Vintage Spanish revival pool house steps to downtown and beach:
Once a B&B, the historic Banana Inn is now a welcoming vacation rental house. 4 bed, 3 bath, 1920s two story Spanish revival house features period details, wood floors, Mexican tile, arched windows and cocquina fireplace plus modern conveniences like two zone central air, HD satellite TV (premium channels) and wifi. Relax on the back patio around the private Mediterranean style inground heated pool, or chill out on the deck under the retractable awning. Two blocks to arty Lake Worth downtown with galleries, theater, bars, restaurants and vintage stores. Four blocks to intracoastal, boat launch and seafront public golf course. Walk over the bridge to the beach and fishing pier, farmers market (in season) and beachfront dining. Easy 15 minute drive to Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach and equestrian events at Wellington. Large, fully fenced yard. Well behaved dogs welcome. No smoking.
YOU WILL ENJOY THIS HOUSE IF: You like vintage styles and shabby chic; watch "Rehab Addict" on HGTV; want to walk to downtown and the beach and have an urban pedestrian lifestyle; want plenty of outside space and a private pool.
YOU WILL NOT ENJOY THIS HOUSE: If you want a quiet suburban lifestyle further from town, or a gated community feel; you want everything match-matchy; you'd rather have a new condo over a 1920s cottage-style house.
Originally from London, I now live in New Jersey and work in Manhattan, so the Banana Inn is a wonderful escape from the winter chill — although I love cooling off in the pool in the summer months too.
Carole Sovocool purchased this house in 2012
It's officially in the tropics! I also love the classic architecture of the area and of this house which, being on a double lot, also offers much more outside space than most houses in the area. Why come to Florida just to have a balcony to sit on? Just 15 minutes walk/5 minutes drive to a wonderful beach with shops and dining - plus you can also walk to a lively downtown, so no designated driver necessary. It's 15 minutes/$30 cab fare from West Palm airport, so you don't even need to rent a car. If you do, you are an easy drive to some great beaches including the wonderful dog beach at Jupiter. Or, you may want to just enjoy the pool and backyard with palm trees with a homemade frozen concoction - a perfect tropical vacation.
The house dates from the 1920s, although a building has been on the site since 1900, making it one of the oldest in the area. It sports all the classic Mediterranean architecture, with arches, a coquina fireplace and tiles. The house has a welcoming vibe to it - once you have been in there a while, you will feel right at home, perhaps because it also has enough room for everyone to have their own space. My favorite part is the outside areas - the deck to gather and dine on, and the pool and patio for sun and fun.
Our stay at this house was not what we are used to when we rent through VRBO. We are used to much nicer accommodations. There was nothing nice about this house. There was no toilet paper, hand soap or shampoo in the house when we arrived. We had to call the caretaker to bring some to us. None of the four of us who stayed could recommend this house to anyone. Pat Miller and friends.
Had a great time. Enjoyed the property. Some things could use updating...but it's a great beach house!!!
We have stayed at Banana Inn 3 or 4 times now and love it!
Our kids love the pool and the quick walk to the ice cream shop in downtown Lake Worth. We love the comfortable, spacious house with kitchen so that we can really settle in and feel at home for the week. As the kids have gotten older, we sometimes venture to the beach on foot- lovely!
The owner and local manager responded quickly to questions. We were in good hands. We would absolutely recommend this property.
We hope to keep coming back, it's a perfect family vacation spot!
Overall, our experience with the Banana Inn was OK . The house was functional and close to many areas of interest. The house is somewhat small by comparison to what we are used to renting. all of the appliances, wireless internet, etc. worked fine. The only issue we had was there was no propane for the gas grille and we had to clean it. We could have called the property manager, but instead we just cleaned it and bought a propane refill, so no big deal I guess.
This place was great! We used it for a mini-family reunion -- 10 stayed here and 5 a my house a couple of blocks away. The house really fits in great with the area -- artsy, casual, comfortable, beachy and very cool. We all loved the pool!! Beautiful!!! The deck is covered and has very comfortable furniture and a nice gas grill. We spent lots of time there. The town is just 2 blocks away -- great restaurants and shops and live music most nights. The beach is beautiful. Everyone had a wonderful time! I definitely recommend this place.
