About Francesco e Olivia Bologna

The Bologna family moved in the area in 1780 after purchasing a large amount of territory in the south part of the Granduchy of Tuscany. Since then they have been living in the area, managing the farming estates.

In the centuries the large property has been divided within the different brothers in smaller farming estates. Tenuta Montefreddo is one of the farming estates and it is now managed by Francesco Bologna, who is proud to continue the work of his ancestors. he now lives in the estate with his wife Olivia and their children.

Francesco e Olivia Bologna purchased this villa in 1780

Why Francesco e Olivia Bologna chose Siena Area

Francesco and his family are deeply linked to this land that offers every day the magnificent exhibition of Nature. Here they have their roots and their memories and it was quite natural for them to choose to restore the estate farmsteads, offering the possibility to others to come and stay here, enjoying the beauty of the place.

What makes this villa unique

Tenuta Montefreddo is a secluded and exclusive location with marvellous hilltop view. The silence, the atmosphere, the breeze.... all will all contribute to relax your mind and spirit.

The proximity to most renowed Tuscany hilltop towns such as Montepulciano, Montalcino, Arezzo, Cortona and Orvieto, to mention a few, makes it a perfect location to combine leisure and culture. Siena, Florence and Rome are easy day trips by catching the train from the nearby station of Chiusi.

The house is elegantly furnished and each detail will contribute to make you feel at home.

Everybody at the estate will do his best to make your holiday unfortgetable and unique.

An experienced tour guide of the territory will welcome you and will help you to get acquainted with the area. For those seeking to visit the hil top towns of the area, knowing their history and learning about their monuments, she will provide the necessary information. She will also suggest the wineries for wine tastings, organize cooking classes, art and photography courses (also for children), or yoga classes with professionals.

Nico, the house keeper, will make sure everything is ready at the house for the arrival, looking after every detail, and preparing the welcome breakfast basket with the delicacies of the territory

During the week, she will come every day for housekeeping, delivering grocery shopping upon request.

A home chef is available upon request to cook during the week or just to prepare a dinner for a special occasion.

Last and certainly not least, at the villa you will find our extra-virgin olive oil produced exclusively with the olives grown in our farming estate and hand picked .

Hi Olivia,

I am sorry for the delay in this review. I have been busy this summer since we came home in early June. We heard about the earthquake & hope that your family was not affected. We are praying your entire family & friends are safe. We did not get specifics of the location, so we thought of you immediately when we heard it was NE of Rome.

I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking such good care of us while my family & I were there at Montefreddo. The reason for our trip was we brought my mom to her town where she spent the first 10 years of her life. It was an emotional & very happy trip to her little tiny town in Calabria.

We enjoyed our stay in Italy more than I can explain here. The beauty of your home was spectacular. We enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine taking in all the sites & nature. The house & guest house were perfect for our family. We loved the kitchen & dining room and spent time in there cooking & eating the wonderful food of your region. Thanks so much for shopping for us getting us started with our groceries & supplies. The dinner that was made for us the night we arrived was delicious. I have attempted to make the dish but it tastes nothing like yours!

We all loved the tour to Montepulciano & the tasting at Fenetti was wonderful. We had some rain but it did not dampen our spirits, as it was a glorious day to visit the mid evil town & learn all about it.

I can't thank you enough, Olivia. I know we asked a lot of questions and you were always so kind & patient with us. We all appreciated the wonderful hospitality you gave to us.

We will return there some day. I do not know when but I can assure you Tuscany will be a part of our future trip. We ran out of time (& energy) for Venice, so that is on the list for next time. This trip we concentrated on the south seeing the Amalfi Coast, Capri, my mom's town in Calabria, Rome, with only a week in Tuscany. Next time - more time in Tuscana! The rolling countryside & beautiful vineyards were a site for sore eyes!

I could go on & on but I should close. I want to tell you that the portion of our 17 day trip in Italy that we spent with you were the best! We loved every minute & would highly recommend your beautiful peaceful home to anyone who wanted to get the "real" Italian Tuscan feel. We felt like family & are immensely grateful.

We wish you & your beautiful family the best. We will see you again some day! Grazie Olivia!

Ciao - Jan Potter, Florida USA

Owner's Response: Dear Jan, I cannot beleive you took all this time to write a review for Montefreddo, you are amazing!! Thank you and thank you for your thoughts about the earthquake. It is all so sad, but it is amazing to see how the inhabitants of the area have already reacted strongly: they want to built the town soon and go back to live there. Tough mountain people, a great example! Thank you and I really hope you will come back soon, Olivia

The True Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Hi Olivia

We have just gotten back to Trinidad and life as we know it.

It's difficult to put into words how very much we appreciated all you did to make our Tuscany experience so truly authentic and genuinely unforgettable.

It was such a pleasure to meet you and your sweet family and such s honour to stay in your home.

We could not have asked for anything more lovely. Your home is beautiful and I hope to return there one day not too long from now.

I'm so very glad my parents were able to share this experience with us as I not sure how much longer they will be capable of making such long journeys and there were many special moments we shared together just taking in the views, cooking and eating at home, visiting the winery and castle in Umbria to name a few.

Thank you again for everything,

Soggiorno meraviglioso!

Paradiso in Terra! Heavan on Earth (Amazing!)

  • 5 of 5

Olivia and Francesco made it feel like we were staying with family! Words and pictures cannot describe this amazing property. This place is truly a paradise with so many incredible features it's impossible to describe.

The buildings on the property have been restored to perfection, but have retained their medieval charm. Everything stated in the description for Montefreddo Di Sopra is understated! It must be experienced to truly understand.

The view from the pool is something out of a story book and we were lucky enough to enjoy the bedroom that was formerly the watchtower for the republic of Siena to control the borderland with the State of the Pope. The sun rose each morning on this side of the main house and it was nothing less than spectacular to see!

I can't say enough about our host Olivia. On our first day she drove with us to the local butcher and grocery and helped us navigate the local town to ensure we were comfortable. We took a trip to Florence and she actually drove with us to the train station in Chiusi and helped us get on the train to Florence! She also provided a wonderful tour (she is a tour guide!) of the town of Montepulciano and arranged an amazing wine tasting as the cellars of Fanetti!

The castle of Fighine is on the property about 1 mile up from Montefreddo Di Sopra. When we asked if we could hike to it, Olivia arranged a guided tour with her sons and nephew! Shout out to Filippo, Leopoldo and Giovanni! That was one of the highlights of the trip!

Olivia also arranged house keeping by Nico and an in home Chef experience that is a must do by Doriana Ottaviani and her husband Claudio from ! If you use them, ask them to make the Pici! You won't regret it!

The highlight of our trip was the quiet time we had at Montefreddo Di Sopra. The Bologna family has established Heaven on Earth and we were extremely fortunate to have found it. We will return!

Grazie Olivia and Francesco! Ciao for now!

Heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

The photos don't capture the beauty of this picturesque setting. Villa Montefreddo sits at the end of a long country road and overlooks a valley in the Tuscan countryside. The stone villa with the accompanying apartment was the perfect size for our party of 10. It was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was large enough so that we all could pitch in with the cooking and there were plenty of couches and chairs inside and out to enjoy a glass of wine and a good book. The location was perfect for day trips to Orvieto, Assisi, Montepulciano, Siena and Chiusi. Olivia and Francesco were the perfect hosts. They provided us with tips of local favorites for dining and a Olivia was gracious enough to give us a historical tour of Montepulciano.

It was a perfect vacation and I would highly recommend this property.

a corner of Paradise on Earth!

I loved everything of my stay in this wonderful place! And I enjoyed every second of it. The Villa is beautifully fornitured, the view is really breathtaking. Everything was set with love and care. The place is also near to the beautiful art cities of Tuscany and Umbria (Siena, Florence, Perugia, Montepulciano, Orvieto). My friends and I also experienced a wonderful guided tour of Montepulciano with Olivia, the beautiful young lady running the Villa.

Our property is close to the enchanting medieval hamlet of San Casciano dei Bagni, in the province of Siena, in that unspoiled corner of Tuscany near Umbria and Lazio.

The area was well known by the Etruscans and the Romans for its warm water springs and the beauty of the landscape.

The medieval village is built around the neo-gothic Bologna castle, the XII century church of San Leonardo and Cassiano and its original bell tower. The narrow and winding streets of the village often opens in to beautiful sceneries, showing an enchanted landscape and views on the Cetona mountain and on the Amiata mountain (the sacred mountain of the Etruscans).

As in most Italians villages, the heart is the main square that has a beautiful view on the Rigo Valley. Although San Casciano is a small and quite place, it offers shops and services for almost every need.

Only 14 km from the property is the little town of Città della Pieve, with its magnificent Cathedral that treasures work from 'Il Perugino', the master of Raffaello. Here are also nice and elegant restaurant.

Piazze, only 4 km from the property, is a village built along the street that leads to San Casciano dei Bagni. Is where the daily shopping may be done at the small supermarket and butcher .

There is a gas station, an ATM machine and some good restaurants or pizzeria.
