Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Sonya & Glen,

We have stayed in quite a few Berkshires rental cabins and this was by far the loveliest. Everything was absolutely perfect. The warmest welcome! The gift baskets were such a treat- the kids were thrilled with their glow sticks and snacks & we very much enjoyed the wine after a traffic-y drive from NYC. We played croquet, and BBQ'd, went apple and pumpkin picking, kayaked & canoed *Eric fell in fully clothed in late October attire :) , the kids took a 2 min dip, played with the toys & games...and we still had time to read by the fire & sun ourselves on the deck with cups of tea. And we roasted marshmallows on the campfire! We cannot wait to come here again- everything about the place is perfection & you truly go above & beyond in making it an easy, relaxing, thoroughly enjoyable place to vacation. Things like a little welcome note with all our names on it & mints on the pillows are just special touches one doesn't find everywhere. It was also especially nice of you to order up a FULL GOLDEN HARVEST MOON to rise over the lake on our arrival! Many thanks!

Jenny, Eric, Hutch & Violet

OH! & we loved Ozzie's Steak & Eggs! We wanted to eat there 3 meals a day!

Ideal Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the cottage over Columbus Day weekend for our anniversary and could not have felt more welcome. We knew that Sonya provided a gift basket, but it was well beyond expectations and even came with a personal note.

It was the perfect spot if you're looking for a nice, relaxing getaway. The back deck is very spacious and has a nice view of the lake and was a great way to spend a few afternoon hours. The only regret we had was the rainy weather, so we couldn't enjoy the beach and kayaks like we were hoping for, but the cottage itself was so cozy with the pellet stove, that it didn't ruin our time whatsoever.

It's a short drive to Berkshire Mountain East, so we went zip lining and rode the mountain coaster and spent the next day at the Norman Rockwell museum.

I would highly recommend Sonya's cottage. We will certainly be back!

Relaxing, comfy, and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a comfortable, clean, peaceful place to get away, where we'd have easy access to outdoor activities as well as restaurants, cafes and shopping. The cottage gave us everything we were looking for. We really enjoyed kayaking around the lake and just sitting out on the deck with a cool drink, watching the hummingbirds and taking in the beauty of the surroundings.

A Dream Vacation at the Lake in the Center of the Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

Before planning our summer vacation, we sat down to dream up the perfect place to stay. It had to be in the center of the Berkshires so it would be possible to hit many of the tourist sites around Lenox and Pittsfield. It had to be on a lake, with kayaks or canoes. And it had to be cozy and comfortable for our family of four. This little lake cottage was that dream come true. It's in the country, but still within easy driving distance to all the places we wanted to visit, including the Norman Rockwell Museum (which the kids liked a lot), Melville's house at Arrowhead, and Emily Dickinson's house in Amherst (which is exactly an hour east along Rt. 143). And Ashmere Lake was all we imagined, so quiet and peaceful for most of the day. The cabin comes complete with two kayaks and a canoe, perfect for four people to tour the entire lake in a little flotilla or to take off on their own or in pairs -- often with the whole lake to yourself. It is a very short walk down to the lake, where we not only enjoyed a little sun and swimming but got to observe the mating habits of the Pumpkinseed sunfish right along the shore, where they set up stone-covered beds and the male guards and fans the eggs until they become whole schools of little ones feeding in the sunny shallows (all of which happened within the mid-June week that we stayed). The little beach was perfect and we had it all to ourselves for most of our stay, though it was a pleasure to meet some of the neighbors there, all of whom were very helpful and fun to talk to. The weather was perfect, with only one late-night rainstorm (with some wonderful thunder and lightning) and great sun and low humidity during the day. We slept wonderfully in the quiet and cool nights. There were lots of fun games for us to play together, and we also brought our own so that every night was family game night or movie night (we brought along several DVDs). The cozy cabin really brings the family together, either indoors or in the backyard for a bonfire, which is set up perfectly, surrounded by rocks and chairs and picnic table for eating smores. We ate in most days, as the kitchen is set up perfectly and we made one big shopping trip to Pittsfield for groceries (about a 25 minutes drive) so we had food for the whole week. Sonya has thought of everything, from the lovely welcome gift baskets to the many blankets hidden around the place for cool nights. They even have a basketball hoop! We will be back.

Brilliant and Wonderful, with an Excellent on top

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolutely, positively, without a doubt...perfect. The cottage had pretty much everything you could need, including disney/pixar cute wildlife running/flying around the property. Everything is clean and completely prepared for you. Kitchen was fully stocked, including a welcome gift basket that was personalized for you. One of the best parts of the cottage are the deck and yard, perfectly laid out with a spectacular view of the lake literally steps away. Canoe and kayaks were available for us...including an entire shed filled with activities to keep us entertained. We opted for the canoe and relaxed on the majestic lake. We just can't compliment the cottage enough, but really...the best part was Sonya and how kind, professional, understanding, and helpful she was from the moment we inquired about the cottage to the moment we left. We will definitely be coming back and renting from from her again.
