About The Ridgecrest Luxury Vacation Chalet

Hello! Thanks for looking at the Ridgecrest Chalet, my pride and joy! After leaving my 8 year career as a mechanical engineer in the medical products industry in the spring of 2011, I took on the monumental task of renovating this house in the hopes of creating Flagstaff's best vacation home. Over the course of several months I (with plenty of help!) completely remodeled this classic chalet, creating an entirely new kitchen, opening up the floorplan, and adding windows and skylights to let in the beautiful Flagstaff outdoors. Constructing the Ridgecrest Chalet was a hard but rewarding project, and now that I'm able to share it with so many people it keeps getting better. I absolutely love being able to help my guests have the perfect vacation. I can't think of a better job to have!

When I'm not booking stays or meeting my guests as they arrive, I spend as much of my time as I can outdoors! I grew up on the coast of Maine where I learned to appreciate nature's beauty, and nowhere is better than Flagstaff to experience it. I love to mountain bike, hike, camp, and most of all ski/snowboard! There isn't a season I don't love here in Flagstaff, and I always look forward to the change in weather as that means that I get to change activities along with it!

The Ridgecrest Luxury Vacation Chalet purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Ridgecrest Luxury Vacation Chalet chose Arizona

Flagstaff is a wonderful town with so many things to see and do, it is a natural playground for any outdoor enthusiast. There is also so much history here, with all of the Rt 66 attractions, and ancient native american sites. I think Flagstaff has the best scenery, friendliest atmosphere, and healthiest lifestyle of anyplace I've lived...what more could you ask for?

What makes this cabin unique

I absolutely love staying at the Ridgecrest Chalet for so many reasons. I love the peace and quiet it offers, and think there is nothing better than sitting on the couch with a fire burning in the fireplace watching the snow come down outside.

I love being so close to everything, yet having the serenity that the chalet offers. It is wonderful spending an evening in Flagstaff's bustling downtown and within minutes coming home to complete peace and quiet.

Waking up in the morning and riding my bike to the Campbell Mesa trail head without ever having to get in a car is my favorite way to start the day. The trails are beautiful, and there is so much wildlife to see. The views overlooking Walnut Canyon are incredible, with elk, deer, and birds along the way.

Great Stay in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 4 week trip around the USA. We stayed in this property for 3 nights to be near the Grand Canyon. The property is lovely and is set in the trees in a real quiet and safe neighbourhood. We all loved the hot tub out on the front deck and it was very welcoming after a long day trekking around the Grand Canyon & Antelope Canyon. The property is airy and spacious and is spotlessly clean and is perfect place to stay for a base for the surrounding attractions. Downtown Flagstaff and Sedona are also definitely worth a visit.

We didn’t meet John but he was contactable during our stay. We respect a non-intrusive host on our vacations. Damage deposit was returned in full swiftly.

Thank you for a great stay John

Beautiful home located in a very nice neighborhood that's secluded but still close to town.

  • 5 of 5

The home is beautiful and looks just like the pictures. Everything we needed we had and the home is very well taken care of. The only complaint I had was the dishes were pretty dirty in the cupboards, so we washed everything before using them. Overall, we had an amazing stay, and would definitely come back again!

Summer getaway

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house to visit our oldest son who stayed in Flagstaff for the summer and goes to NAU. The house was in a really nice community and had great amenities for our family. We enjoyed the hot tub and being able to make meals at home. I would recommend the property for those visiting Flagstaff.

Great rental cabin in Flagstaff

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this house for a week in June and loved it. The hot tub was awesome---best one I've ever seen in a rental house. The house was very comfortable. I felt the kitchen lacked some of the basic kitchen gadgets....cheese grater, and top to the coffee grinder was missing, but nothing major was an issue. The bbq was completely full of grease and nearly started a grease fire when we used it one night. Housekeeping or management should check on this during peak season as it could have been a bad situation. The washer had tons of mold in it, too. For a rental house, it was right on target and we really enjoyed ourselves.

We did lots of day trips in the area.....Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest and Painted desert, Meteor Crater, Winslow, Sedona (loved it!!)--did the pink jeep tour there, and went to Sliding Rock state park (really awesome!).

Had a great stay but room for improvement

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at this home. The house and furniture are nice, especially the kitchen. The location is just about perfect with a quiet street. We enjoyed the hot tub as well.

Potential improvements:

Unfortunately everything but the house and furniture could be replaced for $50 at the dollar store. The pots and pans are atrocious. Peeling off non-stick surfaces with food still attached. Sheets and towels about the cheapest one can buy. Bring your own knife if you actually want to cut something.

The listing should make it clear that there is NO A/C.

Access to the pool costs $15 per person per day. That was $60 for us to go swimming for a couple of hours. Not a small fee.

Overall, we felt like we paid a bit too much for what we got.

Fabulous Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to 3 deer welcoming us to our retreat. We were thrilled to find that everything we needed was explained in the email before our arrival and the home was all we had expected and more. Plenty of room for all of us-with extra space to spare. Dining room table was perfect for game playing-the kitchen was well equipped. We came over a holiday and were located perfectly to enjoy local festivities. We didn't have time to check out the neighborhood- will have to return!
