Eclectic 18th century charm with all the modern comforts and then some! We booked the Gamekeeper’s Cottage for a week in early September, 2017. The setting for this property is a lush country estate rich in history with a stunning courtyard (where all the action takes place).

The Gamekeeper’s Cottage situated next to the main house is AMAZING. It’s a very colorful and modern living space with a rich history that’s perfectly furnished, great beds and spacious rooms. It has a well-stocked kitchen and you even have your very own wood burning stove.

Carole and Kevin are extraordinary hosts. Super knowledgeable about the history of Ireland, history of the surrounding villages, places to see, activities to do, castles to see, pubs to frequent and places to eat – so very helpful. We really enjoyed our time with you Kevin and Carole and hope to be back some day.

Beautiful Very Irish with abundance of personality

  • 5 of 5

We spent 6 wonderful days here drinking in the farm surroundings while listening to Kevin's stories and getting guidance from Carol on the best places to visit not on the tourist trap . The surrounding countryside is beautiful with lovely walks to ruins and the lake meeting local celebrities along the way. The Cottage was warmed with a log fire and eclectically decorated with antiques, souvenirs from Africa and colorful pillows and Cosy throws. We were greeted by two well behaved dogs and two donkeys. Woke to sounds of doves cooing and an occasional donkey . Dinner in the barn and open fire with port cheese and our hosts company made us feel at home.

We will be back for sure if they will have us. Thank you so much for sharing your home and lives with us

Authentic Irish Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. My daughter really enjoyed feeding the chickens and playing with the dogs. A lot of times she would ask when we were returning tothe cottage because she needed too see Walter and Sally (the dogs). We also enjoyed having a fire every morning and night. Carole and Kevin were very friendly and helpful. They were always available if you needed anything at the cottage or if you had any questions about the area. Kevin even helped my husband find a pharmacy to get medication for my daughter. The cottage is located in a beautiful Irish country setting. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Ireland.

A rustic out of the way cottage with an eclectic cast of characters and critters

  • 5 of 5

The set and cast was an Irish Shangri-la with American and African elements. It was easy to forget that you came from somewhere else and eventually had somewhere else to which you were expected to return. Within a reasonable drive to touristy places yet enough interest, sites, history and nature to keep you within just the local villages and the areas of the lake. Carol and Kevin and their local friends who sign on to help were kind, friendly and helpful. One could grow roots here if not careful.

Charming Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted by Carole and Kevin and invited in for tea while their cleaning lady was finishing up (we were early). They made us feel right at home and gave us a little history on the property. A little later that evening as I was fixing dinner, a donkey came looking in the window! There were two of them grazing in a little pasture area on the back side of the cottage - you could feed them right at the window (a donkey drive- thru)! That was not the end of the animal fun...They have two very sweet dogs (Walter and Sally), chickens, and two ducks. So much fun watching all the animal shenanigans! If you go be sure to ask Kevin the story of the donkey requisition.

The cottage was very comfortable, clean, and cozy - it had everything that you would need. We had a fire in the wood stove on the second night and fell asleep to the sound of...quiet!

Carole and Kevin were very gracious hosts and helpful with activity suggestions and places to go. Really enjoyed my chats with Kevin about his very interesting life - what fun!

Best little cottage in Ireland

  • 5 of 5

I cannot express in words how utterly charming this cottage is and how totally awesome Carole and Kevin Clarke are! I wanted to travel to Ireland and Scotland one day and this year was that day. I was nervous traveling with just me and my boys to a foreign, although very quaint and somewhat American like, country. I was so pleasantly surprised to be greeted with such hospitality! This is an adorable little cottage nestled in the heart of the countryside not very far from some very exciting castles and villages. All that I had planned to do was quickly changed when Carole and I talked about the heritage and true magic of Ireland. That can really only be found among the people who live there and the villages surrounding the attractions. The people are so friendly and hospitable. Kevin and my boys spent many a night during our stay sitting at the fire sharing stories and talks. I joined them at times and others I enjoyed Carole's company while she helped me to plan day trips to Holy Island, the Cliffs of Moher, Limerick and King John's Castle, as well as Bunratty Castle and Foulk Park. The Clarke's are genuinely willing to help you see all that you can throughout your stay. We enjoyed their two pups, Walter and Sally and also the chickens and ducks that are all around. My younger son enjoyed collecting eggs for Kevin and Carole each morning. I am very thankful that I chose this cottage and that I now have two wonderful friends in the Clarke's that I plan to visit again hopefully in the near future. If you are looking for a quaint, adorable, hospitable and genuine experience in Ireland, stay at the Gamekeepers Cottage with Carole and Kevin Clarke. See you all again soon! Miss you both and I'm looking forward to our next chat!!
