to sneak away to a quiet area for some time alone. The house is huge!
We mostly stayed on the deck and gazed open-mouthed at the view. Funniest moment- when two guys in our group were fishing off the dock and the local osprey dropped down 15 feet away and pulled out a fish much bigger than the ones they were catching!
We grilled, we baked, we built a fire in the pit and roasted marshmallows. We drove up to Glacier to explore both the southern entrance and east side, ("Going-to-the-Sun road was still closed due to snow). We went bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, white water rafting (Class V!!!) and had massages at the house. We charted a boat for half day of fishing but no luck. It was still beautiful to be out on the water. The owners were more than helpful in all their recommendations.
The water was a bit chilly because it was still June but a soak in the hot tub after a swim was divine.
If you go, and surely you must...read Robin's books and watch the movie about Patti and him. They will inspire you to continue to explore, laugh and love. We'll be back!
