Kealakekua bay is located on the Kona Coast, 12 miles South of Kailua-Kona. An historical location, well known for the death of Captain James Cook, the European who made first contact with Native Hawaiians in 1778. Kealakekua Bay (which means 'Pathway to the Gods') is also one of Hawaii's most spectacular coral reefs. This is a Marine Life Conservation District where fish are plentiful and swarm over the well developed reef formations that slope steeply from the shore into the nearby deep water. Spinner dolphins and green sea turtles are commonly seen resting in the bay.

I am an artist. I own and operate the Blue Ginger Gallery located in Kainaliu, Kona. I came to live on the Big Island 28 years ago. I have lived at this Manini Beach location for 23 years. I love the ocean.
I enjoy snorkeling and paddle boarding in the Bay when ever possible!~
Jill Ami Meyers purchased this house in 1990
This old Hawaiian village is very special.
There is lots of history yet to be told here! The relaxed lifestyle and neighborly feeling never changes. Mostly, I love the pristine ocean here, it is like nowhere else on earth, combined with tropical smells and the quiet in this quaint neighborhood of Napo`opo`o.
I really enjoy jumping into the clean magical water at Manini Beach. There is cold, underground, mountain water which enters the ocean at Manini Beach. This creates brackish water which is supposed to be healing. I always appreciate swimming with the beautiful reef fish and the sea turtles, the visibility is beyond compare. Also, the beach access road is wonderful for biking or jogging. Walk to Manini Point for a sunset and watch whales breach in the winter months. Dolphins play all year round.
Swimming with the Spinner dolphins is a breathtaking experience for anyone to enjoy, young and old alike!
Our Honeymoon was truly in paradise. The home was perfect... A showering of warm smells of fruit and flowers filled us as we entered the driveway. Perfectly clean soft cotton sheets invited us to sleep off our flights... On awakening we walked out to our host's beautiful garden and were greeted by the host. A map of the island, suggestions of best restaurants, and things to do and were provided by the gracious host, Jill Ami. Later dressed, we followed Jill Ami down to the beautiful Manini bay. I loved our time, the beauty of the island and the home. Must plan to return soon. Thank you, Jill Ami for everything
Truly a remarkable place to stay..all the comforts of home, and all the beauty of Hawaii..We found everything we
needed, and found the host Jill to be so nice..she had fresh fruit and flowers there when we arrived, and told us to please let her know, if there was anything she could do, to make our stay more enjoyable. Juat a short walk to the
breathtaking Manini Bay, where you can hop on a paddle board, snorkel and swim in the bay, go surfing, or just
have a picnic in a tropical pardise. This rental is truly paradise found. I will definitely be returning again and again
Back in January 2015, we reserved #380054 for a week at Christmastime 2015-6. Unfortunately, due to a family illness that was diagnosed in November 2015, we had to cancel. We were not entitled to any refund unless a new renter could be found, and even then we were only entitled to an 85% refund. The owner went out of her way to list the property again, and eventually (almost at the last minute) secured a new renter! And then she refunded 100% of the rental fee. We feel that we were treated very well, and we greatly appreciate it. BTW, we passed the property on several occasions, and it is even nicer than the photos!
The exotic location the sunsets are once in a lifetime.
Jill's Mermaid Hideaway home is absolutely perfect. It is nestled into a large property filled with flowers and exotic fruit trees. The gardens are impeccable. The house is clean, quiet, safe and well equipped with everything you could imagine from board games to a rice steamer and coffee grinder, swimming gear, picnic baskets there is a full outdoor cooking and eating area as well. Perfect for single travelers or families. The home is bright and colorful. This was my second stay here and I hope to return year after year. The hosts live next door and are very welcoming and attentive to any questions you may have.
Enjoy your stay.
We spent four glorious weeks in Jill's darling, cute, well appointed cottage that had everything we wanted. One exception was the minimal Satellite TV options. We would have preferred a full cable set up/programming. Not a huge deal. The bedrooms were lovely. There were small AC units in there to cool them before sleeping. The yard was full of a huge variety of wonderful Hawaiian fruit. It was so much fun picking our fruit from the trees as needed. There is a lovely outdoor shower that was a pleasure for both washing off sand and cooling down. Jill and James were fun and accommodating. We are swimmers and spent most days in one of the two glorious bays nearby. We swam with the Spinner dolphin many times. Each time felt like a blessing. Truly amazing! In short we loved every minute and are hard at work figuring out how to return in 2015. You will not be disappointed, but you will be spoiled. Stay at your own risk! :)
My family recently relocated to Hawaii from NC. We rented this house from James and Jill to stay in until we found a permanent place to live. This place was perfect! Secluded in a nice neighborhood that was very quiet. The yard and lanai provided plenty of space for our 2 year old to run around and play. We enjoyed all our meals on the lanai with the beautiful surroundings of fruit tress, and flowers. The house was spacious with 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The home was well stocked with everything we needed. The kitchen was especially well equipped! There is a local beach park within walking distance. Also this is close to great snorkeling and kayaking in The bay. You are also just a few minutes to the City of Refuge National Park.
There was a washer and dryer which was a necessity for us too. James and Jill were so accommodating for us! They helped us with recommendations on where to eat, shop, and explore. Also they are just super nice! James bought a toy airplane for our son to play with.
This would be a great place to vacation and we highly recommend it!!!
Swim, snorkel in the underwater protected sanctuary of Kealakekua Bay, enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, hiking, jumping off rocks into the ocean, beachcombing, biking, plein air painting and my refreshing outdoor beach shower to cool off after your adventure!
