The cabin is situated on a horse farm. The cabin is over 200 years old but totally restored and updated. It has all the modern conveniences and comforts of a new home and all the rustic charm of a historic log cabin.
We do offer stabling packages for those seeking to bring their horses (availability may be limited please inquire early).
The area is great for exploring, shopping, dinning, museums, or driving through the countryside.
The cabin is the perfect get- away from what ever you need a break from in life. Your privacy is assured.
Lovely 200-year old cabin on the outside; cute, well-stocked, and immaculate on the inside. Cabin is on the end of a dead-end road, so if your dog is well-behaved, you can ask the owners to allow her off the leash and then watch her romp around in the grass, greet horses, jump in the little creek, and chase fireflies until you pass out from witnessing her joy. Owners are lovely people on the inside and out who will show you their horse barn and share stories of training race horses (fascinating) but also give plenty of reassurance and privacy. All you need to bring is food, which I suggest you buy on the way there from the Amish stalls at the Oxford Farm Market 10 miles away (I highly recommend the meats, especially the homemade scrapple). For breakfast or lunch, hit up the unbelievably charming White Horse Luncheonette, but take as many back roads as humanly possible so you can admire all the country side and Amish farms. For dinner, drive around until you find some Amish selling BBQ and whoopie pies out of their driveway. Remember that EVERYTHING here is closed on Sunday, so that's a good day for a road trip to check out the bald eagles and feat of engineering that is the Conowingo Dam.
Seriously, folks, if you want grass, and sky, and quiet, and space, stuff your under-exercised dog and your over-stressed sweetheart into the car, drive an hour out of the filthy city, and fall in love with living at this seemingly magical place.
This is our third time renting this cabin -so what else needs to be said! We obviously love it & recommend it without hesitation. And we will be back! Thanks to Wendy & Travis and our favorite little pals Phoebe & Newman for making our stay such a pleasant experience every time ! Chrissy; Art & Ruby, the lab.
What a great time my husband and I had at the Kirkwood Cabin. The property is very pastoral and relaxing and a very short drive to many beautiful hiking trails. We are already thinking about our trip back!
Loved our stay. Relaxed, slept better then ever here, so peaceful and quiet.
Wendy and Trevor were perfect hosts, being there when needed but not overly obtrusive!
Highly recommend if you're looking to get away from it all, but still be close enough to all the fun Lancaster and other areas have to offer.
My husband and I loved looking out at the horses in the pastures. We wanted a place to stay with our two dogs and go to the Conowingo Dam to see the bald eagles. The cabin was nicer than the pictures can show. It was very clean and we slept well in the comfortable bed. Wendy and Travis could not have been nicer and they tried to anticipate our every need. The dam was less than 20 miles away and we got some great pictures of eagles. We are looking forward to staying at the cabin again without our dogs to visit some Lancaster County attractions and do some antiquing.
