We fell in love with Martha's Vineyard, as it reminded us of England, where I grew up. It is a lovely family summer house, quiet, yet near Chilmark Center and beaches.
Surrounded by unspoiled land. Faces due South, so gets any sun that is shining. Decks on both sides of house.
"Comfortable & Private"
The first time I stayed at this Chilmark house was in 1986, and I've had numerous happy stays there ever since.
This spacious, comfortable dwelling offers ample accommodations for groups of friends or a couple of families. A well-stocked cheery kitchen suits cooks preparing everything from a quick snack to an elaborate dinner. The deck has hosted many lobster fests, summer birthday parties, and gin-and-tonic cocktail hours at sunset. This is a child-friendly, non-fussy, very comfortable house. The living room/dining room offers lots of seating for big groups and shared activities. Privacy is assured at this wonderfully secluded house. Rock walls and hydrangeas abound, and there is nothing sweeter than rinsing off in the outdoor shower after a hot afternoon at Lucy Vincent! Hiking paths are nearby, as are many tempting shops in Chilmark and Menemsha. When our kids were small they loved the playground near Allie's, with a farmer's market for the parents.
From my first contact with Jennifer, the owner, I knew our family has found a special rental. Our party of six needed to find a home to spend five days while on the island to attend a wedding. I had heard Chilmark has peaceful, scenic beauty --with wonderful beaches -- and the area didn't disappoint. (The neighboring farm even has sheep to add to the bucolic setting.) Jennifer greeted us upon arrival, navigated us through the permit process for the local private beaches, and made sure throughout our stay we had everything we needed while staying at the house. She couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. We certainly hope to return.
We rent in Chilmark every summer and this home is exactly what you would hope for in an MVY vacation. Very comfortable, "beachy" and private. The owner is extremely responsive. The location is perfect for any Chilmark activities.
Last summer was our fourth summer for us at this house and we plan to return this coming summer. We're two families and we know the Vineyard well and have rented other houses for years There is plenty of privacy here, high ceilings in a living room that opens out into a large sunny deck. Lucy Vincent Beach is a bike ride away and there are miles of hiking trails in Shepherds Meadow just across the street. This is in many ways a "classic" Vineyard house in the best sense of the word. It's away from the road and it's quiet except for the birds, not pretentious but cheerful and relaxing and the owner is helpful and gracious.
Had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at this Chilmark property. Our family of four enjoyed this well-maintained, spacious house, set on a quiet, private lane off of Middle Road. The fully-equipped kitchen was good for preparing meals; washer and dryer available; comfortable beds, ample storage space; games and puzzles for the kids. Lovely views from 2nd floor deck of surrounding woods. The hospitable owner made us feel at home. Near beautiful Lucy Vincent Beach, Menemsha harbor, fish markets and Chilmark grocery store. We're eager to return next summer!
All the rooms on the first floor(3 bedrooms) smelled musty. Windows needed to be opened for some time before being occupied. Small closets with curtains instead of doors. Unable to secure the house.Someone entered the house. while we were out, but nothing was taken.
This house worked extremely well for our family of four. It is tucked away off of Middle Road, so has a ton of privacy, and is on a very quiet part of the Island, with access to the best beach - Lucy Vincent (a few minutes away by car). The owner was very helpful and the house was well stocked with supplies, and we grilled in the back yard and ate on the upstairs deck every night, which was great. The open layout of the very sunny upstairs (combined living room, dining area, kitchen, plus access to deck) made this a very homey spot to come back to after a day out. The bedrooms are simple and adequate. We would definitely rent this house again, it stands up extremely well against others in its price range.
No smokers, please.
