Cape May House Rental Photos and Description

3 BR, 2.5 baths (sleeps 8) + sofa bed(s)

The Wisteria House on Franklin Street, Cape May

This 1840s home-one of the oldest in Cape May-was once a guest house rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, seashore guests still sit on the front porch and watch the carriages go by-but they also lounge by the fireplace in the comfy living room or gather round the big Amish plank dining table.

The Wisteria House is in the heart of Cape May's historic distirct. This three bedroom house can sleep eight- so there is always plenty of room, just like in the old days.

The house features three large bedrooms and two and a half baths. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, private bath and access to a second floor screened in porch. The other two bedrooms feature queen sized beds. One bedroom also contains a day bed with trundle under it. This bed can lifted to be the same height as the day bed or remain on floot as a pull out.

Downstairs, the living room features a fireplace and French doors. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker and small appliances. Everything else is there in order to make wonderful meals. The large dining area has a screened in porch at either end.

The entire house is beautifully furnished with a mixture of antiques and family friendly pieces. You will feel comfortable and cared for when you stay at The Wisteria House.

All the porches have wicker furniture. People just seem to gravitate to the front porch with the antique wicker. Everyone enjoys hearing the history of the house from the carriage drivers as the horses go clippity clop and the tourists take pictures.

Visitors to the town sometimes stop and look at the professionally landscaped garden area filled with nandinas, ferns, hostas, impatiens and crepe myrtles. They are always asking about the Johnson geraniums.

The house is completely fenced in and offers a small outdoor table and chairs for enjoying the back yard. You can listen for the church bells ringing every hour and sometimes hear a hymm being played on a Sunday morning.

Our home is a quick walk to the beach and mall. The grocery store is just around the corner. Fire station is right up the street and you can see the post office when standing on the front porch. Right around the corner is the famous Washington Inn restaurant and the Southern Mansion.

Once the car is unloaded and parked, you may never want to leave one of the porches but if you do desire to venture out the gate there is lots to do. You can walk to the mall, shops, restaurants and beach. The town offers house tours as well as ghost tours.Cape May has two theater areas as well as a soon to be convention center. It is a great family centered area with lots of enjoyment for all ages.

About Owner/Manager

We love to come to Cape May every weekend from our home in PA . We have four grandchildren who live about 50 minutes from Cape May and we try and see them everytime we are in New Jersey.

We enjoy taking long walks on the beach to look for sea glass and also riding our bikes around town..

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2003

Why Owner/Manager chose Cape May

We fell in love with Cape May the first time we visited it with friends. I never tire of looking at the Victorian homes on tree lined streets. It is definitely not like other beach towns but rather beautiful and unique.

Quaint and stunning home!

  • 5 of 5

This home captured the essence of Cape May beautifully. Not only is it a beautiful sight to see with its wonderful Victorian architecture, but the property is kept in tip top shape with a lovely garden in the back and the interior is spot-less, comforting, and intimate. I agree with another renter's review that the home has a very pleasant vibe about it, making a family feel right at home upon arrival. I want to add that it was so nice to sit on the front porch and watch the carriages go by and to have such a lovely stroll in the morning or any time of day to the stores, beaches, and past some of the beautiful homes (which are not too far away). Overall, our family had a wonderful stay and enjoyed our time in the Wisteria House!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a lovely review. We strive for families to enjoy and make memories during their stay. Our porch has been in Cape May Magazine several times. It received two pages after it had snowed in Cape May. We love hearing the horses clopping by while we hear history of the house and wave to the passengers. We appreciate the kindnesses of the family that stayed here and wrote this review. I hope they can come back again to stay.

Beautiful home ! Perfect Location !!!

  • 5 of 5

Our entire family enjoyed our week here. House was beautiful inside & out. We all loved sitting on the front porch watching the horse drawn carriages go by. Everything was clean & ready for us upon our arrival. The owners were great to work with from beginning to end. If I had any questions they responded asap to my inquires. When our beautiful week came to its end we all agreed that we would definitely like to return for another stay at The Wisteria House!!!

Spacious house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house to stay in, where you can enjoy the beach and also sightsee all of Cape May. It was very clean and tidy. The kitchen had all the amenities you need. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching all the walkers, bike riders, and carriage riders go by. It was interesting to watch the mailman get ready for their day of deliveries! Short walk or bike ride to the beach, restaurants, and shopping. Highly recommend.

A charming victorian house with lovely decor, beautiful gardens, and a front porch with spectacular views. This was our third year with our family, and looking forward to having our fourth annual vacation together at the Wisteria House next year. Great location within walking distance to the beach, shopping, and dining. We fell in love with everything about this house. Super clean!

Wonderful Vibe!

  • 5 of 5

This place has a truly wonderful vibe. My family immediately relaxed and found ourselves creatively inspired the entire week we spent here. The back yard is such a wonderful bonus and the rooms are bright and airy. There are two living room areas, perfect if someone wants to watch TV while another person wants to relax, play games, etc. Just perfect! Super clean !

Wonderful experience in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Having traveled to 63 countries and all 50 states on business and pleasure, I have stayed at everything from multi room presidential palaces, to nightly rentals over a noisy off road pub. I have also stayed at several other locations on the Jersey Shore, so when I say my family’s stay at Wisteria House in Cape May was a pure delight, and a highlight week of great relaxation, you can assure yourself I know a good thing when I find it. I am already planning the return visit!

Dealing with the rental was seamless. While I did not meet the Benekam’s personally, the emails and paperwork to complete the rental were easy and timely. Upon arriving at Wisteria House, there were no surprises, and the on line photo’s accurately depict this beautiful property. A book the owner’s had prepared was laid out on the main counter with all the information a renter may need.

The home was clean and fresh for the new renter, and the lawn and gardens showed great care. The home itself is a well located beautiful Victorian style, kept in its near original period look due to the hard work the owners put in to make it both modern, (internet modem, cable tv, etc.), but also warm and cozy in keeping with the Victorian style of Cape May. I felt right at home in Wisteria House.

Wisteria House is walking distance to everything one may need on a stay. The beach is easy to walk to and we did so daily for a few hours. The beaches are well kept, and dolphin could often be seen just offshore. Lifeguards were always present keeping an eye on tides, weather and children! Chairs are provided as part of your rental at Wisteria House.

The town shops and restaurants were a few blocks walk, and we enjoyed the shops almost nightly. A food market and shopping for anything we may have wanted, or needed, was close walking distance and not overpriced.

In summary, Wisteria House is a “top choice” for a NJ shore vacation. Clean, well wept and prepared by the Benekam’s. An enjoyable Victorian atmosphere, just a few blocks from beaches and shops, all serve to make Wisteria House a “must stay location”.
