|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Waterfront luxury beach house with spectacular 180-degree views of Seattle, Mt. Rainier, Cascades, and the Seattle skyline from all living areas (including from bed in master bedroom). Private hot tub. Located at Skiff Point on the eastern shore of Bainbridge Island, the Rising Moon Beach House is just a 35-minute ferry ride from Seattle, and only minutes by car from the ferry landing.
This vacation rental is the top two floors of a house perched on a coastal bluff overlooking Puget Sound. Spectacular in any season, its crown jewel is the master suite, with panoramic views of the mountains and Seattle from the queen bed and also from the deep soaking tub in a tiled, slate-floored bathroom.
Night and day, wildlife abounds along our coastal bluff. Many bird species are regularly seen, including bald eagles, osprey, blue herons, loons, swallows and songbirds. We have a year-round population of iridescent-throated hummingbirds that probably will visit you on the deck (you also can see them lying in bed in the master bedroom). We have seen (and heard) Orca whales from the yard, as well as pilot whales, sea lions, seals, and otters.
The master suite on the top floor consists of a large bedroom with a sitting area and loveseat, and a raised bed nook with a queen bed surrounded on the south and east by 7-foot long windows that afford a panoramic view of Puget Sound, the Seattle skyline and Mt. Rainier. A furnished deck off the master bedroom provides the same view, and is a delightful spot for your morning coffee. The second bedroom, also on the top floor with a queen bed, pampers your senses with its designer colors and views of the City, Puget Sound, and Mt. Rainier.
The living room features a gas fireplace, huge bay window, and cushioned window seat looking out to the water and professionally landscaped yard. The living room sofa opens into a premium-quality queen sofa bed. Patio doors lead from the dining area to a large private deck for bar-b-ques. Or if you prefer to be even closer to the water, next to the bluff is a bluestone fire circle where you can build a campfire. Nothing is more relaxing than sitting next to a crackling fire, listening to the rhythm of the waves on the beach--unless it's soaking in the hot tub, which is accessed by a bluestone path around the side of the house, or lying in bed and watching the moon make a silver path across Puget Sound.
The ever-changing view from your windows and yard will include every variety of maritime traffic that plies the Puget Sound shipping lanes, from cargo ships heading into Elliott Bay, to tankers, cruise ships, tug boats, Coast Guard cutters, and even aircraft carriers.
It's an easy walk from the house to the historic Rolling Bay Cafe for your morning coffee, or the Island Music Center for an evening of jazz or bluegrass. Live theatre and musical performances are also offered at Bainbridge Performing Arts in Winslow, a 10-minute drive from the house.
Bainbridge Island has an abundance of excellent restaurants, seven artisan wineries and tasting rooms, two state parks, and the award-winning Bloedel Reserve with 150 acres of spectacular gardens, ponds, and trails. In season, you can bring your fishing gear and waders and try your luck in front of the house (access to the beach is just half a block down the street), or you can rent a kayak in Winslow and explore Bainbridge from the water. Most likely, though, you will want to spend most of your time enjoying the Beach House, where the stresses of the world melt away.
Your hosts live on site and are available if you need directions, suggestions for sightseeing, or any other assistance.

We purchased this house in 2000 for its extraordinary location and views, and extensively remodeled it from 2009-2011 specifically for an upscale, high-quality vacation rental. Owners, when they are at the property, living in a ground floor apartment with their own entrance. Renters have private entrance and the exclusive use of second and third floor living areas, including both decks and hot tub.
The rental is on Skiff Point in the Rolling Bay area of Bainbridge, with 200-degree views to the east, north and south from virtually all living areas (one guest wrote in a review about "the most spectacular view on the planet--from the bed!") The house is an easy 3-mile drive from the ferry terminal and from downtown Winslow, and is in one of the most popular walking neighborhoods on Bainbridge. Walk to the Rolling Bay neighborhood center for coffee, an Italian deli, a convenience store, and the incomparable "Bay Hay and Feed" store with plants, gifts, clothing and more.
We stayed at Rising Moon Beach House for a month in 2014. But that was not enough, so we returned for a month in 2015, and then for two months in 2016. And we could return again and again. The beautiful location, comfortable amenities and gracious hosts make this our best vacation rental ever.
The view from the two decks and every window of the house could entertain us for hours. A bald eagle that lived in the neighborhood came by several times each day. While there is a great new TV in the living room, we almost never turned it on; the views of Puget Sound, Seattle, the Cascades and Mount Rainier were much more interesting. At night, we saw a full moon rising over Seattle and a meteor shower.
When we could tear ourselves away from the house, we took walks to nearby Rolling Bay and Manitou Beach. The garden at Rolling Bay Café is a great place to relax and enjoy a coffee or cold drink. Rolling Bay’s Italian café, Via Rosa, has now expanded to a full service pasta and pizza restaurant and it is excellent. A short drive (or a more ambitious walk) took us to Winslow for a first-rate grocery store, more restaurant options, and Mora Ice Cream, which was worth the trip in itself. Day trips in the car included Port Townsend, with a gorgeous beach and terrific farmers market, and Olympic National Park (the hikes at Hurricane Ridge are breathtaking). And we enjoyed visiting friends and family and experiencing Seattle and the beautiful half-hour ferry ride that takes us there.
Al and Kathy are great hosts. They respect your privacy, but they are fun and interesting to talk to when you get a chance. Each year they have added new things to make the house better and better. This year there was a new TV, new washing machine and dryer, a coffee table and great new lounging chairs on the deck (reclining in the lounge chairs is perfect for star gazing).
Enjoying all these experiences takes time. I strongly recommend that you visit Rising Moon for as long as you can. You’ll want to experience what Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas have to offer, and also have time to relax and enjoy the house. Stay at least a week, longer if you possibly can. You’ll be glad you did.
We had a wonderful week at Rising Moon Beach House in mid-June. The house and property are in immaculate condition and the hosts were very helpful with our pre-trip planning. It's a very easy commute on the ferry to Seattle. It's also a relatively short drive up to Port Townsend and the Olympic National Park for day trips. We made four day hikes along the beach in Port Townsend and in the park, including summiting Mount Townsend, and we were back at the beach house every day relaxing by late afternoon.
Close to town and a breathe taking view. We ate dinner outside, hot tub , coffee on the deck in the morning with a bald eagle sighting. We played dominos while stopping to take amazing photos of Mt. Rainer and the Seattle skyline with sailboats in the ocean. Sister from California, Wenatchee, Pasco and Issaquah we all fell in Love with this house. The owners were kind and very thoughtful of our privacy.
we really enjoyed our week @ this nicely furnished, quiet home on the water on bainbridge island. the views of seattle were amazing. i highly recommend this property.
The Rising Moon beach house is everything you could ask for, including….the spectacular moon itself, viewed in all it’s glory rising over Seattle from the most perfect vantage point ever….your bed!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long getaway here from the oppressive Florida summer, the house itself was perfect, well-stocked, super clean, hot tub at the ready after a day of exploring (even on a dreary day, Bainbridge has much to offer, charming historical museum, exquisite Museum of Art, great restaurants, Mora ice cream!) No hotel or B&B can compare to the comfort of staying at a home as relaxing and comfortable as your own (altho with a much better view!) and we enjoyed some lazy afternoons on the deck just watching the world, the ships, and the hummingbirds go by….time well spent IMO…Owners Katherine and Al made us feel very welcome, which was most appreciated. One of the top VRBO experiences we’ve had, and hope to return next year.
Stunning, quiet property that was extremely thoughtfully organized for guests. Very clean and beautiful on quiet residential street which only added to peaceful atmosphere. Katherine was very accommodating, and we would love to return.
Close to Bloedel Reserve, with 150 acres of spectacular gardens, woodlands, and Japanese tea garden, also close to two waterfront state parks. Walk to the Island Music Guild for evenings of jazz or bluegrass, and to the historic Rolling Bay Coffee Shop. Bainbridge Island has seven artisan wineries with tasting rooms, and numerous fine restaurants, as well as live theatre and music.
