Description of Property: Traditional Ocean Isle Beach Vacation Cottage

Before there were beach McMansions, there were beach cottages. Originally built in the early 70's three rows back, this cottage is one hurricane from ocean front and two from becoming Young's Reef (thanks in part to inlet dredging)! Now available with free Wi-Fi.

Enjoy spectacular million dollar ocean, inlet, and island views from the front deck. Clear views of Holden Beach and Oak Island across Shallotte Inlet, too. How close to the ocean? You can toss a football into the surf from the front yard at high tide. Island's End (a.k.a. Almost Oceanfront) is a well kept, older beach cottage. Only rented five seasons!

This house is called 'Almost Oceanfront' because there is a street in front, then dune/sandbags, then beach. While not oceanfront, the house enjoys all the unobstructed views of a oceanfront home. From time to time lunar high tides, high winds and storms will send ocean water into the street. Not harmful, just a spectacle. For beach dwellers, it is just part of living at the beach.

Pets and Smoking: We are absolutely convinced that your pet is clean, well behaved, perfectly adorable and exceptional in every way possible. However, guests that are specifically looking for smoke and pet free accommodations expect and deserve what we advertise, 100% of the time, without exceptions. This is a smoke and pet free rental. Sorry, we don't make exceptions for any reason.

Need another place the same week for your friends? We can help you make the arrangements. We have a 1BR 1 BA Channel Harbor Condo (sleeps 6) on the west end with a pool.

About this Cottage:

If you are looking for modern and/or the bustle of Myrtle Beach, this is not it. This cottage is the 5th house from the east end of the island on a dead-end street. Not much traffic. Great for walking, running, biking, fishing, sunning, relaxing and the like. Beach access is a very short walk out the back door , down 3 houses to the 4th Street crossing.

The Intra Coastal Waterway and new fishing pier is just a few blocks away. Great place to fish, launch a kayak, swim, crab, shell and watch boats and barges. A great new nature/walking trail with long wood bridges along the Intra Coastal Waterway has just been built. Our kids love it, yours will too!

To Rent Our Beach House/Deposit:

Be sure that the house is available. Check the calendar. We welcome your Saturday to Saturday weekly or monthly rental. You may reserve your dates with a $450.00 non-refundable rental deposit, applied to your weekly rental, using a V/MC/AMX/Discover card by phone or online! With your rental deposit, we will: 1) reserve your vacation dates and remove availability from our web sites, 2) execute and email a Vacation Rental Agreement/Terms for your signature.

About two weeks prior to your arrival, (provided that we have received your signed Agreement and full payment), we will forward 1) A door code number, 2) driving directions, 3) list of things to bring, 4) recommendations for fun things to see and do. It's that simple!

Summer 2017

Cancellations/ Refunds-Before February 1, 2017- If your reservation must be cancelled, for any reason, all money paid will be forfeited unless the house is re-rented for the entire cancelled period and for the full rental amount. If re-rented, monies will be refunded less the reservation rental deposit. No Refunds After February 1, 2017. No refunds for mandatory evacuations. In case of mandatory evacuations, we may (totally at our discretion) offer you a reduced rent or alternate date(s). You may also purchase vacation rental insurance from a 3rd party.

About Michael S. Young

When we bought this house in 1999, we never planned to rent it. We spent too much time enjoying it ourselves. Now that the kids are grown and college tuition is due, we are not only happy to share our beach house...but motivated renters. We hope that you enjoy our piece of paradise as much as we do. OIB is a wonderful place for families of lasting memories. Islands End is a great holiday retreat. Hope to see you this summer at OIB.

Michael S. Young purchased this house in 1999

Why Michael S. Young chose Coastal North Carolina

Traveling from Michigan, for as long as I can remember, our family spent two weeks at either Sunset Beach or Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Now grown and married with kids, we have since moved to N Carolina. As we searched for a beach house, we visited nearly every beach and island from the Virginia Beach line to Brunswick GA and beyond. So I find it ironic that our family has gravitated back to Ocean Isle Beach, NC. OIB It is a magical place that makes for a great family vacation. Close enough to the chaos of Myrtle Beach without having to live with it, OIB has all of the beach amenities. Great boating, fishing, biking, walking, sunning, shopping, swimming...the works. Islands End benefits from the quiet of being on both dead end street and being close to everything. The views are great. The house is nice enough to be comfortable but not too nice as to have to worry about the kids destroying anything. Its the perfect low maintenance, low stress holiday.

What makes this house unique

We have never worried about turning the kids loose on the east end of OIB. Beach access is close by. The Atlantic Intra Coastal Waterway is a short walk down the street as is a new fishing pier. Wide streets for biking. The million dollar unobstructed view of the ocean, inlet and Holden Beach from the front deck is fantastic. The ground floor fridge, gas grill and gas steam pot makes cooking for a crowd a cinch. The outdoor showers keeps the beach out of the house. The big freaking flat screen TV and Road Runner Wi-Fi and Satellite TV makes movies a snap. What more do you need?

Guestbook comments from the owner

If there were anytime to visit the Atlantic, fall is it! The water is warm, the air is crisp and the beach is uncrowned. We had a ball. The views from the front deck of this house were second to none. The house was so easy to be comfortable in with family and friends. It felt like a second home. The walk to the beach was a breeze. Great biking and running. Great cooking and eating accommodations. Fresh local seafood was easy to cook in the giant steam pot and outdoor grill. If we come back to North Carolina, we will come back. Islands End and it's owner gets 5 stars!

dissappointed

  • 3 of 5

The beach was amazing. The house was nice living area was small. A hugh coffee table everyone kept running in to. They need to upgrade coffee maker, grill and blender. The coffee maker basket comes open during brewing, making a hugh mess, I finally would prop the blender up against to keep it closed. The ignite switch to turn grill on doesn't work, some nice neighbors helped us get it lit. had to take bottom off use long lighter. This really upset me b/c almost everything we brought was to cook on this "NICE" grill. I text owner his reply, quote " you can always turn gas on and throw a match in". The people in the area that know owner couldn't believe that is what he responed.

The new fridge only made 12 cubes of Ice while we were there, I bought 6 ice trays and lots of bags of ice. I think we left the house cleaner than when we got there. As I picked up the shams for the bed which I just sit in the corner for the week, out came this hugh roach. It was the only one we saw, but it scared me.

I loved Ocean Isle, the beach was perfect for the children, everyone was so friendly, Going back next year, just different house. The view in the picture is also taken from the side. there's a house directly in front of you, a little misleading. Still beautiful and breeze was amazing. really enjoyed front porch and sun deck.

Outside shower could use some work also.

Very nice washer and dryer. Not much water pressure in Master bath, not sure in other bathroom. Again the area is beautiful.

Owner's Response: At your urging, we have replaced the coffee maker and blender. They get a work out at the beach. Thanks for letting me know. I don't recall suggesting throwing a match at the grill to light it but it really does seems like something I would suggest. We have set up an aux ice machine in the downstairs fridge. Ice is always at a premium. Had you texted me, I probably would have suggested you to go buy a bag of ice. Low flow water shower heads are for environmental and cost savings. I appreciate your voicing your concerns.

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

We would definitely come back again. Although more space than was needed for our family of five, Islands End was perfect for our beach getaway.

We enjoyed sitting on the deck for breakfast and lunch every day with its great view of the ocean. The rooms were all comfortable and the living space was a great place to get together for cards, board games and watching movies.

We also took full advantage of the gas grill for dinners, the beverage fridge and all of the beach equipment provided.

We were a little concerned about the beach access originally, but it really took no time at all to set up shop every morning. But if you are looking for a peaceful spot, there were only 5 to 10 families at the end of the beach every day. And we enjoyed the short walk over to the intercoastal side.

Owner's Response: Great reviews are music to our ears. Thanks so much! Too much space? Next time bring friends. We are well stocked and have all the beachy amenities you need for the perfect long weekend or week at the beach with family and friends (without having to haul your stuff from home). And no matter what time of year you visit, our end of island location ensures easy beach access and an uncrowded beach. We will welcome you back. Thanks again and safe travels. MSY.

Sweetest!

  • 4 of 5

We're on our 5th day of 7 and loving it. Sitting on the porch now with family enjoying the sound of the surf and wind. House is great. Well equipped. Plan on a low county boil with the supplied stock pot. Local shrimp and corn. Yum! Will soon be ocean-front as the house currently on the beach in front is unoccupied and looks to be coming down soon, just one big storm. No regrets. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Surprisingly, the house across the street has water, sewer, electric and is habitable. The stilts have been extended and go practically to China. My money is on the house staying put. If she can hold on until November of 2017, a 700 foot groin (like a jetty but not) and sand project will bring back the beach on the East End. It is in the permiting phase now. Glad you and your family are availing yourself of all of our homes beachy amenities. That is what they are there for so enjoy and make yourself at home. PS: look around the house for: The History of OIB, Inlets of NC (50 years of satellite photos), Shells of the Carolina Coast and other neat books on the area. Great history and coastal exploring. Safe travels. MSY

We love staying here!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer at this cottage. We love how quiet the east end of the island is, and the great view from the porch. The house is really well-stocked, and has plenty of space for our family of 5 and friends who come down while we are there. The carport and storage closet make storing our beach stuff really convenient, and my kids like to scooter around the carport when we aren't at the beach. Michael has been super responsive anytime we've had a question, but we have never had a major issue. It's a quick walk to Ferry Landing park, which is a great place to watch the sunrise and sunset and to fish.

Next year we will book two weeks. This place is great!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this rental was as described. We had no surprises except pleasant ones. The owners had their bases covered with everything a vacationer would need for a stress free rental from start to end. We paid in three payments over four months on line (very helpful). The hospitality phone app put accessing the driving directions, door code number, list of things to bring (or not to forget), Wi-Fi code, arrival/departure instructions...right at our fingertips. Very helpful and handy. The views! The views from the front deck were spectacular. We spent hours on the porch rockers watching the boats and dolphins go by. We found a good supply of fishing poles, beach toys, beach chairs, an umbrella and all the other beach accessories in the ground floor storage room. The storage room even had a spare fridge, Webber gas grill and giant gas steamer. Making a low country boil with local shrimp outside was fun and easy. We appreciated the full size washer and dryer as we didn't pack much for the week. Sign me up for June 2016. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Every year we compile our guests reviews/suggestions in order to know where to invest in future improvements and amenities. We welcome your comments, thanks for your review. Our satisfied guests are our best sales force. We can pencil you in for June of 2016. Returning guests that renew at checkout will get their 2016 stay at this summers rate! A pretty nice savings indeed. No need to worry about booking so soon and having your plans change. You can change dates (no harm/foul) until the end of March of 2016. FYI: Next year we anticipate an additional 700 feet of sand (beach) in front of the house. The Town Of Ocean Isle Beach is building a Groin on the east end. A Groin is like a Jetty except it does not go past the natural shoreline and allows for sand to pass in front of it and the ocean to roll over it. It will make the beach experience even better as well as the views. We look forward to seeing you again next summer. Safe travels.
