Bear Den South is owned by Paul and Liz Johnson from Cincinnati, OH. We love our Tennessee home and neighbors. We are both business owners in Cincinnati and love to get away. We love to spend time with our large family, ride our motorcycles, boating and travel.
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
Once you see the great view of Cherokee Lake you will fall in love with the lake and house like we did. We chose this location due to the beautiful views and easy access to miles of uncrowded water. It is a great location for short trip to the Great Smokey Mountains, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and Knoxville. A two hour trip to Ashville, N.C. and the Biltmore Estates all places we like to go either with the family or on the motorcycles. If you like to ride motorcycles there are several scenic routes from the house to the Great Smokey and Cherokee Mountains.
Our family loves to boat, jet ski, kayak and swim in the clear water. We love the ability to float in the relaxation station or play in the water. There is also year round fishing on Cherokee Lake. If you are a marathon walker or runner, we have hills to walk and all of the neighbor hoods are linked by streets. There is also access to the state wide bike scenic route.
Had a great time fishing, kayaking, and relaxing! The house is beautiful and the lake is amazing!
Thanks for a great time.
Our family had a wonderful time on this vacation. House was big, nice and had anything you needed available to you. We would absolutely come back here and highly recommend for a family looking for a great time with each other.
Had a blast again... Thanks and we will see you again next year...
We were all very pleased with our stay at Bear Den South. The pictures do not do it justice as they can't show how spacious the home is. There were nine people in our party and we had plenty of room. We had great views of the Smokey mountains and beautiful Cherokee Lake. The kitchen is well equipped and I had fun using the variety of dishes. There were also supplies on hand which was very nice. Little things mean a lot like plenty of trash bags, toilet paper, towels, blankets, pillows, cooking items, lots of movies to watch, and kitchen essentials (salt, pepper, baking powder, etc.) All the beds were very comfortable. Also, the kids had plenty of rafts to play on, plus life jackets galore which they used all week. The water is deep and clean and not weedy. We rented a pontoon boat for a day from Cardinal Cove which was close to the house and convenient. Other side trips were a day in Gatlinburg and an afternoon at Panther Creek State Park (welcome center is closed on Wednesday). We also found a vegetable stand nearby with some good Grainger tomatoes. It was just a wonderful time for our family and at the end I had a big hug from my youngest grandchild who said "thanks for bringing me to Tennessee and also for our great home!" I can say anyone who stays here will not be disappointed.
This was the perfect home and location for our family getaway. It was a private setting with trees all around the property. The kids loved roasting marshmallows over the firepit in the evenings. The property is located in a calm cove while still providing a panoramic view of Cherokee Lake. The property had everything you needed and more than enough space for everyone. We had guests coming in from different states and the property owners were extremely accommodating when we were working to pin down everyone's arrival dates! Thank you for a wonderful family vacation. We will definitely be back!
Five adults, five children (including 2 under 2 years old) all crowded into one place can be very stress inducing- but not at this lake house. The master bedroom was huge and the living room downstairs (complete with mini frig and oven; game systems; TV) was a great place for the older kiddos to get away from the adults. The upstairs dining/living room was comfortable with room for everyone to read, watch TV, or just talk. All the bedrooms were nicely appointed and comfortable with three of them having an awesome lake view. And the 3 bathrooms prevented us from having any "I need to go and someone's in there!" issues.
The location is great for those people who want to fish, swim (though it was too cold while we were there), or boat. In addition, we were within a reasonable driving distance of both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
You know it was a great location and vacation when, as we were taking everything outside, family members were already planning the trip for "next time". We definitely will be coming back.
I had one of the best weekends of my life at Bear Den South!!
And I would agree with some of the other reviews that the pictures don't do justice for the property. This house has such a warm, welcoming feeling that we all felt right at home immediately! The owners were very accommodating and kind. The house itself had everything you could possibly think of for cooking, reading, watching movies (DVD player) and scrapbooking!! My girlfriends and I had a 'Mother/Daughter Scrapbook Weekend' at the lake house and the only thing I would have changed was to reserve this home for an entire week rather than just two nights. This house is perfect for family reunions, family vacations, couples 'get aways', men/women's retreats, scrapbook/craft weekends because of the amount of bedrooms, bunk beds and couches that are available. The owner even has craft tables available, complete with individual lamps, trashcans and supplies needed for scrapbooking. I was very impressed with the forethought that Liz (co-owner with Paul) put into making this a special weekend for her guests that love to scrapbook!
But this property is also a 'find' for fishermen and anyone who likes to be on the water or enjoy the outdoors. While we were there, our group went on a morning walk through the neighborhood, which was so nice because not only the scenery is pretty, but we also got a nice workout with all of the rolling hills! Some of the ladies who didn't scrapbook, enjoyed sitting out on the deck, reading a book. I would highly recommend this home to families, friends, church groups, couples, scrapbookers, fishermen, etc..!! : )
Cherokee Lake Dam has a great park and swimming beach (pebbles) about 15 min. away. Gilmore dock is around to the next large cove for fuel and fishing supplies. Boat rental is available on the lake.
