My husband and I have our own graphic design firm in the SF bay area. We have three children ranging in age from 16 to 10.
Wendy McKinley purchased this house in 2004
The house has been in the family for years. We have been visiting several times a year since.
This is our place to get away from it all but its not so remote that there is nothing to do. We can be at great mexican food on the river in a few minutes.
My family and my brother in laws family stayed at this property during the winter
break 2016, right after Christmas and before New Years. It is an absolutely lovely house,
wonderful property for daily walks by the river and cute little town. The owner, Wendy
was above and beyond top notch with supplying a beautiful home stocked with pretty
much anything and everything a family with children could want or need and her attention
to her guests was phenomenal. Her response to any question was answered positively
within the day (I dare say within hours). When we venture to Oregon again (which we will
as that is where my bro in law lives) we WILL ABSOLUTELY rent this again. In my mind
there is NO need to look into any other rental. Kathy Kindorf
The house is secluded, but not so secluded that you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. The house is open and has a good layout. We had all the beds occupied and all were comfortable except the on back bedroom queen bed was rock hard. The house was fully stocked with all the cook ware and utensils! This is something that doesn't happen often when using vacation rentals, for us anyway. Overall the house was great and more than enough room for 8.
Pros: Secluded, riverfront, spacious, close to town, private drive, plenty of games and entertainment for the winter stay!
Cons: One uncomfortable bed, and the spaces under the bed and furniture were fairly dirty (that's more on the cleaner than the owner).
This is a lovely home in a private setting. We loved cooking everyday in the extremely well stocked kitchen. The house is large enough to spread out and relax. The wii with games and extended movie collection made for nightly entertainment. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the river wasn't good enough to swim in. The water was too swift for kids or adults. I recommend this rental very much otherwise!
Have never been in a house that was better stocked with many "extras" for guests to use. Nice setting with deer all around you every day. Property very clean and well-maintained. Although it IS riverfront, you're not butt up against it. Owner was immediately accessible when we had problems with directions and a bad gate code. She was very friendly and had a great "give me a call for anything" attitude!
Just a few negatives. The directions to the house are a bit confusing. I would NEVER attempt trying to get there for the first time in the dark. Gravel road is quite rough and narrow. Master bed definitely needs to be replaced and need to have a TV remote in the master bedroom. There's obviously rust in the water pipes as there's an after taste to the water and telltale visual signs around water fixtures. We had to buy and bring in water for drinking. Although it's waterfront, there's no real fishing opportunities from or around the property (we had hoped to do some easy-access fishing).
In Shady Cove, The Fishing Hole can take care of any water opportunities (fishing, floating, etc.) you'd like to try. We definitely enjoyed floating down the Rogue River. An easy drive to get to Crater Lake which is a must see!
This is our 3rd year staying here and always such a pleasure. Beautiful house and surroundings and fully stocked. Love this place and will be back next year. Also, whenever we have had a question/concern Wendy gets back to you immediately, highly recommend. Oh and one more thing, found the horseshoes in the back and had a blast playing.
